    Asbestos - History & Risks

    Asbestos - History & Risks

Asbestos is a group of six naturally occurring minerals made up of heat-resistant fibers. It was used in thousands of U.S. consumer products before the dangers of asbestos were known. Asbestos causes mesothelioma, lung cancer and other cancers. Asbestos is regulated in the U.S., but not banned.

Asbestos has been with us since the 1800s but wasn't regulated until after it impacted lives for nearly 100 years. There are still legacy exposure risks in certain career fields and residential situations.

"We The People" - Who Does it Serve?

"We The People" - Who Does it Serve?

Is it 1776 or 2022? Does the United States Constitution really fit in our current world? Are we prepared to go back to white christian men owning everything and everyone? Is that what the "God" in the motto "IN GOD WE TRUST" would like us to do? Weren't men and women created equal? Don't we all have the right to life, liberty, and the pursuit of happiness? At what point do you get to define someone else's happiness?

    "Don't Say Gay" - Erasing LGBTQI+ People

    "Don't Say Gay" - Erasing LGBTQI+ People

Florida's HB 1557, also known as the 'Don't Say Gay' bill, should never have passed and should never have been signed into law

Public school teachers in Florida are banned from holding classroom instruction about sexual orientation or gender identity after Florida's Gov. Ron DeSantis, a Republican, signed the controversial "Parental Rights in Education" bill.

The law states: "Classroom instruction by school personnel or third parties on sexual orientation or gender identity may not occur in kindergarten through grade 3 or in a manner that is not age appropriate or developmentally appropriate for students in accordance with state standards." Parents would be able to sue districts over violations.

DeSantis said teaching kindergarten-aged kids that "they can be whatever they want to be" was "inappropriate" for children.

DeSantis and other Republicans have repeatedly described the rules as reasonable, saying children should learn about sexual orientation and gender identity from their parents, not in schools.

"We will make sure that parents can send their kids to school to get an education, not an indoctrination," the governor said when he signed it into law.

    --Legal Challenge--

The challenge filed in federal court in Tallahassee on behalf of Equality Florida and Family Equality alleges that the law violates the constitutionally protected rights of free speech, equal protection and due process of students and families.

"This effort to control young minds through state censorship — and to demean LGBTQ lives by denying their reality — is a grave abuse of power," the lawsuit says.

"The United States Supreme Court has repeatedly affirmed that LGBTQ people and their families are at home in our constitutional order. The State of Florida has no right to declare them outcasts, or to treat their allies as outlaws, by punishing schools where someone dares to affirm their identity and dignity," the lawsuit says.

The law deliberately employs broad terms and invites arbitrary and discriminatory enforcement, empowering parents to be roving censors who can sue school boards for damages based on any perceived violation, the lawsuit adds.

Many critics have said the law's language, particularly the phrases "classroom instruction" and "age appropriate," could be interpreted so broadly that discussion in any grade could trigger lawsuits, creating a classroom atmosphere where teachers would avoid the subjects entirely.

    A Toxic Mindset

    A Toxic Mindset

Have you ever experienced a toxic mindset?
It takes two to tango, Fake it until you make it, It's not worth trying, etc.

Unhealthy or toxic patterns of thinking can develop from trauma, injury, and neglect. Common damaging mindsets include, “I'm always an outsider,” “I have trouble trusting people,” and “Everyone abandons me.” Therapy can disrupt existing thought patterns and help patients make choices that produce healthier outcomes.

Conservatism - A response to Scott Yenor about women in STEM

Conservatism - A response to Scott Yenor about women in STEM

Scott Yenor made some statements about his opposing views towards feminism in America. This man is a college professor who stands against higher education ideals like colleges and universities, yet has personally and financially benefited from such an organization, Boise State University in Boise, ID.

This first clip is from November 01, 2021 and is Scott Yenor's address at the second national conservatism conference.

The second clip is a video response on Scott Yenor's twitter account made on November 30, 2021

Scott Yenor responds to outrage on previous statements

Family is important, but a family cannot exist in today's landscape simply on a prayer or faith. Every person has a purpose. Men can stay at home, women can stay at home, as long as they can afford to do so; keeping a roof over the heads of their loved ones.

Do we deserve a future in support of feminism? Is the lack of COVID-19 health practices part of the desire to purge human life as punishment by the radical conservative christian right?

Perhaps the lack of confidence in the future is the reckless re-population of this planet? The unchecked proliferation of natural and finite resources?

"Soy boys" a slang phrase to call plant-based and environmentally conscientious men "weak" in the eyes of artery clogged masculine men who are preparing to die prematurely of a massive heart attack; men who are scared to question the old ways and adapt to the knowledge of today and sustainability of tomorrow.

Misogyny is "dislike of, contempt for, or ingrained prejudice against women."

Feminism is "the advocacy of women's rights on the basis of the equality of the sexes."

    Larry Grensing Jr. 1955-2021

    Larry Grensing Jr. 1955-2021

My dad passed away following a 6 year battle against stage 4 congestive heart failure and colon cancer. He outlived the longest timelines of both terminal diagnoses by at least a year.

This episode is a eulogy written by Everett McConnaughey as well as a life sketch written by his sister Neva McConnaughey.

We promise it's uplifting, inspiring, and positive; but it might make you teary.

Contribute to Memorial Park Bench Fund
One thing Larry always requested was that we never mourn where he died but celebrate where he lived. In lieu of flowers, we'd appreciate donations to help with dedicating a park bench in his honor. He loved the mountains and we could not think of a more perfect way to remember him by then creating a spot we can visit and reflect. Location and details to be determined.  https://everloved.com/life-of/larry-grensing/

My Take on Finances - Start Saving Now!

My Take on Finances - Start Saving Now!

Are you living paycheck to paycheck? Does the thought of managing your bills stress you out?

    You're not alone!

Everett wants to share some personal advice that helped him go from $4,000 in credit card debt to 100% debt-free in just 4 years. Not only is Everett debt-free, but he also has enough savings to cover large emergencies and even borrow against that savings for purchases of high-cost items like a new phone.

While Everett is certainly proud of his hard work, he is humble enough to know that not everyone can get the same results on their own, so he wants to share the mindset and thinking that helped yield a positive end goal.

Nearly 50% of the baby boomer generation does not have savings for retirement or emergencies. Everett's late grandfather instilled the wisdom to "invest as much as you can, as early as you can" and that advice has garnered financial stability for Everett and his husband.
