    About this Episode

Welcome to the Your Voice Here Podcast - a podcast all about helping budding radio presenters, podcasters and voice over artists get their voices heard.

This week, we discuss radio presenting with our guest, BBC Journalist and Radio Presenter Steph Watkins

Steph Watkins is a Presenter and Producer for the Mid Morning Show on BBC Radio Guernsey. After years of trying to cut it as a performer in London, it took a global pandemic (and for the world to stop) to make her assess the direction that she wanted to continue with. Now jobless and having had to move back to her parent’s house, she by chance found a place in community radio and never looked back.

Since then, she’s gone on to work at the BBC, firstly in Salford for Children’s and Education, and then coming back into radio with a move to Guernsey in the summer of 2022, where she started out as a journalist. Steph soon was given opportunities to cover for shows, and has recently been appointed into her new role which she can’t wait to start.

In this episode of Your Voice Here, we discuss:

    - The importance of community radio

    - What good community radio should be about

    - How to connect with other radio presenters

    - How to approach radio stations about presenter roles

    - The art of patience

Welcome to the Your Voice Here Podcast - a podcast all about helping people get heard.

This week, we are discussing breaking stereotypes and making changes to what it means to be a girl with entrepreneur and Co-Founder of Festival of the Girl - Abi Wright

    About Festival of the Girl

Festival of The Girl is a not-for-profit initiative that aims to inspire and engage girls aged 7 - 11 years and support adults to raise girls in a less stereotyped way.

We exist because we want to change what it means to be a girl.

We want to remove the limitations gender stereotypes place on girls.  And we want to start this conversation with primary school aged kids, and they’re grown-ups.

We've created global interactive events to give girls access to an incredible line up of female role models, workshops and activities that they can't always get at school.  Our festivals are safe environments for girls to have fun, try something new, and most importantly; leave with a boost of self confidence.

Our main annual event takes place every October coinciding with UN's International Day of the Girl Child.  We explore a huge variety of topics from careers, to body positivity, to mental health and sustainability.

    About Abi Wright
Abi is Co-Founder of Festival of The Girl, along with Founder and Director of She Stands and Co-Founder and Director of Arrive in Politics

She Stands is a movement founded on the idea that girls and women should never have to apologise for taking up space. They raise awareness around the impacts of gender stereotyping on posture and create trainings to shape https://www.festivalofthegirl.com/a more gender equal society. The mission is for females to grow up feeling at home in their bodies with the confidence to stand tall and own their space - from young girls in schools to women in the workplace.

Understanding that there is still so much to be done to create an equal society Abi co-founded Arrive in Politics in 2021. A non-partisan collaboration committed to closing the political gender gap they’ve created a mentorship programme for young women who want to begin or advance their career in politics.

Inspired by her daughters, Margot and Nancy, Abi hopes Festival of The Girl, She Stands and Arrive in Politics can create genuine change so that all children can grow and develop surrounded by strong role models in a world that supports and nourishes them.
