301: Embracing Neurodiversity in the Workplace with Rev. Dr. Stephanie C. Holmes

301: Embracing Neurodiversity in the Workplace with Rev. Dr. Stephanie C. Holmes

Are your company policies and cultural norms creating unnecessary roadblocks for people? Neurodiversity is a term that recognizes the differences in all people, and is often used to refer to different thinking and behavior patterns in the context of the autistic spectrum. In this interview Andrea taps the experience and expertise of an autism specialist to help us all learn what we can do to be more accommodating to the diverse needs of people at work, giving them a chance to bring their best to work.

Stephanie C. Holmes is formerly a licensed professional counselor (LPC) in the state of NC. She received her bachelor’s degree in psychology from Campbell University, her Master’s in counseling from Liberty University and her doctorate in education from Abilene Christian University. She is an ordained minister, author, autism researcher, speaker, and certified autism specialist. When Sydney was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome, her world and focus changed from a thriving marriage and family therapy practice to a world of Individualized Education Programs, 504 educational plans, and understanding how to help students and individuals with challenges and needs in the classroom and the church setting. Today, she pulls from personal as well as professional experience to focus on neurodiverse marriages and family systems. She is the owner and founder of Autism Spectrum Resources for Marriage & Family, LLC, and she and Dan co-founded The International Association of NeuroDiverse Christian Marriage, LLC and the podcast NeuroDiverse Christian Couples.

300: What I Learned About Significance in Kenya

300: What I Learned About Significance in Kenya
There's an underutilized leadership skill that we're highlighting today in our 300th (woot, woot!) episode of the Voice of Influence podcast, and that's the skill of acknowledging significance of what people contribute and achieve. We're not talking about giving pats on the back or gold stars. Instead, we're talking about finding meaning and sharing authentic acknowledgement of why something matters.

Andrea shares about a key leadership lesson she learned from Alice Atemo of Overcoming Faith Schools for orphaned children in western Kenya. On a recent trip to the schools, she noticed the importance of ceremony to helping children see the significance of themselves, their education, and their opportunities. If you want to learn more about the schools and how to support their worthy mission, go to the US based 501c3 website: www.tucklets.org.
