    About this Episode

Do you want to write a book or are you having trouble finding time and motivation to complete your book?

Or… does writing a book seem like a monumental task you can’t even imagine taking on even though one of your goals is to write a book?

A couple months ago, podcaster Lisa Shaughnessy interviewed me about how my book writing process on her podcast, Your Writing Retreat Connection.

I’ve written six books and my seventh book for all types of business owners will be released in 2024. (More information about that book to come about in the coming months.)

Lisa usually limits her interview guests to workshop retreat hosts (which I am not!) but she wanted to offer a fresh perspective for her podcast listeners who prefer writing in solitude, rather than a structured writing retreat with other writers.

You probably don’t know this about me: I wrote 70% of my first book in two 3-day weekends. That’s right, 70% of my first book was written in just 6 days!

In this episode, you’ll hear how I created the perfect environment to spark my creativity and finish most of my first book in two long weekend solo writing retreats.

You’ll also hear me share how writer's block threatened my ability to complete my book and how I changed course to get past my blocks and finish my book.

Listen as Lisa and I discuss how to create a writing process that works best, doing what's right for you, and how and why I’ve written books as part of my business growth strategy.

Mercedes wants to learn how to refine her sales skills, so she has an even better track record when it comes to converting discovery calls into actual clients.

There are some simple but effective ways she can change the sales calls and you’ll learn, alongside Mercedes, how to get new clients through sales calls.

Ep. 54: Fear of Making a Mistake

Rachel has a money-lending company, and she has also owns rental properties.

The challenge Rachel is bringing to this session is she’s wanting to make double the amount from her rentals, (double the current amount), but what quickly becomes clear is that she has a fear of mistake, and also some imposter syndrome, which is keeping her stuck. Her fear also causes her to procrastinate which causes her to feel even more stuck!

High achievers like Rachel often have really big fear too. Rachel’s coaching session is an example of that common entrepreneur challenge.

In this session, you’ll hear us untangle this very common challenge for Rachel and for a lot of entrepreneurs. Buckle up, it’s a wild ride!

    Ep. 53: Transform Perfectionism

    Ep. 53: Transform Perfectionism

This is the second coaching session with Boston software developer and educator, Ebaad, who is orginally from Pakistan.

You’ll hear me work with Ebaad around his perfectionism as it relates to running his business and living his life.

When I reached out to him a few days after the coaching session to ask him to sum up his synopsis of what he gained from this second coaching session, here’s what he wrote:

“Kristin, the sessions with you were really helpful. I have decided to try things, without worrying about how it is received. This has been helpful in getting out of my head. I have also been trying to connect with my past self a little more and connect with him with the strength I have today. I plan to launch my first blog post this week and also my work project in the coming weeks. I am really excited for what the future holds!”

Ep. 52: Childhood Trauma and Compulsive Ambition

Ep. 52: Childhood Trauma and Compulsive Ambition

Today’s coaching session is an unusual one. In this session, I am working with Ebaad who is originally from Pakistan, now in Boston, where he is a software developer and instructor.

In this episode, we unexpectedly explore a topic that is rarely discussed in business circles: childhood trauma and how it can fuel ambition and perfectionism, often to the detriment of the ambitious and high-achieving business owner.

    Ep. 51: Sustainable Success

    Ep. 51: Sustainable Success

This is Stephanie’s third and final coaching session in this episode series.

Her first coaching session is Episode 137 and her second session is Episode 138. If you haven’t already heard the prior sessions, it’s recommended you listen to those before before listening to this, her third and final coaching session. (This episode builds upon those episodes and will make a lot more sense if you’ve listened to those episodes first.)

In this final session with Stephanie, we discuss workaholism and how to create success with grace, ease and joy. How to drop the compulsive hustle and work grind in order to truly enjoy life while still creating sustainable financial success. It IS possible to create a work life that gives you both a happy life and financial abundance! No need to choose one over the other.

As you listen to this coaching session, think about your own life and business and, like Stephanie, you may also gain insight and guidance on how to create a life you love to live as a business owner.

    Ep: 50: Release the Overwhelm

    Ep: 50: Release the Overwhelm

This is Stephanie’s second podcast coaching session. Her first business coaching session on the podcast is Episode 49. If you haven’t already heard her first session, listening to that episode first is rcommended.

Since the first coaching session, Stephanie has stopped spending time on social media since that took so much time and energy away from working on her passion project (the new business venture she discussed in Episode 49).

