    About this Episode

“No Man is an Island.” John Donne wrote that in 1624. Somehow our society has forgotten that we were never meant to do it alone. We’ve been taught that being strong means being independent and not needing help. The truth is that being strong means knowing when you need help and having the strength and courage to be vulnerable and to ask for help. It is not a sign of strength when the preferred treatment for fear is medication rather than healing. Facing ourselves is a sign of strength. Facing who we truly are and what we truly want in life is a huge risk when it goes against what our families, friends, colleagues and society believe is best for us. The fear of losing their conditional love can overwhelm us and cause us to stay stuck in situations that we don’t have the skills or knowledge to change. We do so at what cost to our self-esteem and our soul? Join us Thursday to learn how important it is to receive the right kind of support.

Rediscovering Yourself and Healing After Grief and Trauma

Rediscovering Yourself and Healing After Grief and Trauma
Michele was widowed in her thirties when her husband was hit while riding his bicycle. She discovered that: “We can't forget the lessons that grief and trauma teach us. And if we determine that the only way to consider ourselves healed is to return to the same self we were before trauma entered our lives, we are bound to fail. Instead, I believe that our work is to integrate every life experience, the wonderful and the terrible, into our lives and to view our healing through a lens that encourages and welcomes personal evolution--even if that evolution is fueled by trauma.” Michele’s healing process is helpful for anyone who has experienced the transition of a loved one, and any trauma such as physical injury, life-altering illness, violence, or abuse. Please join us Thursday to learn how we can integrate all our life experiences to become more resilient, strong, courageous, and transformed.

Understanding Wisdom and How We Can All Become Wiser

Understanding Wisdom and How We Can All Become Wiser
Dr. Jeste says wise people are smart, warmhearted, compassionate, empathetic, sophisticated, open minded, good listeners, reflective, unselfish, problem focused, trusted advisors, able to see from many perspectives, and willing to act on their beliefs. They are happy, aware of their gifts and blind spots, and make others feel heard. People who are wise instinctively know how to handle personal problems that overwhelm most people. They are calm and resolute amidst chaos and uncertainty. Others want to be more like them, and now they can be. As Dr. Jeste says, The modern rise in suicides, opioid abuse, loneliness, and internet addiction is damaging people’s health and destroying the social fabric. His research shows us how we can nurture and grow every facet of wisdom to face these challenges and others more effectively. Please join us Thursday to learn how to identify, understand, nurture, and promote the behaviors of wisdom that are already within all of us.

Communicate with Trees, Unlock Their Magic, & Help Save Them
We’ve heard a lot about the benefits of trees for our physical and emotional health and well-being. Did you know that trees are also healers and magical spiritual beings? Some trees are as old as 9000 years, and they communicate with each other through their roots. Here is what Dr. Kac Young says about the book she’ll be talking about on my show: “I am so excited about my new book Magical Trees: A Guidebook for Finding the Magic in Everyday Trees using Crystals, Spells, Essential Oils and Rituals. Now is the time for this book to reach as many people as we can. The message in this book is personal and global. Trees need to be loved and sustained because they are so important to the body and soul of humans and to the longevity of our planet. In this book I outline everything we need to know about 50 trees and how we can use them for healing, magic, rituals, and sustenance. I hope you will join me in celebrating the wonder of trees, their priceless gifts and the knowledge we can share about how very special they truly are. Without trees humans cannot survive.” Please join us next Thursday to learn about how to communicate with trees, unlock their magic, and help save them from extinction.

Transform Relationship Conflicts & Heal Childhood Wounds

Transform Relationship Conflicts & Heal Childhood Wounds
Mass shootings, Covid, climate change, and all the stressors in the world and in our personal and work lives has caused most of us to be in a constant state of anxiety which often explodes into anger toward the people closest to us. A gesture, a tone of voice, or even a gentle touch can put us back into an earlier time in our life when we felt we weren’t good enough, we weren’t lovable, or we were in physical danger. It takes us out of the present moment and throws us into the past. Our survival brain takes over and triggers the fight, flight, or freeze response. Our logical mind is no longer in charge, and we act in ways that damage relationships important to us. This does not have to be the case. We can learn to respond, not react, and go from triggered to tranquil. Please join us Thursday to learn how to recognize our own triggers and those of people we care about, and techniques to heal ourselves and relationship misunderstandings.

