10 (Weird) Signs You're an Entrepreneur [Business, mindset, entrepreneur, disruptors]

    en-GBOctober 14, 2018

    Podcast Summary

    • Embrace challenges with innovative solutionsThink beyond the ordinary, share experiences, build connections, and use unique traits to disrupt industries

Being a disruptive entrepreneur involves thinking beyond the ordinary, embracing challenges with innovative solutions, and having a passion for what you do. Entrepreneurs often feel overwhelmed but should not let that stop them from pushing boundaries and making a profit. Sharing experiences and building connections, like Rob Moore did with Jake Wood and Spencer Oliver, can also be beneficial for personal and professional growth. The Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast host, Rob Moore, encourages entrepreneurs to embrace their unique traits, including being introverted or extroverted, and use their talents to disrupt industries and make a difference.

    • Balancing overwhelm and focus in entrepreneurshipEntrepreneurs should balance their trait of seeing opportunities everywhere with the ability to focus on their core business, avoid getting overwhelmed, and stay true to their vision despite external pressures.

Entrepreneurs thrive on overwhelm and seeing opportunities everywhere, but it's important to balance these traits and avoid getting overwhelmed to the point of being unable to function. Trump's efficiency in managing a large number of calls is an example of productive use of overwhelm. Seeing opportunity in everything is a good trait, but it's essential to avoid trying to monetize every opportunity and maintain a focus on your core business. Lastly, entrepreneurs may feel alone and misunderstood due to their unique mindset and dedication to their ventures. These feelings can put a strain on relationships, but it's essential to stay true to your vision and not let external pressures derail your entrepreneurial journey.

    • The Lonely and Challenging Journey of EntrepreneurshipEntrepreneurship is a lonely journey filled with self-doubt and imposter syndrome, but having a community and mentors can provide support. Despite the challenges, the personal growth and ability to change one's life make it a worthwhile endeavor.

Entrepreneurship can be a lonely and challenging journey, filled with self-doubt, imposter syndrome, and the pressure to keep everyone happy while putting yourself last. It's important to remember that these feelings are normal and that every entrepreneur experiences them. Building a community of like-minded individuals and having mentors can provide support and inspiration during difficult times. However, being an entrepreneur can also be a thankless task, requiring constant effort and problem-solving, with little recognition or appreciation for the hard work. Despite the challenges, the rewards of entrepreneurship, such as personal growth and the ability to change one's life, make it a worthwhile endeavor. It's essential to have a support system and to acknowledge the normalcy of the ups and downs that come with entrepreneurship.

    • Weathering criticism and self-doubt as an entrepreneurEntrepreneurs face criticism and self-doubt, but remembering to acknowledge positive feedback, give and receive love, and celebrate achievements can help weather the storms and continue leading.

Being a successful entrepreneur often means facing criticism and self-doubt. It's easy to get caught up in negative feedback from trolls and haters, but it's important to remember that your value lies in your ability to weather these storms and continue leading. At the same time, it's essential to give and receive love and appreciation, both in our personal and professional lives. It can be easy to take positive feedback for granted, but it's crucial to acknowledge and be grateful for it. Additionally, many entrepreneurs struggle with self-comparison and self-criticism, constantly striving for more success and feeling like they're not doing enough. However, these feelings can be a driving force, pushing us to improve and innovate. It's essential to remember to pat ourselves on the back and celebrate our achievements, even the small ones, to keep pushing forward.

    • Embracing Self-Acceptance and Belief in PotentialEntrepreneurship requires recognizing accomplishments, self-acceptance, growth mindset, and belief in potential. It's natural to compare and feel inadequate, but everyone is unique, and growth is personal.

Entrepreneurship involves a unique blend of self-acceptance, growth mindset, and a deep-rooted belief in one's potential for greatness. It's essential to recognize and appreciate our accomplishments daily, accept that we are enough, and acknowledge our feelings of being destined for more. The entrepreneurial journey is filled with challenges, and it's natural to compare ourselves to others or feel like we're not enough. However, it's crucial to remember that everyone is unique and that our growth and progress are our own. Entrepreneurship also involves a strong desire to serve others and balance selflessness and selfishness. Ultimately, it's about striving for personal and professional growth while maintaining a healthy sense of self-worth and understanding that we are meant to make a positive impact on the world.

    • Investing in yourself, relationships, and societySuccessful entrepreneurs invest in themselves, build strong relationships, and provide value to customers through fair business practices and effective marketing

Personal growth and providing for your family are important, but it's equally essential to give back to society and engage in fair business practices. Entrepreneurship involves investing in yourself and your business, but also in building relationships and providing value to customers. A successful business requires both a well-presented shop front (representing your product or service) and effective marketing to attract customers. Sales and marketing are not just about making a profit, but about creating a fair exchange environment where both parties feel they have received value. By embracing this mindset, entrepreneurs can build a sustainable business and increase their self-worth.

