About this Episode
It seems very wierd to say this in 2012, but there are really NO underground hip hop parties where djs spin only vinyl in New York City. The place where hip hop culture was born, does not cater to the those who still spin original copies of releases on vinyl. We all know the computer dj and digitalism in general has taken over the world, and because of that, and MY love for records, i decided to attempt to start a monthly event where the djs play all vinyl from the golden age of hip hop (say generally, '88 to about '97) called RECORDnition. Recognition of records....for the slow to catch the meaning of the name. ha ha. This is my opening set from the first one on Sept. 22nd. I didn't really know what kind of turnout to expect, and i must say....it was a bit overwhelming. I know there are many others out there who share my same struggle with still finding places to go where the music is specialized what you want, and how you want it....plus the people attending are super cool. I won't bore you anymore with descriptions of what went down, but vibe out to this set, and friend me on facebook (Marc Smith - Brooklyn, New York - my profile picture is me and my son - we're both very good looking so you can't miss us! ha ha.) so you can be kept abreast of the invites to the functions. As always, thanks for listening. Support the arts.
