Championship Mindset with Dr. Amber Selking

When Amber Selking steps onto the field, she doesn't just see the game; she sees the potential for mental metamorphosis. This episode of the One Big Thing podcast is like sitting down with a dear friend who happens to be a whiz at applied sports psychology and understanding the intricate dance between mindset, performance, and faith. Amber's journey from the soccer fields of Notre Dame to a corporate career and back to the sports arena, armed with a Ph.D. and a bible, provides a striking backdrop for a conversation that entwines the discipline of athletes with the daily hurdles we all face.

As someone who has felt the sting of an ACL injury and the identity shifts that come with life's great upheavals, I've learned that resilience isn't just for the playing field—it's for parenting, business, and personal growth. Together with Amber, we discuss the unspoken challenges of mental health in a world where social media often blurs the lines between seeking help and seeking attention. We share stories, laugh about the messiness of family life, and explore the Mental Performance Playbook she devised to tackle emotional control—a skill that's not just for athletes but for everyone who's ever lost their cool when life threw a curveball.

This conversation isn't just about finding balance; it's about finding purpose in the chaos and joy in the journey. We touch on the importance of aligning actions with values, the transformative practice of incremental improvement, and the art of pressing pause to appreciate the present. If you're ready to reframe your thinking and level up your mental fitness, let this heart-to-heart with Dr. Amber Selking be your guide. We're peeling back the layers of mental health, performance, and personal fulfillment.

Life After Sugar with Netta Gorman

Life After Sugar with Netta Gorman

What happens when you decide to say goodbye to sugar? Meet Netta Gorman, a sugar-free lifestyle coach from Quebec, Canada, who walks us down the path of a life transformed by a sugar-free diet. From sharing her personal journey of the positive changes she experienced - physically and mentally - by eliminating sugar and flour, to discussing the practical aspects of making such dietary shifts, Netta offers a wealth of insights. But, this isn't just a conversation about diet; it's about reshaping our beliefs about food and cultivating a mindset that sets us free.

Moving beyond the health benefits, we explore the profound effects of a sugar-free lifestyle on overall wellbeing. We discuss the importance of mindfulness, positive mindsets, and how reducing sugar intake can liberate us in more ways than one. As we wrap up our insightful conversation, we touch on practical challenges - family preferences, meal prepping, and children's nutrition. We also highlight the power of intermittent fasting and the benefits of embracing a wholesome approach to food.

This is a journey of transformation that invites us to take charge of our bodies and our minds.

    ___________________________________________________________

    About Netta Gorman

I'm Netta, and I know what it's like to feel like you can't control your cravings. Up until my mid-40s, my weight kept creeping up, and I wondered: "Will I ever feel in control around food?"

I also started to struggle with constipation, joint pain, relentless fatigue, headaches, and uncomfortable bloating. I felt hopeless.

When I was 45, I decided to take matters into my own hands and try something I'd never tried before. My dream was to get rid of my cravings, fit easily into my clothes, live pain-free and bloat-free, and get my energy back.

But I didn't know how. One day my brother told me about a nutritional therapist he worked with, so I took a chance and met with her. She suggested I cut sugar, flour and all sweeteners for two weeks.

So I decided to cut sugar, sweeteners, and flour. I was so blown away by my results that I decided to mentor and guide midlife women through the same transformation that I had experienced.

Today, I teach women over 50 how to ditch cravings so that they can slim down and finally feel in control around food.
