    enMarch 13, 2023

    Podcast Summary

    • From reality TV to successful modeling careerAppearing on a reality TV show can lead to unexpected career opportunities and financial growth, but initial success may require support from loved ones and perseverance to overcome early financial struggles

Appearing on a reality TV show like The Bachelorette can significantly impact an individual's career and financial situation. Tyler Cameron, a former contestant, shared his experience of going from having no money to building a successful modeling career and growing a large social media following after his appearance on the show. Before the show, he had modest interest from modeling agencies, but after becoming a fan favorite, the demand for his skills skyrocketed. However, in the early days of his success, he relied on the help of friends and family to make ends meet. He recalled a time when he was on a date with Gigi Hadid and only had $250 in his account, crossing his fingers that his card would swipe. Despite these challenges, Tyler remained optimistic and continued to pursue opportunities, eventually leading to a successful modeling career and additional business ventures.

    • Seizing unexpected opportunities leads to financial gainsDetermination, resilience, and seizing opportunities can lead to significant financial success.

Determination and resilience, coupled with the right opportunities, can lead to significant financial gains. The speaker in this conversation started out with limited resources, building a house by himself and struggling to make ends meet. However, he landed an unexpected opportunity to appear on a reality TV show, which ultimately became his biggest advertising campaign and brought him substantial income. Before this, he had also secured an investor for his housing project through his father's connections. These experiences demonstrate the importance of staying focused on goals, being resourceful, and seizing opportunities when they arise.

    • Taking risks and seizing opportunitiesDetermination and networking led a model with no experience to sign with an agency and gain success

Determination and seizing opportunities can lead to unexpected success. The speaker, who started with 2,000 Instagram followers and no modeling experience, ended up getting signed to a modeling agency after sending provocative photos to a casting director. The journey involved taking risks, such as sending the photos and quitting a job to pursue modeling full-time. The speaker's story also highlights the importance of networking and having a supportive network, as his brother and friend helped him take the photos for his digital portfolio. Additionally, the speaker's experience on a reality TV show brought him even more exposure and followers. Overall, the story demonstrates the power of taking chances and being persistent in pursuing one's goals.

    • Considering career implications before reality TV opportunitiesReality TV can bring career benefits, but it's crucial to weigh potential long-term consequences before accepting offers. Strategic decisions can help further career goals.

The experience of being on a reality TV show can significantly impact one's career and personal life, but it's essential to consider the potential long-term consequences before making a decision. The interviewee shared how being offered the opportunity to be the Bachelor after his stint on the show was a turning point, and he decided against it based on career advice. He also mentioned that he wasn't built for social media and that being a television personality was the primary way he grew or gained relevance. The interview also touched upon how the interviewee's decision not to appear on Paradise or become the Bachelor was strategic, as he had ideas and plans for his career that he wanted to pursue. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of considering various factors before making significant decisions in one's career.

    • The Bachelor franchise needs to evolve to keep audience engagedThe Bachelor franchise could benefit from being more fun and less formulaic, and individuals should focus on personal growth before seeking certain experiences.

The Bachelor franchise, as it currently stands, may need to evolve to keep up with the changing times and the evolving interests of its audience. The speaker, who has had experience with the show, feels that it has become stagnant and lacks excitement. He suggests that the production could be made more fun and less formulaic. Additionally, the speaker shares his personal journey from working in construction to building a business and brand for himself. He emphasizes the importance of focusing on personal growth and accomplishing goals before seeking certain experiences, such as appearing on a reality TV show. When it comes to his modeling career, the speaker acknowledges that he has been able to charge significant fees due to the exposure and opportunities gained from the Bachelor experience. However, he also emphasizes the importance of being selective and growing his brand beyond the show.

    • Carefully considering career moves and building a solid foundationSuccessful individuals strategically plan their careers, let go of misaligned agents, and maintain control to maximize potential benefits of high-profile opportunities.

Successful individuals, like the person we've been discussing, carefully consider their career moves and focus on building their personal brand and business empire before jumping into high-profile opportunities, such as reality TV shows. This strategy allows them to maximize the potential benefits of these opportunities by having a solid foundation in place. The individual shared their experience of letting go of agents who didn't align with their goals and values. They emphasized the importance of having control over one's career and not settling for less than ideal situations. Additionally, they acknowledged the potential challenges of balancing personal life and career, but viewed it as an opportunity to elevate their brand rather than a threat. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of strategic planning and self-determination in achieving success.

    • Seizing opportunities and forming strategic partnershipsNegotiating for a percentage of bar sales and investing in struggling businesses led to significant income boosts and expansion opportunities

Building an empire requires seizing opportunities and forming strategic partnerships. During an event, the speaker discovered he could negotiate for a percentage of bar sales, leading to a significant income boost. Later, he formed a social contract to become a partner in a struggling smoothie store, investing just $200 for a 40% stake. The store's sales skyrocketed, and they made their investment back within a year. Inspired, the speaker bought a second store and put a friend in charge. They split the profits 50-50, with the speaker providing the initial investment and his friend paying it back over time. These quick wins allowed the speaker to expand his business and build his empire, starting with three restaurants and three franchisees.

