Comments or Questions? Email me at nick@underthecrossbones.com or join us on Facebook or Twitter.

Melinda Long had written books before but when she discovered that at the time there were very few children's books about pirates, she decided to write one.  About the same time her book was to come out, Disney released Pirates of the Caribbean.  Talk about being in the right place at the right time.

    In this episode:

How Melinda got her book published

The process of writing a children's book

How her work took on a life of it's own via a sequel and a play

Thank you so much for tuning in (or back into) the show, this is my first episode as host of this wonderful ship that Phil Johnson built.  While he has provided so much support and training to have me take over the show, this first effort has all the marks of "what is this guy thinking?!?"  But we have to start somewhere.  The interview is lovely, Melinda couldn't have been a better first guest for me, I hope you tune in to listen to this and all upcoming episodes as I get better at this.

Lou Hernandez aka Cutthroat Cortez of Pirates Plunder is living an enviable life.  He's a pirate because it's fun and because he wants to.  And he's using his pirate character to put good things in the world and help others.

And for my final show as host, Lou is the perfect guest.  He's exactly the kind of person that makes the pirate community great.  Creative, supportive, and genuine.

    In this episode:

    • How Lou went from being a cowboy to a pirate
    • Their mission to educate and entertain kids, especially sick children
    • How he's building his crew out to be an event planning company by saying yes and figuring out how to do it

Starting next week Nick Hoffman will be taking over the show.  You may still hear from me periodically when any of my new projects intersect with pirate culture.  It's been my privilege to create this show for you for the last 4 years and I hope you'll come along on the ride to my further adventures.

Thank you so much for spending your time with me each week and introducing me to so many great people along the way.

Musical Blades are legends of the pirate music scenes and I can't believe it took 200 episodes to get to them.  But here they are!  Everybody is on the mic today and it gets a little chaotic, but it's really fun talk.  Co-host Marck Forget of Festival des Pirates sits in with me.

    In this episode:

    • Dealing with adultish material in a family atmosphere
    • Their secret hard rock roots
    • How they're working very differently on their new album
    • Their upcoming trip to Ireland with fans
    • Are they wearing shirts?
