"God's transforming work in our hearts and lives is fueled by prayer. True prayer resists self-centeredness by cultivating God-centeredness on a personal and community level. On a personal level, Jesus charges us to know him that way and cherish him that way by seeking him in private prayer. On a community level, we are charged to be united in prayer, and increasing embrace our calling to be a church that prays. Our entire prayer life is guided by the pattern for prayer that Jesus gives us, commonly known as the Lord's Prayer. This pattern emphasizes that God wants prayer to be a regular part of our lives. It also teaches us to put God first and to bring to him our daily and spiritual needs in trust."