    • Finding the balance between financial success and personal happinessRecognizing the unique relationship between income and happiness is crucial, and self-awareness and introspection can help individuals find a balance between their career and personal satisfaction.

Understanding what brings you both financial success and personal happiness is crucial. The speaker shared her unique journey of finding success in various areas, from reality TV appearances to construction, and how they impacted her income and happiness differently. She emphasized the importance of recognizing this relationship and striving for a balance. Her experience also underscores the value of self-awareness and introspection, as she discovered that while modeling and TV work brought significant income, her true happiness came from challenges like construction projects. This realization can serve as a valuable lesson for individuals seeking to find a balance between their career and personal satisfaction.

    • Tyler Cameron's New Venture: Construction Company for Sustainable GrowthTyler Cameron aims to establish a construction company for sustainable growth and financial security, focusing on spec homes for potentially high returns but with significant investment and risks.

Tyler Cameron, after building a successful franchise business and considering expanding into real estate, is looking to establish a construction company to ensure sustainable growth and financial security. He is currently under pressure due to the overhead costs and the desire to bring his brother into the business. The construction industry presents an opportunity for potentially high returns, particularly in the form of spec homes, which involve buying land, building a house, and selling it for a profit. However, this business model comes with risks and requires significant investment and management. For consumers looking to buy a spec house, it's essential to understand that they will pay a premium for a brand new, customizable home. The process involves selecting finishes and fixtures, which adds to the cost but also provides the benefit of moving into a home that is ready to live in. When buying a spec house, it's crucial to consider the potential for customization and the associated premium.

    • The importance of taking calculated risks in investmentsMissing opportunities due to fear can cost over $1 million, while careful budgeting and quality investments can lead to significant returns.

When it comes to investments, whether it's real estate, business, or personal finances, taking calculated risks is crucial for growth and potential financial gains. The speaker shared an example of a missed opportunity worth over $1 million due to fear and uncertainty, emphasizing the importance of seizing opportunities and learning from experiences. Additionally, the speaker warned against the dangers of credit card debt and encouraged diligence and careful budgeting. Lastly, the speaker mentioned the importance of quality investments, whether it's in home renovations or brand collaborations, and the potential for significant returns when taking calculated risks.

    • Tyler Cameron's Business Successes and Future PlansTyler Cameron, inspired by Jay's work ethic, continues to hustle and build an empire in Jupiter, inspiring others with his diverse experiences and future projects.

Tyler Cameron has had numerous successful business deals, including a book deal and a 250 dollar deal requiring the purchase of his books for fans. He aims to build an empire in Jupiter and is excited about the next few years as he has many projects in the works. The most impactful advice he's received came from Jay, who he admires for his work ethic and ability to make him think. People may underestimate Tyler's hustle and diverse range of experiences, but his goal is to inspire and motivate those around him. Despite misconceptions, he is focused on his future and creating opportunities for others.

    • Embracing self-belief and happinessIgnore negativity, focus on happiness, and believe in oneself for personal growth and success. Make every moment count and pursue goals.

Believing in oneself and living life to the fullest are essential for personal growth and success, according to Tyler Cameron. He emphasized the importance of ignoring negative opinions and focusing on happiness and self-belief. Cameron also highlighted the fragility of life and encouraged people to pursue their goals and make every moment count. He shared his experiences and advice on career navigation, financial management, and overcoming self-doubt. While he didn't provide a specific trading secret, he emphasized the importance of finding a balance between what makes us happy and what makes us money. Cameron also mentioned his charitable work and encouraged listeners to support his foundation, which helps provide college tuition for kids. Overall, Cameron's message was one of positivity, self-belief, and living life to the fullest.

    • Personal stories of financial struggles from successful peopleSuccessful individuals may benefit from financial expertise and trusted advisors, regardless of their public image or personal wealth.

Successful people, even those in the public eye, can struggle with financial literacy and management. Tyler Cameron, a well-known celebrity, shared his personal experience of having limited financial resources despite his public image of wealth and success. This illustrates the importance of having experts and trusted advisors to help manage finances and focus on individual strengths. The Trading Secrets podcast aims to provide valuable insights and business advice while also sharing personal stories, making it an attractive platform for high-profile guests. The conversation with Tyler Cameron not only offered business insights but also served as a reminder that financial expertise is not a prerequisite for success in other areas of life.

    • Tyler's Impressive Creativity and DeterminationTyler showcases creativity, financial acumen, and determination, overcoming challenges and bringing innovative ideas to life.

Tyler Cameron, despite some communication misunderstandings, showcases impressive creativity, understanding of brand value, and determination. During a conversation, he revealed his ability to come up with innovative ideas and make them happen, such as a current project he initiated and brought to fruition. Additionally, his transformation from having no credit card to managing significant financial assets demonstrates his financial acumen. However, the conversation also highlighted some challenging experiences, like sending personal photos to strangers and encountering inappropriate requests. It's essential to trust your intuition and not tolerate toxic or inappropriate situations. Another remarkable aspect was Tyler's capability to build a house by himself, which showcased his determination and project management skills. Despite his limitations in hands-on construction, his understanding of costs, managing schedules, and keeping people accountable made a significant impact.

