    About this Episode

What does reconciliation mean in the Bible?  The apostle Paul in Colossians 1:21-23 helps bring clarity to the before and after picture of salvation and how we move from being enemies of God to part of His family.  We are changed into those who are holy, without blemish, and free of accusation. This is reconciliation with God.

Colossians 2:8-15 (Hollow and Deceptive Philosophy)

Paul warns us to watch out for hollow and deceptive philosophy.  Satan works through human tradition and cultural influences to tempt us with a "Jesus plus" gospel, but Paul counters with the truth that we are complete in Christ and not lacking anything.

Colossians 2:8-10... 8 See to it that no one takes you captive through hollow and deceptive philosophy, which depends on human tradition and the elemental spiritual forces of this world rather than on Christ. 9 For in Christ all the fullness of the Deity lives in bodily form, 10 and in Christ you have been brought to fullness.

Colossians 2:6-7 (Rooted in Christ Sermon)

What does it mean to be rooted in Christ?  In this sermon, we'll discover that we have been rooted and continue to stay rooted through Christ's finished work on the cross.  Rooted is in the perfect tense and the passive voice.  From that rootedness, Christ builds us up and establishes us in the faith as we give thanks for what He's done and what He is doing.

Colossians 2:6-7... 6 So then, just as you received Christ Jesus as Lord, continue to live your lives in him, 7 rooted and built up in him, strengthened in the faith as you were taught, and overflowing with thankfulness.

Colossians 1:24-29 (Christ in You, The Hope of Glory Sermon)

Colossians 1:24-29 (Christ in You, The Hope of Glory Sermon)

Christ in you, the hope of glory is the message that Paul proclaimed.  It was a mystery hidden in the pages of the Old Testament and now revealed in Christ.  In this sermon, we'll dive into the meaning of Christ in you, the hope of glory and what that means for you today.

Colossians 1:27 - To them God has chosen to make known among the Gentiles the glorious riches of this mystery, which is Christ in you, the hope of glory.

Colossians 1:9-14 (You Already Have an A)

Colossians 1:9-14 (You Already Have an A)

If God were handing out grades based on how you are doing in the Christian life, what would your grade be?  Many of us have this mentality where we are earning points for the good things we are doing and having points deducted for the bad things we are doing, but Colossians 1:9-14 reveals the truth that we are already qualified, have been rescued, and are in the Kingdom.  It sounds like you already have an A.

9 For this reason, since the day we heard about you, we have not stopped praying for you. We continually ask God to fill you with the knowledge of his will through all the wisdom and understanding that the Spirit gives, t 10 so that you may live a life worthy of the Lord and please him in every way: bearing fruit in every good work, growing in the knowledge of God, 11 being strengthened with all power according to his glorious might so that you may have great endurance and patience, 12 and giving joyful thanks to the Father, who has qualified you to share in the inheritance of his holy people in the kingdom of light. 13 For he has rescued us from the dominion of darkness and brought us into the kingdom of the Son he loves, 14 in whom we have redemption, the forgiveness of sins. (Colossians 1:9-14)

Colossians 1:1-8 (Identity in Christ Meaning)

Colossians 1:1-8 (Identity in Christ Meaning)

What is your true identity?  What is the meaning of identity in Christ?  In the opening verses of Colossians, Paul shows us how God defines those who are believers... as saints.  We are not sinners saved by grace but rather saints who sometimes sin.  There is a big difference!  We act out of what we believe about ourselves.  If you believe you are a sinner, the most natural thing for a sinner to do is sin.  If you believe that you are a saint (which you are in Christ), then you can begin to live out of the new creation that you are in Christ and have victory over sin!

    Colossians Background and Introduction

    Colossians Background and Introduction

Paul wrote to refute the false gospel of "Jesus plus."  The gospel is Jesus plus nothing = everything.  The Colossians background led to a diverse population and a pluralistic society.  The church was being tempted with a Jesus plus gospel, and in this introduction, we see that Paul writes to declare that the good news of Jesus is Jesus plus nothing equals everything and everything minus Jesus equals nothing. This is the main message of Colossians.  It is why Colossians was written.
