We dropped by the house and studio of brilliantly inventive composer Klimchak to talk about his upcoming show CooksNotes. Starting March 5th, CooksNotes is an innovative twist on an intimate chef dinner. The chef-composer’s self-designed musical instruments were made out of kitchen equipment. An original piece of music was written to be played on each of the home-built cooking implements. For CooksNotes, Klimchak will give a concert of that music WHILE cooking food on each of the instruments. By the end of the concert, he will have made a complete meal for the audience to eat and enjoy. Klimchack gave us a tour of his amazing basement studio which was full of vintage electronics and handmade instruments. Afterwards we went up to the kitchen to preview some of the instruments and performances he's got in store for his show in the Rodriguez Room. Thanks to Klimchak for his time and the tour! Ingredients for punch are poured into the bowls, which are played as they drain & mix up punch. •• A large cutting board with different-sized compartments inside so it will make a variety of pitches when food is chopped on it. The sounds are fed into a looper pedal so different percussive & vocal sounds can be layered. The cutting board will be used to chop the ingredients for an appetizer spread. •• A set of 12-24 electric blenders, each of which is tuned to a specific pitch. They will be filled with the ingredients for a chilled soup, which will be blended together as the different pitches of the blenders make a composition. •• A 24-inch wok with an attached high temperature microphone is used to stir fry rice & vegetables. The sounds of the sizzling ingredients and the metallic sounds as spatulas toss them are fed into a computer for looping & sound manipulation, controlled by a set of experimental electronic gloves that Klimchak is beta-testing for Imogen Heap especially for this show. •• A sound score for video projections of a series of fights and battles edited together from old martial arts movies. Salad is made onstage using the rhythms of the fighting. This live foley score uses the amplified sounds of vegetable tearing & cutting to imitate & accompany the punches & kicks of the on-screen action. •• Crisp flatbread made over a flame tube that changes appearance as music is played into an attached speaker. Klimchak will control the flames with some home-built instruments and a theremin. •• A composition for vegetable woodwinds. Root vegetables are carved into flutes/whistles to be played by the audience. Each of the audience instruments will have a single pitch. The audience is taught a simple hocket-based melody/rhythm line to play on their instruments. As they play, Klimchak plays a lead line on full-tuned vegetable clarinets, flutes and duduks. At the end a dip is provided so the audience can eat their instruments. CooksNotes is a recipient of the Goat Farm Arts Center’s Arts Investment Package (AIP). Goat Farm resident Solomon Chase is a film maker and visual artist. In addition to that, Chase is a big proponent of new digital money. He's even installed a Bitcoin ATM in the Warhorse Coffee shop. Chamber Cartel's Adam Scott Neal takes over hosting duties to preview two tracks from his upcoming cd release. Adam Scott Neal (b. 1981, Atlanta) is a composer, video artist, and improviser. His theoretical research focuses on modes of practice in experimental music, music and philosophy, and popular music analysis. He earned a PhD at the University of Florida and previous degrees at Queen's University Belfast and Georgia State University. Adam has enjoyed over 100 performances of his music in 23 states, as well as the UK, Canada, China, Italy, Mexico, Slovenia, and Switzerland. He is Production Manager for the Charlotte New Music Festival and one of the Artistic Directors of Terminus Ensemble (Atlanta). Find more info about Adam at http://www.adamscottneal.com

Atlanta Artist and Goat Farmer Mike Stasny is making quite a name for himself in the Atlanta art scene. His shows at Dashboard Co-Op, Kibbee Gallery and the Goat Farm have featured his amazing "creatures". Padua Playwrights (Los Angeles) and PushPush (Atlanta) were already discussing a project about the hard-core ways in which technology collides with human psychology when the 2012 photo of Hillary Clinton watching in awe as American troops stormed the Bin Laden compound appeared in The New York Times. The implications of that photograph sparked a deeper dialogue between playwright Guy Zimmerman and PushPush, which ultimately led to Zimmerman's script for THE HILLARY GAME. As a follow-up to a successful 2013 project, The Black Glass, THE HILLARY GAME is a work-in-progress with a long production plan that includes a public ramp-up to the 2016 election, both U.S. and international tours, and numerous community engagements. Though PushPush and Padua have been constructing the production for nearly a year, the production has become even more relevant, timely and absolute given the recent world events. PushPush advises that some imagery and content in THE HILLARY GAME may not be suitable for all - viewer discretion is highly advised.