    • Being a big fish in a smaller pond can benefit entrepreneursRecognizing opportunities in smaller markets and having a solid business plan, strong brand, and proven record can lead to growth for entrepreneurs, except in industries with high failure rates where additional efforts are necessary

Sometimes, it's beneficial to be a big fish in a smaller pond, especially when it comes to building something for oneself. Tyler Cameron, for instance, recognized the opportunity to grow and establish his empire in a smaller market before venturing into the bigger scene. However, there are exceptions, like in the case of entrepreneurs in industries with high failure rates, such as the restaurant business, where a third of restaurants go bankrupt, and only a small percentage truly succeed. In such situations, it's crucial to have a solid business plan, a strong brand, and a proven track record to attract investors and secure funding. Overall, understanding the context and unique challenges of one's industry and environment is essential for making informed decisions and maximizing growth opportunities.

    • Exploring Alternative Ways to Raise Capital for BusinessesBusinesses can consider various options like SBA loans, bootstrapping, crowdfunding, angel investing, friends & family, venture capital, or buying a speculative house to raise capital.

There are various ways to raise capital for a business, especially for those who don't qualify for traditional business loans. Business loans, while the cheapest option, require a high level of credibility and historical performance. SBA loans, which are government-backed, can help small businesses secure loans with extensive experience and meeting certain criteria. Bootstrapping, or using personal funds, is another option. Crowdfunding, such as GoFundMe, allows businesses to put their projects out there and get funded by the public in return for access or impact. Angel investing involves high-risk, high-growth opportunities with wealthy investors. Friends, family, and networks can also be a source of funding. Lastly, venture capital and accelerators are more sophisticated options for businesses looking to scale. A speculative house, or spec home, is a new house built by a builder with the expectation of selling it for a profit. The best time for consumers to buy a spec home is during a housing market deficit when builders have invested heavily and are struggling to sell.

    • Lessons from a Successful Investor's JourneySuccess comes from a combination of hard work, smart decisions, and a positive mindset. Entering the market during times of low supply and high demand can lead to better deals. Instagram can be a powerful tool for building self-confidence and networking. Don't self-sabotage and take calculated risks.

Successful investors like Tyler, who entered the market during times of low supply and high demand, are more likely to secure better deals. Tyler's story, filled with authenticity and valuable insights, emphasized the importance of taking risks and avoiding self-sabotage. During our conversation, I was surprised by his humility and relatable nature, which stood out among the many high-profile celebrities he's met. His advice about Instagram and the importance of self-confidence left a lasting impression. Overall, Tyler's episode was a reminder that success comes from a combination of hard work, smart decisions, and a positive mindset. 173.  Joey Graziadei & Kelsey Anderson, Bachelor Nation’s newly engaged couple reveal the $$$ behind their careers pre show, navigating the spotlight, and making major moves professionally and personally
    Episode Description:
This week, Jason is joined by Bachelor Nation’s newly engaged couple and fan favorites Joey Graziadei and Kelsey Anderson!

Joey walked away from his lead role on The Bachelor this past season after asking Kelsey to marry him. Since their season wrapped, Joey and Kelsey have spent their time traveling and spending as much time together as an engaged couple. Having come from two different career paths and geographical locations (Joey a tennis pro in Hawaii and Kelsey a project manager in New Orleans), they are now faced with the deciding factor of what is next for them personally and professionally.

Joey and Kelsey reflect on meeting fans at CMAfest and their impact on their audience, what goes into teaching tennis, where they saw their careers going prior to the show, how Kelsey and Joey ended up on the show, what role Jason played in Joey’s journey, and having important conversations in the fantasy suite. Kelsey and Joey also dive into the decision for Joey to move in with Kelsey in New Orleans, where they see their careers moving post show, discussing the influencer space and navigating other people being worried about their finances, and a few rapid fire questions. How many times has Kelsey been nominated for The Bachelor? Where do they plan on moving after the lease ends? What other reality show would they love to do?

Kelsey & Joey reveal all that and so much more in another episode you can’t afford to miss!

    Host: Jason Tartick
    Co-Host: David Arduin
    Audio: John Gurney

S1 E8: Jo Malone: From a London council estate to fragrance pioneer

Jo Malone’s name is synonymous with luxury, but Jo didn’t grow up with wealth. She was raised on a council estate in South East London and left school without any qualifications. Jo built the luxury fragrance brand Jo Malone London with her husband, Gary, and sold the company in 1999 to Estee Lauder. She left the business a few years later, after she was diagnosed with an aggressive form of breast cancer and was given only 9 months to live. As part of the Lauder deal, she wasn’t allowed to enter the industry for 5 years. Jo felt utterly lost, so she started a new brand, Jo Loves. Jo is so honest in this episode and tells me about the mistakes she made building her second company, after the huge success of the first.
