Welcome to another episode of the Dr. Lo Radio Show!

Wendy Snyder is a mom of two, Certified Positive Parenting Educator, and Family Life Coach. She inspires parents to learn and grow through connection-based firm and kind strategies. Wendy helps parents ditch the threats, yelling and harsh punishments so they can live a life as a joyful and confident parent.

In this episode, Wendy thought she was prepared for motherhood, then explains how having her own strong-willed daughter opened her eyes to so many other things. Through her journey, she found “Positive Parenting” and learned that a lot of her kids’ behaviors were directly related to her, and weren’t solely a reflection of them as individuals.

After a few years, Wendy became an educator after feeling that she had an obligation to share the tips she had learned. Today, she spreads her message in local groups in San Diego as well as online in her Fresh Start Family groups.

313: Binging Sober with Colleen Ryan-Hensley

Welcome to another episode of the Dr. Lo Radio Show!

Colleen Ryan-Hensley is a Navy Veteran and has launched #bingingSober – a practice she’s used to manage mental health challenges for two decades. Binging Sober focuses on the value of taking time away from intoxication via mind-numbing, unhealthy escapism in all of its forms - including alcohol, social media, processed food, and more - rather than permanently abstaining from any single habit.

Colleen has a background in Performance Psychology, and has spent over fifteen years reinventing “mental toughness”.

In this episode, Colleen shares her story of trauma and some of the methods and systems she’s used to “peel her layers” in order to get to the root of her pain. She describes how she had habits of deflecting from even using certain language to define her trauma, and how she was able to finally come to terms with accepting what it was by using her “Binging Sober” method.

311: Retraining the Brain’s Trauma Response with Annie Hopper

311: Retraining the Brain’s Trauma Response with Annie Hopper

Welcome to another episode of the Dr. Lo Radio Show!

In this episode, Annie Hopper describes how she was able to rehabilitate her brain, which ultimately led to her full recovery, after years of dealing with “unexplained” illnesses. Her desire to help others who were suffering, ultimately resulted in her creation of the DNRS Program.

The Dynamic Neural Retraining System, or DNRS, has helped thousands of people “retrain the brain” to regulate a maladapted stress response. This has created a space for healing and recovery for patients who once suffered from “mysterious” chronic symptoms and syndromes.

In this episode, Annie shares her personal story on how trauma manifested in her life and how she was able to “reverse” its impact later in life.

Annie was once debilitated by her illnesses and sensitivities. She started to wonder if some of the symptoms or challenges she was experiencing were caused by some sort of protective mechanism, deep within her limbic system. Could an accumulation of chemical, physical, and emotional trauma create a disorganization of neural circuits in the limbic system, keeping her body in a sort of “flight” state that constantly kept her body in a cycle of chronic illness? And if so, what could be done?

The brain is like a computer, or a road map, and it can be rewired with the right attention and work. Rewiring the brain can help lessen or even eliminate automatic stress responses. Annie describes what she calls “The Five Pillars of Recovery” and how this program is utilized with people suffering from stress response-related ailments.

I’d love your feedback on this episode, so please leave a review on the podcast or continue the conversation on my Instagram @dr_lo

I hope you learned something new today!

01:40 Intro to the DNRS Program (Dynamic Neural Retraining System)
07:55 Annie’s “perfect storm” for limbic system impairment
13:15 The Limbic System and Annie’s research

20:09 How Annie’s recovery began, and her mission to help others
20:59 The Limbic System and threat-response
22:39 The Five Pillars of Recovery, explained
26:04 Changing the brain’s perception of external “triggers”
27:27 An example of Incremental Training; choosing a different way to act on thoughts

310: CIRS - The Mystery Illness with Dr. Eric Dorninger

310: CIRS - The Mystery Illness with Dr. Eric Dorninger

Welcome to another episode of the Dr. Lo Radio Show!

Today I am chatting with Dr. Eric Dorninger of Roots and Branches about CIRS (Chronic Inflammatory Response Syndrome). With symptoms such as fatigue, disorientation, eyesight disorders, bowel irregularity and much more, this condition often goes misdiagnosed.

Dr. Dorninger ND, LAc is a Registered Naturopathic Doctor and Licensed Acupuncturist. Prior to medical school, he received his B.A. in Kinesiology from the University of Colorado. During this time he also finished his E.M.T. (Emergency Medical Technician) training and volunteered at Porter Care Hospice in Denver.

Following undergrad, Dr. Dorninger completed his doctorate in naturopathic medicine and his master’s degree in acupuncture at Bastyr University, after which he returned to Boulder, Colorado to complete a 2-year residency in naturopathic primary care.

In 2005, Dr. Dorninger founded Roots and Branches Integrative Health Care, a clinic dedicated to “Mystery Illness” where he focuses on elucidating the underlying causes of unrelenting chronic illness.  Dr. Dorninger is not concerned with what you have as much as he is with why you have it. He has dedicated his professional life to a deeper understanding of differential diagnosis based in the tradition of “Remove Obstacles to Cure.”

In this episode, Dr. Dorninger also goes into depth about biotoxin exposure, explaining how many standard environmental tests aren’t detailed enough to detect the biotoxins that may be responsible for CIRS. He also talks about water-damaged buildings and how many inspectors can miss these markers.

If you are listening to this episode and you or someone you know has been diagnosed with a condition, but still suffers symptoms, this is the episode for you! Many doctors and clinicians have not had the education or experience to properly diagnose CIRS, so it’s often overlooked.

I’d love your feedback on this episode, so please leave a review on the podcast or continue the conversation on my Instagram @dr_lo

307: Using Naturopathic Medicine to Beat Hormone Imbalance

Welcome to another episode of the Dr. Lo Radio Show! I really enjoyed recording this episode, and I think you will enjoy it as well.

Along with her private coaching practice, she is the author of The Holistic Christian Woman, leads women’s wellness workshops, speaks at conferences, and holds retreats.
