NGOs & Non-Profit Orgs: a conversation with Dr Kamel Mohanna. Part 2. In Arabic.

NGOs & Non-Profit Orgs: a conversation with Dr Kamel Mohanna. Part 2. In Arabic.

Humanitarian work has evolved over the years from initially serving religious and political agendas, to non-profit non-governmental and civil society organizations, to large international institutions.

The proliferation of many organizations raises many questions prime among them: why? who can we trust? who is legitimate? And how and what works?

Helping us understand all of this is Dr Kamel Mohanna, a physician and a humanitarian who’s been a beacon in the field. Dr Mohanna is the General Coordinator of the Arab NGOs, and the Founding President of Amel Association International. Amel is one of the largest humanitarian organizations in the Middle East, nominated for the Nobel Peace Prize and serving countless needy individuals in Lebanon and abroad.

Arab Americans: Differences and Similarities. In Arabic.

Arab Americans: Differences and Similarities. In Arabic.

Arabs in America come in different flavors. There are those attached to their roots who live their lives as if still in the old country, and those who have melted and became fully assimilated in the American society. And many others are scattered across the spectrum, from segregated to totally accultured and integrated. This is not unique to our Arab-American community, migrant communities often evolve and develop many similar characteristics over the years, especially here in the US.
In this episode we share our “non-scientific” observations as we discuss what we have witnessed from our vintage point as the Arab American Café patrons.. 😉

S2-Ep9 The Power of The Breath - Transform Your Life One Breath At A Time, With Walid AboulNaga (Founder of Nafas)

S2-Ep9 The Power of The Breath - Transform Your Life One Breath At A Time, With Walid AboulNaga (Founder of Nafas)

Every single human on this planet has access to a powerful yet an often under-utilized tool that can transform their lives, and that’s the breath. We take our breath for granted since we are not educated enough about the ways we could use it to improve our lives.

Ancient traditions have used the breath as a tool for spiritual transformation for thousands of years. There is a variety of breath-centered meditations followed in Buddhism, Taoism, Sufism, Christianity, Shamanism, and martial arts. Breathing is, obviously, nothing new, but it has had a big revolution in the last 60 years.
Taking us on a journey of understanding the breath is Walid Aboulnaga. an Adventurer, Entrepreneur, and Transformational Facilitator who has left his stressful corporate world behind to embark on a journey of self awakening, training with masters of breathwork, to eventually start “Nafas”.
He created Nafas as a vehicle to awaken people to the power of their breath and their internal worlds. Nafas curates and creates transformational journeys combining spirituality and adventure for soul seekers and anyone seeking a disconnect from a busy lifestyle.

Today more than ever, knowledge around using our breath is important. We lead extremely busy lives addicted to our black screens; jumping from an email to another, a phone notification to a message to a zoom call…etc. We don't pause enough, we don’t breathe enough.

That’s why the conversation I had with my guest, Walid, is one that is extremely important as it cuts across business mindset and life. Without the right energy and mental clarity, you won't be able to show up to life the way you should and deserve.

Yes, you will experience hair loss, if not already now, wait few more years!

While this isn’t particularly an “Arab-American” issue, it is certainly a “universal” one. In this episode, we will approach the topic from a scientific medical perspective, identifying causes and reviewing available treatment options.

Kidney Disease, what you need to know made simple. Part 2. In Arabic.

Kidney Disease, what you need to know made simple. Part 2. In Arabic.

Chronic kidney disease (CKD) has been recognized as a leading public health problem worldwide. The global estimated prevalence of CKD is 13.4%, and in the US more than 1 in 7, that is 15% of US adults, are estimated to have CKD. Moreover, as many as 9 in 10 adults with CKD do not know they have the disease.

When people develop chronic kidney disease, their kidneys become damaged and over time may not clean the blood as well as healthy kidneys. If kidneys do not work well, toxic waste and extra fluid accumulate in the body and may lead to high blood pressure, heart disease, stroke, and early death.

In this 2-parts podcast, we will go over kidney disease and touch on dialysis and kidney transplantation.

S2-Ep8 Practicing Mindfulness Should Be A Daily Thing - (Why Should It Be Exclusive to A Religious Period?)

S2-Ep8 Practicing Mindfulness Should Be A Daily Thing - (Why Should It Be Exclusive to A Religious Period?)

Why does it have to stop at Ramadan, lent or any other religious period?...

During certain religious periods we tend to uphold certain mindful habits. We become more conscious of our intentions, actions and words. We take the time to contemplate more, and practice gratitude. However, as soon as these religious periods are over, we lose some of the self-discipline and consciousness in living.

This is my last Ramadan themed episode, and I decided to end it on a self reflection that sums up the month to me. I noticed there’s a lot of great qualities I practice during Ramadan but that tend to decline after the month is over, such as: being active with charity, practicing mindfulness, or even re-kindling social connections that tend to die out during the year…etc.

In recording this episode I am also promising myself to become more of the things I do or represent during Ramadan. Let me know if any of what I talk about resonates with you by leaving a comment on any of the podcast platforms, YouTube or my Instagram posts.
