    Belinda (Bel) Woodhouse, International Living Magazine – Mexico Correspondent

    While sitting on a beach in Bali, Bel realized she didn’t want to go back to work. She went home, put in her discharge papers to the Royal Australian Navy and started the journey of becoming a travel writer. After traveling through India, Cambodia, the Americas, Mexico, Panama, Guatemala and teaching English Antigua, she wrote her first article as a travel writer in Qué Pasa Magazine.

    Currently living in Cozumel, Bel planned to be there for a year, but it’s now been five years. It’s safe to say she loves her beautiful Mexican island.

    In this episode, we’re talking about living part-time in another country, especially during the winter months. We dive into how to research where you’d like to live, your budget depending on what you’d like to experience, quality and cost of healthcare in different countries, amenities, cultural experiences, entertainment, and more.

    In this episode, Kate Raftery takes us on a journey of discovery about the many benefits of serving in the Peace Corps as a 50+ volunteer. 

    We're talking about everything from what is the Peace Corp to how the experience and wisdom of a 50+ volunteer benefits the communities served, as well as younger volunteers to what is provided to volunteers by the Peace Corps ~ training, healthcare, reintegration planning, etc. and much more.

    Kate currently serves as a Senior Advisor at Peace Corps. Previously, Kate was the Country Director for Peace Corps Paraguay. Prior to that role, she was the Sexual Assault Risk Reduction and Response Program Team Lead in the Office of the Director at Peace Corps.  She also served as the Director of the AmeriCorps National Civilian Community Corps (NCCC). And as the Vice President for Learning and Citizenship at the International Youth Foundation where she worked with young people across the globe to increase their participation in political dialogue and community service. Kate was also the Executive Director of the National Park Foundation and Vice President of Partners of the Americas.

    In addition to her current position, Kate has held various positions at Peace Corps including Chief of Operations for Inter-America and the Pacific Region AND Country Director in Honduras, Peru and the Eastern Caribbean. Kate began her journey with Peace Corps as a Volunteer in Paraguay in the early ‘70s. Over the last 35 years, Kate has been sharing her adventures with her daughter Elizabeth Gabriela.
