This episode of Color and Sound is an audio journey made from some of the audio "footage" that I've been collecting over the past year or so in and around San Francisco. I'm impressed with the diversity of culture and influences that can be heard when walking around the city. As well, there are a full range of modern, mechanical, and natural organic things to be heard. Some of the clips include: a man named Fagoni from Mali playing what sounds like a Koura in the BART station; chinese drum parade and firecrackers during the Chinese New Year; jazz in North Beach; and the lull of waves from Aquatic Park. HELLO EVERYONE!! HELLA GIMMIX SAY WHAT!?! A LIGHT AT THE END BY JHOUSE!! On this episode of A Light at The End, I just put together a bunch of tracks that I've been feeling over the last couple months. There is a strong hip hop vibe throughout, but that morphs and evolves from older funk and r+b roots to more grimy, hard-hittin dubsteppa vibes. Some of my favorites on this one include work from Jamie XX w/ Gil Scott Heron. Absolutely modern classic spoken word over some very upfront beats. Great work there. I also love The Shakedown remixes (one by Dj Bonebookbang and the other by Dogtanian) and the Blunted Monkz remix of Can Show you the Way. I think you'll love the variety and have a chance to go through to the other side. I know there's a ton of crazy stuff goin on in our world, but take a moment w/ me to be thankful for the opportunities all around us for new birth and loving creativity. So, for this episode of Color and Sound I invited my friend Edward to bring me a collection of tracks that I would mix and blend together in a special hella gimmix kinda way. I tried not to stall too long or worry about the outcome too much. We decided on a loose order and I kinda improvised a bit along the way ;). This mix goes deep at some points w/ some very minor melodies but still keeps tons of forward motion and great drums with lots of tempo changes throughout. A blend of rock, hard electro, dubstep, experimental electronica, indie future get your work on! Trust me on this one, and see the sounds in a vivid color! Hello to all of the music listeners everywhere! HELLA GIMMIX SAY WHAT !?! So, I decided to do something a little different this time around after being inspired by a friend of mine to think about this topic: A Soundtrack to Your Life. I really liked the idea and began connecting it to certain songs or feelings in music and how they corresponded to different times or feelings in my life. For this particular episode, I just put together a bunch of tracks from different artists that I felt were "Classic" in some way. Either what they represented for music overall, or what it represented for me personally. I did the mix one time through with no preconceived mix sequence. What you get is a raw blend of some of the best music I've heard to date. Clearly, I could not capture perfectly all of the ideas and influences that make up the story of my life from a musical perspective, in just this one take. I at least have one more hour if I were to make a soundtrack for a "standard" movie and to be honest, I hope this life is more than just standard. ;) So, we'll see what comes out in a future session where I help you and I to discover the music for The Soundtracks to Our Lives.
