    About this Episode

🎵Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back. Welcome back.🎵 Welcome back indeed, listeners, as we venture into the Quantum Realm! I am discussing the MCU movie Ant-Man and the Wasp: Quantumania, Marvel Studios' third entry in the Ant-Man series and the first (and also probably last) MCU movie to feature Kang the Conqueror. After Kang was technically introduced as He Who Remains in the season 1 finale of Loki, I was very excited to see that story continued in this movie, but was the excitement worth it? Stay tuned to find out, and if you like this episode, please subscribe to the podcast wherever you listen so that you never miss a new episode! Next up on the podcast, Ric and I will be tackling the 2023 live-action remake of The Little Mermaid, so prepare to return once again to the sea! I would love to hear from you, so please feel free to reach out via any of the contact methods listed below!

I will also be going through five honorable mentions for a total of ten Disney Villains. Will your favorite villain make the cut? Tune in to find out, and if you enjoy this episode, please subscribe to the podcast wherever you listen so that you never miss a new episode! 19 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

19 - The Rocky Horror Picture Show (1975)

Let's do the time warp again - as in bring you an episode from the past! Originally intended to be a seasonal Halloween episode, our discussion around The Rocky Horror Picture Show (originally released by Fox which now means that it's Disney property) is being released much closer to Thanksgiving than to Halloween, but it was recorded on Halloween, so that counts for something, right? Besides, Eddie certainly looks like a Thanksgiving turkey in the dinner scene! Ric is back in this episode to tackle the 1975 cult horror comedy musical The Rocky Horror Picture Show, sharing our earliest memories of having seen it and how our feelings for it have evolved over time. We also share how much we appreciate it being so far ahead of its time, an arthouse film in so many ways that was very likely aware that it was going to cause more raised eyebrows in 1975 than it was going to cause bitten lower lips. Even though the film is whacky and nonsensical and does not have much of a linear plot, we love it for what it is and recognize that, despite that, there are still some interesting themes to pull from the film such as rejecting oppressive cultural and norms and instead allowing yourself to be yourself - to not dream it but rather to be it! We both had such a blast discussing this movie and hope that you love our conversation! If so, please be sure to subscribe to the podcast so that you never miss a new episode. I would also love to hear from you, so please feel free to reach out to me via one of the contact methods listed below, but, in the meantime, stay tuned for the next episode when I will be counting down my top five favorite Disney villains!

    18 - The Shape of Water (2017)

    18 - The Shape of Water (2017)

We are continuing spooky season this year with the Academy Award winning 2017 film The Shape of Water! Directed and co-written by legendary filmmaker Guillermo del Toro, The Shape of Water is heavily influenced by the 1954 horror film The Creature from the Black Lagoon and tells the story of Elisa Esposito, a middle-aged nonverbal woman who falls in love with an Amphibian Man not too far removed from the Gill-man creature from the aforementioned classic horror film. I am joined again in this episode by Ric (who is, in fact, the one who originally recommended the movie to me), and we discuss how cinematically and visually beautiful that this very green movie is, pointing to some of our favorite shots and scenes. We also discuss themes that the movie touches upon, themes such as social oppression, marginalization, and loneliness. We both love this movie, and I am so glad that Ric recommended it to me! Join us (and yes, Ric will be back again, so I mean us literally!) next time as we do the time warp again discussing The Rocky Horror Picture Show! In the meantime, please feel free to reach out with your thoughts about The Shape of Water, The Rocky Horror Picture Show, or anything related to Disney for that matter! I would so love to hear from you!

    17 - The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

    17 - The Nightmare Before Christmas (1993)

Boys and girls of every age, wouldn't you like to see something strange? It is officially spooky season (otherwise known as the most wonderful time of the year), and we are kicking that off with one of my favorite movies of all time, The Nightmare Before Christmas! When Jack Skellington starts to feel disenchanted about his role as king of Halloween Town, he decides to take over Christmas instead which leads to disastrous results, and joining me for this conversation is my good friend Ric, whom regular listeners may recall from episode 4 of the podcast which covered Maleficent: Mistress of Evil! Ric joins me as we discuss our earliest memories around having seen this movie in the early '90s, what we especially love about this movie, who our favorite characters are, and so much more. Next up on the podcast is The Shape of Water, for which Ric will be back once again! Please feel free to reach out with your thoughts about The Nightmare Before Christmas, The Shape of Water, or anything related to Disney for that matter! I would so love to hear from you!

