Welcome back to the Monday Afternoon Movie! Sam's return to horror continues with this 1975 episode of ABC's Wide World of Mystery that features the premiere of the one and only Kate Mulgrew. Here to probe into this 70's television masterpiece is none other than drag queen, activist, actor and Drag Race veteran Nina West, aka Andrew Levitt.

A lonely teen struggles emotionally after the loss of her parents and begins a strange amorous relationship with a man named Marc that lives inside of a television. Is this a harmless prank? A psychotic break? A real alien from another planet? Find out now with Sam and Nina.

Let the new season of horror begin! Sam Pancake is here in the new year to get back to the Monday Afternoon Movie roots, which is all that is shocking and scary and sometimes ridiculous. He's asked actor and now returning guest Alec Mapa to sit down with him to watch the 1972 film THE PEOPLE, starring William Shatner, Kim Darby, and Diane Varsi. 

A school teacher takes a job teaching at a very rural school where she discovers that the locals adhere to very strict rules regarding their society as well as their children. Is there more to this town than isn't easily visible? Is the new school teacher in danger? Will doctor/veterinarian Willam Shatner have to save the day? Will we all have a newly discovered love of the sweet sounds of the harmonica?

OMG OMG OMG Bruce Vilanch!

Okay, now that that is out of the way... Part two of the Monday Afternoon Movie holiday special has arrived, and it has brought with it not frankincense and myrrh, but definitely two wise men in Sam Pancake and THE legendary Bruce Vilanch. We just had to include him in any conversation revolving around the Star Wars holiday special as he was one of the writers of this "timeless" classic. 😉 Bruce also touches on some of the other greatest hits of his career, such as Mahogany, The Paul Lynde Halloween Special, and a plethora of 1970s and 1980s television variety shows with Donnie and Marie and the Brady Bunch. It wouldn't quite feel like the holidays without a Monday Afternoon Movie holiday special. For that special, why not cover the infamous pinnacle of all holiday variety shows, The Star Wars Holiday Special?! The whole crew is begrudgingly and contractually back to bring a truly forgettable viewing experience to your late 1970's television sets. Mark Hamill is here as Luke Skywalker, Harrison Ford is back as Han Solo, and everyone's favorite space Mom Carrie Fisher is back as Princess Leia Organa. Unfortunately, they are not the main characters in any way. That title would belong to Lumpy & Itchy, the family of Chewbacca, who spend large portions of the movie grunting away  about Life Day without the assisitance of subtitles. Then, just for fun, toss in a bevy of celebrity guests like Bea Arthur, Harvey Korman, Art Carney, Dihann Carroll, and Jefferson Starship. If you're a Star Wars fan and you've never seen it, you really should at least once... okay, maybe not.

Ok y’all- for my Halloween episode(s) this year, I decided to take us on a trip to that fated Dutch Colonial Mansard-Roofed House of Horror with the Glowing Demonic Window/Eyes. I had never seen the fourth installment and first TVM iteration of the frenetic “Amityville Horror” franchise, 1989’s AMITYVILLE HORROR: THE EVIL ESCAPES aka AMITYVILLE 4: THE EVIL ESCAPES aka A HIDEOUS GAY LAMP IS KILLING MY FAMILY.

Y’all. Y’all!??! Y’ALL. The good news is that you can watch this jaw-dropper most anywhere: Tubi, Plex, Pluto, FreeVee, AMC+, Roku, YouTube, the CVS app, in the settings dial of a new Whirlpool dryer, if you stare long enough into a slightly spoiled container of macaroni salad from that questionable snack kiosk at the airport. The better news is that it is one of the most ridiculously hilarious, nonsensically kookoo-boots “movies” I’ve ever had the pleasure of covering on the pod. The best news: my guest is the delightful and deeply knowledgeable cutie- smartie Joshua Tonks, who I was a big fan of from my fave scary movie podcasts from the UK, “Evolution of Horror” and “Brain Rot.” Luckily he was here in LA visiting from London this week and I snagged him in person for my 🎃 special! Yeehaw!

His friends follow the clues he's left behind, Scooby Doo style, leading to our climactic finale in the heart of New York City.

You will definitely want to watch this one, if only for the amazing 80's sweaters on display.
