    Some people are naturally extremely athletic and Nick Speegle is one of those people, no doubt.  A standout goalkeeper during his younger childhood, he transitioned into playing football in 8th grade and excelled in that sport, taking him to play college at the University of New Mexico and ultimately getting drafted by the Cleveland Browns of the National Football League.

    Nick takes us on his journey and talks about the role his parents had in his life.  Now a chiropractor, he discusses his feelings about his boys playing football and has amazing advice for parents who are raising athletes today.

    Sam Lofton's childhood was full of sports and competitiveness with her two siblings.  She had difficulties along the way by the way of experiencing different emotions stemming from a traumatic head injury her sister faced while Sam was a youth player, which cut her own soccer career short. 

    Sam continued hers and found her way to James Madison University and to the professional ranks of the NWSL with Boston Breakers and Portland Thorns FC, before heading to Europe, and attributes her success to finding meditation along her journey.

    She now works with youth athletes and teaches them the same techniques, which helped her achieve success on and off the field.

    In this episode Gabe interviews Adam Krause, a PhD candidate in Psychology at UC Berkeley, working with Professor Matthew Walker at the Center for Human Sleep Science. Dr. Walker wrote the book, "Why We Sleep", which motivated Gabe to reach out to Adam.

    Adam's educational background is in philosophy and cognitive science from UC Berkeley, and his current work leverages multi-disciplinary techniques to examine the impact of sleep deprivation on human health and brain function. He is particularly interested in the physiology of pain, the interplay between sleep and the immune system, and in exploring the many functions of sleep.

    Gabe and Adam discuss the different types of sleep, sleep needs for children and adolescents, sleep paralysis, sleep's impact on pain and recovery, good sleep habits, and much more.
