Melissa‘s Identity Crisis. (Is she really a 7?)

A month ago, I started meeting with a new enneagram coach. She starts all of her clients with a very thorough typing session. So, as standard proceedure, she did a two hour typing session with me.

At the end of the session she said, "I don't think you're a Type 7." ...insert internal scream....

    (And.. she was right.)

Kristen Rushton (Type 9): Sturdy Comfort and the Energetic Self

Kristen Rushton (Type 9): Sturdy Comfort and the Energetic Self

We are back with another Type Interview!

Kristen is a Type 9. She has done her Enneagram work, and she has so much wisdom to share!

She shares about the following things:

Waking up to her anger and how that has helped her connect with God.

The sturdy comfort of coming home to her body, and discovering what's true there.

How that place of truth and integrity has helped her connect with the power of her most energetic self.

How the church colluded with her ego in a way that kept her meek and small.

How staying with conflict has helped her invest in real relationship and problem solving.

    What is my ego fixation?

Why is it so hard to let it go?

What will I lose by letting go of my attachment?

Today Jared and Melissa answer a question from a listener:

"I'm beginning to become aware of my patterns, but I can't change them. Why is this so hard?"

Today we discuss our ego fixations, letting go of control, and the humble willingness it takes to become new.

Thanks so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy this episode.

Aubrey Chaves (Type 2): Death of the False Self

Aubrey Chaves (Type 2): Death of the False Self

Today our guest is Aubrey Chaves.

    Aubrey is an Enneagram 2.

Just as a refresher, The Enneagram Two is called the Helper. They need to be needed and liked. They are naturally helpful and accommodating, but struggle with feeling unwanted, unworthy or unloved.

Aubrey’s enneagram journey coincided with a painful crisis of faith.

She talks about deconstructing her ideas about a God who is constantly disappointed with her, and rediscovering a God that loves her unconditionally.

Aubrey talks about shame getting mixed into her faith, death of the false self, and discovering God through really truly knowing herself.

She also gives really useful advice for 2s struggling to figure out what is their to do.

Also, Aubrey and her husband Tim are cohosts for the podcast Faith Matters. Their podcast has been a really valuable resource for me for years now, so definitely check it out.

Thanks so much for listening, and we hope you enjoy his episode.

Brenna Kimber (Enneagram 6): Seeking a New Kind of Safety

We have another interview for you today with my friend, Brenna Kimber.

Brenna is a six on the enneagram.

As a quick reminder an Enneagram six is called the loyal skeptic. They are responsible, group minded, and very loyal. They also tend to struggle with trusting themselves and other people, and this  can cause some anxiety and hyper vigilance, and thinking of in terms of worst case scenarios.

Brenna is someone who has used the enneagram for deep inner work, and I’m so excited for you to learn from her today.

She talks about her search for safety, her pattern of externalizing authority, and learning to surrender and live her life without a plan and from a more embodied place.

As always, thanks for listening, and we hope you enjoy this episode.

    Faith Crisis and the Enneagram

    Faith Crisis and the Enneagram

    Melissa here.

As I’ve been working as a coach, I’ve noticed a lot of people struggling with their faith. Some people experience this as a crisis, others are experiencing  new questions or doubts, others have family members who are having a painful experience in the church and it’s making church hard.

I’ve noticed some patterns when in comes to enneagram types, and going through some kind of faith shift.

I am seeing how our personality structure- or our ego- can help or hurt the process.

Today, with Jared’s help, I wanted to share what I’m noticing and help you be aware of what to look out for if you’re going through a faith crisis.

Today we go through all 9 types and discuss what things in church can potentially trigger an ego response, and ways your ego might automatically protect itself.

We also give some tips that can help you as you navigate a faith shift.

    Thanks for listening!

    Jared Gets Coached!

    Jared Gets Coached!

The number one question we have been getting from folks is “how do I learn to be embodied?”

Today we thought we would show you how we practice embodiment in a coaching session.

Jared volunteered to be coached today. Enneagram Fives tend to be the most private type on the Enneagram, so this is a very rare and special treat.