Becoming the Peace You Want to See in the World

Becoming the Peace You Want to See in the World
Peace in the world begins with peace within each of us. As we change, everyone and everything around us changes. Quantum Physics teaches us that everything vibrates at a specific frequency. As we release fear, anxiety, shame, blame, and other negative emotions and thoughts, our vibration increases. Negative thoughts and emotions have a low frequency whereas positive thoughts and emotions have a high frequency. The more we stay in the high vibrations of love, gratitude, kindness, respect, harmony, balance, and peace, the higher our frequency is. The positive energy spreads to everyone in our lives, even the people we pass on the street. The result is that change in the world happens by each of us becoming more positive and thereby raising our frequency. Please join us Thursday to learn techniques to help you become the peace you want to see in the world.

Letting Go of Nothing: Relax Your Mind and Find Your True Nature

Letting Go of Nothing: Relax Your Mind and Find Your True Nature
Shame, blame, guilt, and judgment are all habits of the mind. We can choose to stay in that uncomfortable way of thinking and living or we can choose to accept life and stop letting it hurt us. When I realized that all my experiences have helped form who I am, I began to experience life differently. Since I don’t know which parts of my life I could remove and still be me, I chose to acknowledge that all of it has helped me become my true self. Recognizing the gifts of learning and growth in each experience has brought me peace and gratitude. We may not be able to control what happens to us, but we can control how we think about it which changes how we feel long term. Please join us Thursday to learn how we can free our minds of pain and negativity, and feel the beauty, love, and peace that is available to all of us.

God, Love, and The Hidden Mystery of Human Connectedness

God, Love, and The Hidden Mystery of Human Connectedness
“Sometimes things happen that reveal an apparent pattern, plan, and meaning to the workings of the world. When this revelation occurs, it's as if the Universe winks at us to say, ‘now you're in on the secret!’ The ‘secret’ is the realization that an infinite, unitary intelligence pervades everything--what author Stephen G Post calls infinite Mind…and that love is a kind of metaphysical glue that holds things together and provides a delightful fizz to the whole show.” writes Dr. Larry Dossey, MD. My guest helps us understand the importance of synchronicity in our lives and how to recognize it; the importance of love, kindness, and generosity; and the hidden mystery of human connectedness. He prescribes volunteering for health, happiness, resilience, and longevity based on research showing volunteering lowers levels of inflammation, cholesterol, and the body mass index, and helps those with mental health issues such as depression and schizophrenia. Please join us Thursday to explore Stephen Post’s deep understanding of spirituality and how love drives out fear and heals us and the world.

PTSD: Discovering Hope, Healing, Strength, and Silver Linings

PTSD: Discovering Hope, Healing, Strength, and Silver Linings
June is National PTSD Awareness Month, which is why I scheduled Dr. Laurie to be with us this month. As Dan Rather says in the foreword to her new book: “When it comes to teaching how to not just survive life’s hardest blows but to eventually thrive, nothing beats a teacher who has learned through personal experience. Once a seasoned journalist but now a practicing psychotherapist, Dr. Laurie Nadel has written a compelling book that guides us through coping with life’s most troubling times.” Dr. Laurie lost her home during Hurricane Sandy. What she gained were true friendships and the gifts of humility, patience, empathy, forgiveness, and growth. She followed her intuition and then discovered that scientific research supported her. As we discuss in every show, there are always silver linings to even the most challenging situations. Please join us Thursday to learn how to heal from PTSD and embrace the gifts that give us hope healing, and strength.

Women Embracing Power: True Leadership & Healthy Relationships

Women Embracing Power: True Leadership & Healthy Relationships
Marsha is fearless in speaking the truth about challenges that are unique to women in leadership positions. They include misogyny from men, other women, and even from within ourselves. Aggression is not considered acceptable when it comes from women leaders; strong boundaries are often harder to set because of expectations; and conflict is something some women avoid to keep the peace rather than using it to create effective solutions. Women also have the strengths of empathy and compassion, which are currently the most sought-after qualities for leaders today. As women grow in our leadership and relationship skills and our support of each other, our authentic leadership style emerges. Marsha gives us the gift of a deep dive into what makes women unique and how we can look closely at our own strengths and challenges to become the best leaders and people we can be. Please join us Thursday to learn how women can enhance our strengths and grow stronger and wiser in the areas that were neglected in our education at home and in school.