    16 - Moana (2016)

Coming off from discussing Ariel's journey in The Little Mermaid (1989) and The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea, join me in this episode as I discuss another Disney Princess associated with the sea, Moana! The eponymous movie follows Moana of the South Pacific island Motunui as she, with the help of an unlikely friend (the demigod named Maui), journeys far beyond her waters to restore the heart of the goddess Te Fiti and save the world from the impending blight. I share my favorite moments from the movie and commend its beautiful, stellar animation and also share a thing or two that I think the movie could have done better. Of course, with it now being September, it is now officially Spooky Season, so I hope that you will join me next time when I tackle one of my all-time favorite movies - The Nightmare Before Christmas! Until then, please feel free to reach out with your Disney-related thoughts! I would really love to hear from you!

15 - The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea (2000)

Following up last episode in which I went under the sea to discuss the 1989 animated classic The Little Mermaid, join me now as I talk about the 2000 straight-to-video sequel, The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea! In this follow-up, Ariel is now mother to an adventurous and indepedent tween named Melody who faces the danger of falling prey to Ursula's vengeful sister Morgana. While it doesn't really hold a candle to its predecessor, it is a decent sequel and is at least a lot better than the prequel movie that followed, and I hope that you will join me as I share my thoughts on it! Next up is another beloved character associated with the sea, Moana! Please feel free to reach out to me with your thoughts on that (or, for that matter, anything related to Disney) because I would so love to hear from you!

    14 - The Little Mermaid (1989)

Look at this podcast. Isn't it neat? It's time to take a dive under the sea to discuss the 1989 animated classic, The Little Mermaid! Join me as I talk about how much I love Ursula (my third favorite Disney villain) and how my perspective on Ariel has changed a bit now that I am an adult. With stellar cinematography and beautiful, haunting music, this film is undoubtedly one of my favorites, so I am so excited to be sharing this discussion with you, and if you're looking for a more thorough discussion of the 2023 live-action remake, don't worry - it's coming! In the meantime, the 2000 sequel The Little Mermaid II: Return to the Sea is up next on the agenda, so please feel free to reach out to me with your thoughts on that (or, for that matter, anything related to Disney). I would love to hear from you!

    13 - Your Friend the Rat (2007)

    13 - Your Friend the Rat (2007)

Following my discussion of the Disney/Pixar hit Ratatouille, I am doing a pretty short episode on, well, a short! The short movie Your Friend the Rat was released as a bonus feature on the Ratatouille home video (which was released several months after the movie itself hit cinemas). While it doesn't really feature much of a story, it is a very educational and, at times, funny movie about the history of rats and the species' interactions with humans. Be sure to hit me up about any thoughts that you might have about the 1989 classic animated movie The Little Mermaid because that is up next!

    12 - Ratatouille (2007)

Last time on the podcast, I discussed the 2022 Searchlight Pictures horror comedy The Menu, and while I am returning to a more traditional Disney movie this time, I am staying on the foodie train with the 2007 Disney/Pixar movie Ratatouille! Join me as I talk about a rat named Remy who can somehow control a young man named Linguini by using strands of his hair as puppet strings (something that is never explained) and does so to fulfill his dream of becoming a world-renowned chef. I talk about my favorite moments from the movie and how adorable Remy's and Linguini's friendship is, and I also reflect on some of what I remember feeling after first seeing the movie vs. how I feel now after rewatching it. If you're a fan of this movie, then I hope that will hit the play button and listen in! Be sure to also tune in for the next episode when I will talk about the short Ratatouoille movie Your Friend the Rat! I would love to hear from you in the meantime, so feel free to share your thoughts!
