This week on Digital Music Trends it was a pleasure to welcome Chandler Coyle (Music Geek Services, Berklee), Mark Frieser (Syncsummit) to chat about the week's news. The show also features an interview with Joel T. Jordan from Synchtank.

Inevitably we open the show by chatting extensively about TIDAL's press conference. Just 4 days after the (in)famous event the tide seems to have turned against the company given the many obvious issues with the service.

We also discuss the upcoming Syncsummit London event, the integration of Spotify into the Playstation and what the console market means for music subscriptions and finally Coachella's renewed partnership with YouTube to livestream the festival.

The show also incorporates an interview with Joel T. Jordan, the founder of the company Synchtank, specialised in online catalogue management & licensing software for publishers, labels and other industry professionals.

I really hope you enjoy this week's podcast, have a great week and 'till next time!

This week on the show a feature on Landr (from the company until recently known as MixGenius), an online automated music mastering service.

Unfortunately the usual news-based show suffered from a severe audio corruption issue, I restored it the best I could and you can find it at 26:00 but the quality is still compromised so have a listen and see if you can live with it. If featured Jenn Miller Audiosocket), Mark S Berry (Attack Media Group) and Syd Lawrence (wemakeawesomesh.it).
We chat about Universal Music Group and Spotify, the YouTube Music Awards, Vessel's launch and The Orchard becoming wholly owned by Sony.

I really hope you enjoy the show (at least the first half), apologies for the audio issues, have a fantastic week and 'till next time.

First up we hear the Gaye estate attorney who talks us through some key issues of this trial and then we comment on its potential repercussions.

On the show we also tackle McDonald's faux pas with the band Ex Cops and subsequent backtracking, Rock Band's return - can console music games make a comeback?, Bjork's exhibition at MOMA which from the reviews appears to be a tech #fail, the German music industry's 2014 results, Spotify's desktop tweaks, the Songwriter Equity Act, Kobalty's new round and quite a few tips from our guests about SXSW.

DMT 222: On Soundcloud, UMG's 2014, the evolution of D2F, Amanda Palmer on Patre

DMT 222: On Soundcloud, UMG's 2014, the evolution of D2F, Amanda Palmer on Patre

This week on Digital Music Trends it was a real pleasure to welcome Benji Rogers (President, Pledge Music) and Jessie Scoullar (Founder, Wicksteed Works).

We start by discussing On SoundCloud's $1m payment to partners thanks to high-profile brand partnerships and what that could mean for the company's future.

Then we  tackle UMG's 2014 decline in revenues which, alongside the recent management shake-up, could see the label revisiting its attitude towards freemium services.

I also take advantage of the expertise of this week's guests in everything direct to fan to talk about the evolution of D2F experiences. We debate whether they are being successfully deployed by the majority of artists or whether we're still looking at a missed opportunity. In that context we also discuss Amanda Palmer's new Patreon page which at the time of the recording had hit $14k and is now approaching $20k per 'thing' released.

Finally, we discuss SXSW 2015 and what my guests have planned so far for the festival which kicks off in just a few day's time in Austin, Texas.

I really hope you enjoy the show and 'till next time.
