    127:The Essence of Creating Deadlines

    127:The Essence of Creating Deadlines

Do you love deadlines? Let’s be honest. We don’t love them most of the time. We tend to feel like they are too much pressure on us, but I believe they are essential in our lives. They help us get things done. For instance, if you have a goal and book, it on a particular date, you will always do everything you can to ensure you hit the goal. Right? The date becomes your deadline, and more often than not, we meet the deadlines.

Not long ago, we moved to Truro. Before we moved, we had deadlines on everything we needed to do to both our houses. True to it, we managed to hit the deadlines.

That’s why people say that goals without deadlines are just dreams. Let’s master the art of giving life to our plans by assigning them deadlines. Chloe and I love travelling and going on holidays. To achieve that, we always set deadlines for everything we need to do personally or in our business.

I would love to hear from you. What deadlines have you set for yourself? I wouldn’t mind being your accountability partner. Feel free to send me a message, and I will be keen to keep you in check.

125: How to Save Time with Batching Tasks

125: How to Save Time with Batching Tasks

Did you know that batching can help you become more productive and help you save time? Batching up on repetitive tasks creates room for you to concentrate on other things peacefully. For instance, today has been a podcast day for me. I am recording all the episodes for September and handing them in for postproduction. Batching works like a charm for me because I will concentrate on other aspects of the business over the next three weeks and have some fun at the beach.

    How can you start batching?

To start batching, you need to have a pen and paper. List down all the repetitive tasks you have to handle in a week or a month. Next, look at the tasks you can comfortably work on in one sitting. For instance, if you are a podcaster, you can decide to dedicate one day to recording, editing, making your show notes, and scheduling your podcasts. What this does is that it allows your brain to be in the flow and get on autopilot.

If you've got any questions about batching, I'm glad to answer them. Feel free to send me an email at: pete@petecann.com

Which tasks do you think you can batch? Let me know in the comments.

    123:The Power of Setting Goals

    123:The Power of Setting Goals

Do goals come true? I believe deep inside me that goals do come true. I ticked a bunch of goals off my goals list. Not because I gave up on them, but because I achieved them. Dr. Doug Bennett wrote a fantastic book called Goals Do Come True. This book has been such an inspiration to me, and I highly recommend it. It is such an easy read that I’m sure you can benefit from it too.

I’ve been looking back at all my goals, and now they are achieved. I must say I’m amazed and more motivated to set even more. Here are some of the goals that I have achieved so far:

    • Ran a marathon
    • We moved to Cornwall. This was essential for our family because we wanted the children to go to Truro schools, which are 15 minutes away from where we live. Also, we wanted to have a chance to go to the sea at least four times a week. Last week I managed to be at the beach four times a week. Hooray! I achieved!
    • Laughing on stage with at least 2000 people. This is one goal that excites me the most. I did it!

Today I am here to motivate you to keep setting goals because goals come true. Today take a few minutes off your schedule and set your goals. Don’t forget to write them down because the more you write them down, the more they become a reality, and the more you want to work towards them.

Do you need help setting the goals? Please feel free to reach out to me.

    121:The Power of Saying No

    121:The Power of Saying No

How often do you say No to things, no matter how good they appear? As human beings, we tend to avoid saying “No,” yet it could save us from much pain later. When you say no, it gives you room to concentrate on other important things.

The other day, Scott, a plumber, was fixing a few things in our house. He was working on a Saturday and kept saying it wasn’t sitting well with him. The problem is that he takes a lot of jobs that make him work on Saturdays and keep him away from his son. Scott says yes to everything, and he ends up missing out on important things like family time.

I talked him into accepting that he can say no, which is okay. I have had to say no to a number of jobs because they do not sit well with my boundaries or vision. You can do the same too. Learn to say no to good things that will lead to you having time for great things. The thing is you have to find a good way of saying no.

For instance, if you amicably turn down a job because the pay is low, if the company is dedicated to having you take up the job, they will do everything in their power to ensure they get to a level where you can agree.

    Listen in to hear more.

    119:How to Stay Motivated

    How do you stay motivated?

I know there are days when motivation decides to escape through the window, yet there is a lot to be done. When such days come, you do not have to fret. I have some tips that will help you get back on track.

Set your goals: When you have a goal, it helps you remain motivated and focused. Nothing beats seeing yourself get closer to your goals.

Break down your goals: As humans, we tend to put off tasks that are too big. We feel like they're going to take a lot of time. The secret lies in breaking them down. There is an old saying, how do you eat an elephant? You eat it one bite at a time.

Ask for reviews: Nothing can get you all fired up than a good review from a customer. It gives you the confidence to keep moving. Don't shy away from asking for reviews.

Feel gratitude: Being grateful opens doors in our lives, and it keeps us going and looking forward to better days. Do you have a gratitude routine?

Key Talking Points of the Episode:

    [01:10] Goal setting

    [01:45] Break down your goals

[02:46] Ask your customers for reviews and feedback

    [04:08] Feel gratitude

    Standout Quotes from the Episode:

"The more grateful we are, the more we attract goodness to ourselves, which ultimately then keeps us motivated."

"If you've got a vision to aim for, you're going to be motivated to achieve that goal. There's nothing better than being able to tick off that to do list."
