To celebrate LatinX heritage month, we sat down with two of our incredible students to talk about their experiences at WCU and the region.
In this episode we sat down with assistant professor of English, Travis Rountree, to discuss his work with the LGBTQ archives project at Western Carolina University and the region. Travis and David discuss not only his commitment to activism for the LGBTQ community but the importance of archiving the stories and experiences of the community in the American south.
In this episode, we'll be discussing issues related to cases appearing before the supreme court regarding affirmative action in college admissions. The cases coming before the supreme court involve both the oldest private university in the US, Harvard University, as well as the oldest public university in the country, UNC at Chapel Hill. The case alleges that Asian and white students are being discriminated against in the attempt to diversify student populations at both institutions.
The banning of books in public schools has been a hot topic recently in American culture, but it is not a new topic of discussion. To explore the issue, today we have with us Michael Boatright, associate professor and WCU’s director of English Education; Patricia Bricker, professor and associate dean for academic affairs and director of Teacher Education in the College of Education and Allied Professions, and WCU student Whisper O’Brien.
