Blaque Roots
About this Episode
The group name, ‘Blaque Roots’, signifies the music marriage between the Warrior, Visionary, Engineer Mic Blaque and
the Revolutionary, Temptress, and Educator Nakeeba Amaniyea (Roots) as they come together on a parallel journey of
Black Freedom rooted in the power of the past and forging with fortitude forward on a path to transfer knowledge and
wealth to generations to come. ‘Blaque Roots’ as a distinction has a variety of other significances as well; varying from a
high degree of intricacy such as the duo’s unified mission to stimulate the ascension of the mindset of our people to the
simple bond of their shared Jamaican roots.
‘Blaque Roots’ music is a culture collective of sounds and genres infused with Black love, joy, and triumph. These
elements are all acts of rebellion within the war for freedom we’ve unceasingly waged over time and the explosion we
are in the midst of currently, which makes it timely, relevant, futuristic and nostalgic. In the spirit of Sankofa, ‘Blaque
Roots’ is reaching back for the strength, ingenuity, and innovation of the past to write the soundtrack that projects us
into our abundant future.
