    About this Episode

Amelia Island. Just South of the Georgia border and a beautiful beach island to escape too. Lots of beach access points, rentals, restaurants, and history. I really enjoyed myself exploring the island.

Here I'm at the beach at 6:15 am and just hanging out with a few adventurous souls who come to the beach to experience sunrise. The waves were that "FLAP" style with just a little rolling up on the shore. The birds were out, just not too many this morning.

What I've noticed in editing some of these audio files to remove the various people making noises, is how relaxing the waves are, it's just a tad tough staying focused and awake. Oh well, I guess that's the point?

    Enjoy!

In the Pisgah National Forest, one is surrounded by a thick forest in the mountains of North Carolina. Early in the morning after leaving Sliding Rock, the road pretty much followed water for miles as various streams added to the flow.

Just down the road from Sliding Rock, I found this nice medium size flow of water as it wound it's way down the canyon. Fortunately, in this area was a picnic table for anyone to relax and enjoy the flowing water.

Flowing water, like a good size water fall usually ends up being more of a white noise experience. Something like this flow, with a few small drops, in a canyon, while details are often hard to come by (you know that "gurgling" sound), I find these closer to Brown Noise.

So, check out the video and soundscape for yourself, and see where it works best for you. Enjoy!

Sliding Rock Falls PC 60 min

Sliding Rock Falls PC 60 min

In the Asheville area there is an abundance of waterfalls and waterways. So, I began early one morning and made my way to Sliding Rock. Typically, during warm days you'll find hundreds of people sliding down this rock face into an 8 foot pool below. The drop is about 80 feet. I can just hear the younger kids screaming all the way down.

As I arrived early with the temp about 60 degrees, I had the place to myself. It's fascinating watching the water almost snake side to side as it runs down the face of the rock. The question is... is it just a rock? or a waterfall?  Definitely something different with the visual and the sounds creating an almost hypnotic experience.

I hope you enjoy this experience and maybe find access to some faraway place...

Driftwood Beach Waves, Jekyll Island PC 60 min

Driftwood Beach Waves, Jekyll Island PC 60 min

While heading back to Florida along I95, I realized that on my previous trip to Jekyll Island in Georgia, I didn't make it to Driftwood Beach. So, I figured it was time to rectify that. I arrived late morning and found my way thru the woods and down to the breach.

Now this is a seriously cool spot. Besides a few fallen large tree trunks, there was a literal "forest" of driftwood trees along the beach. On the water were LOTS of rocks so this made for a definitely not normal beach experience.

After placing the audio recorder near the surf in the rocks, I filmed both a set of trees against a blue sky as well as the waves coming in over the rocks and boulders. What a day!

After driving from Asheville in North Carolina, I just slumped into my beach chair for about an hour soaking up the sun.

Now this... was a rest stop! I hope you enjoy this little bit different beach wave experience!

Cascade Creek, Lower Falls PC 60 min

Cascade Creek, Lower Falls PC 60 min

On the road to Asheville, North Carolina I stopped in Hanging Rock State Park just North of Winston Salem. Since I was only about an hour North of Winston-Salem, I started the day early to hike down to Cascade Falls on Cascade creek in Hanging Rock State Park. While tis was a fairly decent hike, the last part down to the falls was LOTS of steps... made from both wood and rocks.

Arriving at the falls there were two areas of interest. The Falls themselves, and as the water was leaving the pool below the falls a wonderful small cascade  as it continued back into the creek.

Here we have the waterfall itself as it falls into the pool. On a hot day I'm told the pool would be full of people. Luckily, today I arrived before the crowds.

I hope you find these cascades a relaxing as I do... Enjoy!

Ridgeline Above Sandstone Falls PC 60 min

Ridgeline Above Sandstone Falls PC 60 min

It's late May in Minnesota,  it's about 45 degrees out with a beautiful blue sky. On this morning I'm visiting three different waterfalls along the Rock River Basin between Bessemer and Lake Superior.

The fist falls I visited were the closest to lake Superior and were called Rainbow Falls. The river flows along a canyon / basin and the hike to get to Rainbow Falls was steep with LOTS of stairs... Once I got to the bottom, the view of the falls was immediate. The visual "Being There" video is up close and personal. The audio has that massive amount of water flowing over the falls sound. More like white or brown noise with just enough water sounds apparent.

The second waterfall I checked out were called Sandstone Falls. OK, after walking up the stairs from Rainbow Falls, the thought of going down once more to these falls, seemed physically daunting. So I found a spot along the ridge where I could get a glimpse of the water rushing thru some trees and got both the audio from Rainbow Falls just down the river, and Sandstone Falls just below the ridgeline. Also captured some birds starting their day as well.

The third waterfall I visited was Potawatomi Falls and here we get to experience the split falls as the water cascades down into a gorge before again dropping into Gorge Falls.  Luckily for me, the trail was relatively flat with just a few sections of stairs. Again, this remote site was just stunning!

I hope you enjoy these Audio Soundscapes of the three different falls as they are great examples of Brown and White noise experiences with just a few unique sounds.

Nighttime Forest, Asheville - PC 60 min

Nighttime Forest, Asheville - PC 60 min

Nighttime sounds are always interesting. I remember my first-time camping with my dad when I was probably 7-8. It was a basic canvas tent right on the grass, and the sounds in the night were initially, well, scary. Of course, it started to rain and canvas can be known to leak, and grass gets wet and muddy…  Over time, as I grew older, the nighttime sounds became calming… Really.

Now, once in the Boundary Waters area between Minnesota and Canada, on a small island, we were surprised in camp by two bear cubs… needless to say we were a little nervous as momma was somewhere out there. But aside from that one experience, I really do love the sounds of a forest at night. Especially thru an open window in a cabin!

So, tonight I’m at a friend’s house in the Asheville, NC Foothills and the sounds are magical. These sounds put me right out. I actually needed to set an alarm to wake up and stop recording. For this video I started filming a bit before sunset to give you an idea of this location as late at night the video would basically be black.

Ready for sleep? Need some nature to breath too? Well, here ya go. Enjoy, and we’ll see you in the morning!

Holiday Fireplace -2021 PC 60 min

Holiday Fireplace -2021 PC 60 min

In the rolling hills of Northeast Oklahoma is the Osage Hills State Park. Over 1,000 acres of getting away… with trails, a lake, river, waterfall, swimming pool and multiple camping options. One of the options are 8 stone cabins built by the Civilian Conservation Corps in the 1930’s. I stayed in one of those classic 8 cabins. Arriving at the cabin I was transported back in time to the cabins of my childhood when we would go on family vacations to the lake.

I’ve been hoping to film a fireplace before the Holidays and in November I got to do so. In this classic cabin, I relaxed (definition: laying on the sofa) in front of the fire after 4 long days of driving and filming on my trip from Sonoma County to Florida. So, as you are celebrating with family, friends, or just relaxing by yourself stringing popcorn for the tree… enjoy the fire!
