Blue is the New White #124 - Austin Peterson, Backbone Planning Partners

    enJuly 29, 2022

    About this Episode

Today, we have a returning guest to the show. Austin Peterson of Backbone Planning Partners. Austin came on BITNW about 2 and half years ago, and was one of my first guests when we were just getting started.

He had a lot of great information then about growing up in a blue collar space, and him choosing the white collar route. It was a really great perspective on the right education for the right individual – and that everybody defines success in their own way.

So, we have him BACK on the show today 2 and half years later. We dive into his business Backbone Planning Partners and some of the businesses that he’s helped, how he’s helped them and really focusing in on what separates blue collar business owners from other business owners and what they need to keep in mind when looking to grow the business, leave it to family, or sell it all together. However they are looking to transition, there are often important things that get missed.

Most of us did it the same way – we were good at something, we had a skill and we monetized that skill. We did it all on our own so we could be our own boss, make a little more money, then all of the sudden we had a nice big business on our hands and we had to figure out what to do with it. So, Austin is here today to talk all about THAT.

Don’t forget to subscribe to this channel, and on our website blueisthenewwhite.com to receive all the latest updates. As always, this show is not monetized & we don’t run ads. We rely strictly on the word of mouth from our listeners to further the mission. So if you enjoyed this episode, please take a moment to rate, review, and share. The future generations of tradespeople depend on it. On you! So thank you again and enjoy this episode of Blue is the New White with Austin Peterson.

Blue Is The New White: Episode #158

Today we welcome BACK to the show Mr Ryan Englin with Core Matters.

From Wanderlust to Industry Trailblazer: Danielle Putnam's Entrepreneurial Journey

Blue Is The New White: Episode #155

Today’s guest is a hell of an entrepreneur. And actually knew that’s what she wanted to be since she was just a kid. Danielle Putnam, president of The New Flat Rate, joins us today to talk about her journey to get to where she is today.

From a long line of trade professionals, Danielle was no stranger to the world of work. Just after high school she joined a company that took her to 25 different countries leading their marketing efforts. Then she went to work with her dad at his home service business before jetting off to Portland for school. She got involved with a startup, lived her dream of setting foot on the NY stock exchange, and then moved back again to help her dad.

That’s when the new flat rate was born, a menu pricing system for home service contractors. Since then she has begun to offer Freedom Builders, a ride along & coaching program. Got involved with Trade Jobs to help fill the skilled trades gap (launching in October). And sits on the advisory board for Women in HVACR.
