#52 Aim for Skills to Start Your Journey

Playing with your shoelaces and thinking about running is not the same as entering the race and placing yourself on the starting the line. When you decide to become skillful in your art whether it is Northern Shaolin, Tai Chi Chuan, Sword, Xing Yi Quan, or Qigong is when your journey really begins. By committing yourself to regular, focused practice and paying with your time and effort you earn the real skills, physique, and health benefits of your training. I also discuss how my teachers Ba Gua Zhang Master Zhang Hua Sen and Chen Family Tai Chi Master Chen Xiao Wang escaped hardship by mastering their arts. This is somewhat different than the sacrifices required in modern life. When you decide to become skillful and spend the time and effort you will also meet your own mind, and train it and your will power to keep your feet on the path and heading toward your goal. In addition, I have a fun question that will help you meet your own mind and find out who is driving the car on this journey!

In this podcast I explain the concept of Center Equilibrium that I learned from Tai Chi Grandmaster Yang Zhenduo in the 1990s. Yang Zhenduo was the Grandmaster of the Yang Family of Tai Chi Chuan and a direct father to son family inheritor of the style from his Grandfather Yang Lu Chan the founder of Yang Style of Tai Chi. The concept of Center Equilibrium, isn't difficult to grasp and it will provide a useful guide to immediately improve your Tai Chi skills and enhance both the beauty of your performance and your own internal experience of performing the art. Center Equilibrium a is a concept or theory of Tai Chi Chuan that is rarely explained or understood.

#47 Center Axis or Center Line in Classical Tai Chi and Kung Fu

#47 Center Axis or Center Line in Classical Tai Chi and Kung Fu

The Center Line or Center Axis is a posture and movement principle in many forms or styles of Qigong, Tai Chi Chuan, Northern Shaolin, Xing Yi Quan, Ba Gua Zhang, Lan Shou Quan, Three Kingdoms Cannon Fist and other styles of classical martial arts.

In this podcast you will learn about the center line concept, how it is formed of three points. What those points are and how they are important. Learn why and how to develop a good center line awareness and use it in  martial arts training and practice. Establishing and using your center line can enhance your power, prevent injuries, and improve your body control and balance in movement.

Practicing center line awareness and movement is also helpful for dodging and efficient turning in general.

A good center line is also important to establish before progressing to advanced Qigong practices.