She’s now only posting on social media when she’s accomplished something in her business! In this way, social media is supporting her to be accountable instead of distracting her from the startup tasks she wants to do to launch her new business.

As we explore what else is taking up her time and energy, we determine three major areas of her life and work right now that are consuming her energy and time: 1) parenting her 5-year-old son, 2) running her dog walking business and 3) teaching at a university.

When she thinks about adding her passion project business to her already-full schedule she feels very overwhelmed.

So, given all that she has going on her life and work, where does she go from here? What does she need to step away from in order to feel less overwhelmed and to focus on what matters most to her?

You’ll find out in this coaching session with Stephanie!

    Ep. 49: Business Pivot

    Ep. 49: Business Pivot

Stephanie has had a dog business for many years. Though she wants to continue growing her business, she also wants to create a new online business that is targeted to pet owners. She is thinking that an online business could be a good “branch” off her current pet business.

She has questions about the logistics of creating an online business and how to balance both an in-person service business with an online business.

At the end of this session, we dive deep into Stephanie’s mindset. She has a profound awareness of how she feels like she never has enough. She also feels like she isn’t doing enough in her business and in her life. You’ll hear more about this in the next coaching session I do with Stephanie in Episode 50, which is focused on Stephanie working on her mindset.

Ep. 48: Convert Website Viewers to Customers

Ep. 48: Convert Website Viewers to Customers

This is my second coaching session with Elliott. You can hear the first coaching session with Elliott on Episode 47. It’s recommended to listen to the earlier session with Elliott before listening to this episode because this sessoin builds upon that episode.

Elliott is a business owner who lives and works in Toronto, Canada.

Elliott is a coach who works with artists, writers and other creatives. He developed an accountability co-working online platform called Project Lab to support creatives with a distraction-free zone to help them stay focused on their artistic projects.

Elliott also incorporates includes mindfulness and freewriting exercises in Project Lab to help creatives dive more fully into their projects and to assist them in leaving distraction behind.

In this second coaching session, Elliott has questions about how to turn interested people into paying customers, how to educate people on what it is he does since he has such an unusual business, how to balance the freebies he gives out to help those interested to experience the value they can get from participating with how to then charge for what it is he’s offering with Project Lab.

    Ep. 47: The Creative Introvert

    Ep. 47: The Creative Introvert

“The world is not designed for you to practice your instrument. It’s designed for you to vegetate, eat bad food, watch CNN, and that’s what our mainstream world is designed for.”

    -Elliott’s guitar teacher

Elliott is a deep, insightful business owner who lives in Toronto. He’s an introvert who is a skillful conversationalist.

There were so many ideas we covered in this coaching session that I decided to work with Elliott again after this for a second session. You’ll find the other session I did with Elliott on Episode 48. It’s recommended that you listen to this episode first, if possible.

Elliott is a coach who helps artists, writers and other creatives. He developed an accountability co-working online platform called Project Lab. He developed Project Lab to support creatives with a distraction-free zone to help them stay focused on their work projects. His intention with both ventures is to assist artists of all kinds in their artistic endeavors.

Project Lab also includes mindfulness and freewriting exercises to help participants move more fully into their projects and leave distraction behind.

Elliott has several business questions including how to get more clients and how to inspire his coaching clients and other creatives to join the Project Lab online community so he can more fully support their artistic projects.

Ep. 46: Unpacking Negative Beliefs About Money

Ep. 46: Unpacking Negative Beliefs About Money

This is Part Two of my coaching session with May, a financial coach in the UK who works with individuals, and also runs a non-profit. It’s recommended that you listen to Part One first (Ep. 45) before listening to this session as this one builds upon the first session.

May has taken action since the last session, including raising her rates.

Now she’s wanting to explore what may be underneath her negative money beliefs so she can move beyond them and begin to make monumental changes in her business and financial life.

In this session, you’ll hear us unpack May’s early life when she unconsciously took on some of her parent’s beliefs about money. Unless we bring negative beliefs to consciousness, these beliefs can continue to impact our business and life. May is courageously willing to explore this so she can free herself from these beliefs that don’t serve her today.

Join me and May as we bring to light her unconscious beliefs about money so she can choose whether to keep them or let them go. It’s always a choice. As you listen, I encourage you to reflect on beliefs you may have taken on that no longer serve you in your business and your life today.

Please note: This is Part Two of my business coaching session with May. Part One is Episode 45. It’s recommended that you listen to that episode first since this session builds upon the first session.
