Destin Report: Waiting on the Spring Warm Up

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Justin Leake of Panama City Inshore out of Panama City Beach, FL. and he gives a report on the inshore fishing before Ian started blowing. It sounds epic and I am noticing a trend about the fishing before these named storms. From now until the end of November the fishing will be fantastic, just be sure to avoid fishing during cold fronts and tropical weather events but the fishing before and after can be off the charts! Expect normal fall patterns otherwise, the fishing should be great!

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Jordan Todd of Saltwater Obsessions out of Port St Joe, FL. He tells us about the epic fall fishing that is happening in the area. The fall bait run is in full effect and the fish are responding. Jordan also explains why the fishing is so good just before and just after hurricanes that enter into the Gulf of Mexico. We hear about a Colorado Elk trip as well & some of the near misses from the trip. If you're a hunter, you'll definitely want to listen until the end.

He gives us an update on the fishing in the Destin area and it sounds like the Fall fishing is underway. With Red Snapper getting a fall season and the pelagic species a little closer to shore it should make for some great opportunities. Capt Lionel also tells us about the redfish and their feeding habits as it relates to the moon phases, it sounds like something worth paying attention to. The fishing is good and getting better as long as there aren't any significant weather events in the area, the Fall bite is underway in Destin.

Its not there every day, but be sure to have proper intel before heading to the surf right now. Inshore, it sounds like as the cooler weather approaches things are going to keep getting better and all of the normal redfish spots are producing as expected. Once we have another cold snap or two, we should start seeing massive schools of redfish, so be on the lookout!

It sounds like it has suffered from the recent rains in the area and just North. Brant said that the water is dirty inshore & on the beach. We also talk about a trip to Tampa Brant took and hear about the fishing there. We also get an update on what he and the guys from Salt Strong are up too.

On today's episode we talk with Capt. Lionel James of Lion's Tale Adventures out of Destin, FL. He tells us about fly fishing for Amberjack & snapper on the nearshore reefs. It sounds like it is an awesome way to chase these fish that we usually target by dropping baits. Lionel likes to live chum them up to the surface where you can see them and cast to specific fish and add a sight fishing element to the fun. This presents a whole new challenge to fly anglers and I am a big fan of the idea, definitely on my short list of things to do on the water.

Not what we want to hear but sometimes the factors just don't come together in a way that fires the fish up. In fact, sometimes it does quite the opposite. The good news is that the Gulf changes constantly & with the change in seasons slowly beginning, I think there are some really good days on the water ahead.