    • Embracing unconventional traits for entrepreneurial successEntrepreneurship requires skills beyond craftsmanship, including sales, decision-making, and calculated risks for business growth.

Entrepreneurship involves more than just being skilled in your craft; it also requires embracing sales and marketing, being comfortable with making decisions, and taking calculated risks. These traits, though sometimes unconventional, are essential for building a successful business. Remember, the majority of consumers are served by entrepreneurs, and even large corporations have employees who make significant contributions. So, don't let anyone tell you that being an entrepreneur is not for you based on your personality or past experiences. Instead, recognize that the ability to handle sales, make decisions, and take calculated risks are valuable skills that can lead to business growth and success.

    • Embracing Entrepreneurship: Balancing Self-Interest and Helping OthersEmbrace being busy, see opportunities, balance self-interest with helping others, master sales and marketing, believe in potential, practice self-compassion, be a contrarian, embrace risk-taking

Successful entrepreneurs are driven individuals who thrive on being busy, seeing opportunities, and balancing self-interest with helping others. They may feel alone at times, but they push through and believe in their potential for greatness. Sales and marketing are essential skills to master, even if it's scary at first. Entrepreneurship involves taking risks and embracing the unknown. Listen to the Disruptive Entrepreneur Podcast for inspiring interviews with successful entrepreneurs and business leaders. Key takeaways from the speaker's discussion include: 1. Embrace being busy and getting things done 2. See opportunities everywhere 3. Balance self-interest with helping others 4. • The importance of staying informedStaying informed broadens perspectives, deepens understanding, and makes a positive impact. Set aside time each day to read news, attend events, or have meaningful conversations.

Staying informed and not missing out on important information is crucial. The quote "If you don't miss anything, you miss it" highlights the significance of being present and engaged in the world around us. Whether it's through reading the news, attending events, or having meaningful conversations, there's always something new to learn and discover. Staying informed not only helps us expand our knowledge and understanding of the world, but it also allows us to make more informed decisions in our personal and professional lives. In today's fast-paced world, it can be easy to get overwhelmed and feel like we can't keep up. But as the discussion emphasized, missing out on even small pieces of information can have a ripple effect and impact us in unexpected ways. So, make a conscious effort to stay informed and engaged. Set aside time each day to read the news, attend events, or have meaningful conversations with others. And remember, even small steps can lead to big gains. By staying informed, we can broaden our perspectives, deepen our understanding of complex issues, and ultimately, make a positive impact on the world around us.

Red Carded by the BBC: Mark Lawrenson Talks About Shocking Exit and Life Before and After Football

Red Carded by the BBC: Mark Lawrenson Talks About Shocking Exit and Life Before and After Football

Rob is joined by ex-footballer and commentator Mark Lawrenson in this episode. Mark talks about what it was like to work for and then be axed by the BBC, the reasons he believes so many of his fellow presenters were axed and also reveals a shocking story around the Maxwells and Robert Maxwell’s murder. Rob and Mark also discuss why they feel the UK has gone soft, the impact big money and financing has made to football and more incredible stories from his career as a footballer and presenter.

    Mark Lawrenson Reveals:

    • Why the BBC Sacked him
    • The differences between male and female football
    • Why TV and the country has gone ‘too soft’
    • What it was like to play for Liverpool
    • Why being told he couldn’t play football drove him to his ultimate success
    • The negative impact of big money and finance on football
    • A shocking story surrounding Maxwell's alleged murder by Mossad

    BEST MOMENTS

“Really good [football] commentary makes a huge difference”

    “The country is knackered”

"Bob Paisley comes down from upstairs, takes him a couple of minutes and everything. Walks in. Complete hush, respect... Where's Alan Kennedy? And one of the lads had gone, 'Oh, he's over here.' So, Bob strolled over and looked at him, and he said, 'Do you know what, Alan? They shot the wrong fucking Kennedy.'"

"I'd get slaughtered sometimes, fair enough, doesn't particularly bother me. And then I'd meet somebody and then they say to me, 'Oh you're completely different from what you, when you're commentating,' and I go, 'No I'm not. I'm just the same.'"

"One of the problems with the BBC was that they don't really understand things like you've been a footballer and sometimes you get left out. And you get taken off the pitch. And it's as though they can't tell you the bad news."

"My biggest disruption was my mum leaving us... We never knew. My mum always said to us, 'You, I'll never tell you what happened, but you would have done the same thing.'"

"Robert Maxwell owns Derby, Kevin Maxwell owns Oxford... He looked at me and he said, 'What's your problem?' I imagine that, and it just all came out, and I called him every name under the sun. And he looked at me, and he went, 'I quite like you actually.'”
