    About this Episode

In my latest Podcast I'm taking you to the Christmas Markets in Munich getting into the festive spirit, with snow on the ground, German carol singers and the smell of gingerbread in the air. You'll hear about my visit to the Residenz Palace, the market we found in it's courtyards, the ethnic, alternative Tollwood Winter Festival and all the Bavarian food and drinking specialities we tried while we were there.

    In the podcast you'll hear about our weekend visit to Munich in December 2009 for the Christmas Markets;

    • How we easily got from the airport into the centre of Munich using public transport
    • The famous glockenspiel on the facade of the Neues Rathaus in Marienplatz which chimes every day at 11am and noon
    • Our visit to the Residenz Palace and the Treasury in the heart of Munich, home of the Kings and Electors of Bavaria
    • Trying the famous Kafee und Kuchen at a Conditorei near the Residenz
    • Eating the Bavarian speciality of spit roast pork knuckle and dumplings at the Haxnbauer restaurant
    • Christmas shopping at the Tollwood Winter Festival where we tried some ethnic food for lunch
    • Drinking a mulled wine with a difference called Feuerzangenbowle with a kick of rum and amareto
    • The Christmas market in the courtyard of the Residenz, with Christmas music, food and drink, gifts and a talking reindeer for the children
    • The view from the church tower of St Peter's overlooking Marienplatz in the biting cold.
    • Our hotel was Hotel Falkenturm which is a modest, pension style hotel and was very well located in the old town centre for sightseeing.
    • The introduction music was Venus as a Girl by Andy McKee on MusicAlley.com
    • All other music was recorded in Munich at the Christmas Markets

24 HOHT Texas Podcast Part 1

In Episode 24 I travel to Texas with my family in the spring. This episode is the first of my Texas podcasts covering Houston and San Antonio. You’ll hear all about the Houston space centre where we took the tram tour to see the giant spaceship workshop and learned about the NASA Space Programme. From Houston we drove down to San Antonio where we visited the Alamo, cycled along the river to see the Spanish Missions and took a nightime stroll along the buzzing River Walk. We also spent a very enjoyable day on Picosa Ranch which was was once the home of Texas Governor John Connally, and has now been turned into a luxury ranch where we enjoyed pretending we were cowboys for a day.

    Read the article at http://www.heatheronhertravels.com/girona-old-town-wimdu/

Girona is in the Costa Brava region of Spain and is a gem of a city that's often overlooked by people rushing to its larger sister, Barcelona. We stayed in an apartment booked through http://www.wimdu.com/ in the old town near the cathedral. Pretty pastel houses overlooking the river and the cathedral on the hill are the icons of Girona and it's the perfect place for a short break.

23 Women on the Road - Podcast interview with Leyla Giray

In Episode 23 in my travel podcast series I talk to travel blogger and journalist Leyla Giray about her experiences travelling solo all around the world and the book she’s recently written called Women on the Road. In the podcast we discuss the barriers that women in their 40 and 50s feel that prevent them from travelling solo and how they can overcome their fears. We talk about how to stay safe on the road, what to wear, the best places to stay and the destinations that work best for women travelling on their own. And as Leyla says, there’ll never be a better time to travel, so if you’ve been thinking about it, that time is now!
