Ditch the Tossers, improve your Work Life Blend with Tina Boden as guest and Deborah Ogden as Guest Host.

In Episode 12, the final Episode of Season 1 of Don't Work With Tossers - The Podcast, Tina Boden swops her Host Chair for the Guest Chair as she chats to Deborah Ogden, Guest Host for this Episode.

Tina shares how her Little Book of Tossers came about, she talks to Deborah about launching this Podcast and why she felt it was a great way to give business support in a light hearted way with a strong underlying message. Tina chats with Deborah about the importance of ensuring your work life blend is as good as it can be when you are a business owner. They talk about the importance of choice, being your authentic self and  Tina shares openly about the things that make her tick and why she feels it is important that you don't work with Tossers.

Tina Boden is 3rd generation self-employed and in her 35th year of self-employment.

She has worked with and come across plenty of Tossers in that time in her businesses that have spanned different sectors including property lettings and management, property development, retail and hospitality to name a few. Her life experiences, and she has had many, have also led Tina to encounter more than her fair share of Tossers.

As the Work Life Blend Coach, Tina now helps business owners create a work life blend that is right for them. Tina knows achieving work life balance is hard, almost impossible. The focus needs to be on the blend – how you mix work and life together – to reduce the impact on your mental, sometimes physical, health and increase the time you spend doing the things you love with the right kind of people, not Tossers!

Through her unique style of advising, coaching and experience sharing she helps to ensure the wellbeing of the business owner and their business is as good as it can be. Tina knows from a wealth of personal experience that one seriously impacts the other.

Tossers that put you off focusing on finance with guest Daniella Wainwright

In Episode 10 of Don't Work With Tossers - The Podcast, Daniella Wainwright, a Portfolio Finance Director and Founder of Wainwright Consulting, chats to Tina Boden about Tossers that put you off focusing on finance.

Dani talks about how her role as a Chartered Accountant in a big Corporate PLC saw her working very long hours, missing out on seeing her children and finding herself exhausted at the weekends. She shares how being frustrated one too many times with the fact much of this was caused by internal politics, constant reshuffles and vacancies not being filled, she made the decision 3 years ago to become self-employed and set up Wainwright Consulting. Dani chats to Tina about the importance of knowing your numbers in business but how many business owners are put off finance and acounting by jargon and the attitude of industry professional towards them.

Daniella (Dani) Wainwright FCA, is a Part-Time Financial Director, Consultant and Portfolio Career Mentor.

Dani is a senior finance professional with experience leading in all sizes of businesses from SMEs to FTSE 100 PLCs, and sector experience in marketing, retail, utilities, various tech, gaming and property. Not a Tosser but a Brilliant Jerk with guest Phil Fraser

Not a Tosser but a Brilliant Jerk with guest Phil Fraser

In Episode 9 of Don't Work With Tossers - The Podcast, Phil Fraser, a Business Sounding Board,  talks to host Tina Boden about how to identify people around you who are not a Tosser but a Brilliant Jerk.

Phil shares his 10 tips for identifying a Brilliant Jerk, some of them fit in Tina's top Tosser traits apparently! Phil and Tina chat about how both Brilliant Jerks and Tossers can have a negative impact on workplace culture and the importance of 'grasping the nettle' and taking action to deal with a Briliant Jerk to help a business, the business owner and the people that work in that business. Tina talks to Phil about how we often look at someone's CV rather than the personality of an individual, a process that does not always see the best person being recruited for the job.

Phil Fraser went from an accidental kitchen table start up, with no investment, all the way to multi-million pound sale to a PLC 18 years later. He has travelled the full SME business journey. During that journey he won many awards, appeared numerous times online and in print and even set up an annual industry report and awards ceremony.

Phil now works with ambitious SME-owners as a Business Sounding Board (think somewhere between Business Coach and Business Mentor). In simple terms, he’s ‘a pair of ears and an extra pair eyes’ for SME Owners helping them to be better at what they do. Phil’s mantra is 'It doesn’t need to be lonely at the top’. He helps Business Owners to be better business owners, by helping with their clarity and focus.

Host of his own podcast, Leeds Business Podcast,  Phil has appeared on over 60 podcasts, webinars and interviews, from around the whole globe, talking on a variety of business subjects. He is a regular contributor to the ‘Voices’ section of The Yorkshire Post, is an active Angel Investor and has also been a volunteer mentor with a number of organisations including The Prince’s Trust and Young Enterprise and speaks regularly at Leeds schools to pupils about careers.

Tosser trait-free communication with guest Duncan Lewis

Tosser trait-free communication with guest Duncan Lewis

In Episode 8 of Don't Work With Tossers - The Podcast, Duncan Lewis, Communication Trainer and Founder of Eaglei , shares his advice with Tina Boden about communicating in a Tosser trait-free way, something Duncan believes is a challenge for a lot of people.

Duncan shares how glossophobia, a strong fear of public speaking, is a problem many people, including business owners, face and how this can cause serious anxiety. They talk about how spoken communication is a big part of your personal branding. Duncan works with a diverse group of people from students, who he helps to improve interview skills,  to senior leaders who might need their communication skills tweaking. Tina and Duncan have a common belief that children as young as primary school age should be taught how to communicate correctly and they chat about this. Duncan believes that people hide so much of their real selves away from others in the work place. The work he does helps people to make an emotional connection through communication to overcome this.

A former director of professional theatre, Duncan now brings his experience and enthusiasm to support individuals and organisations, building and inspiring confidence in all his clients. With extensive experience in the private, public and third sectors, Duncan works all around the UK, but predominantly with businesses and in education across Yorkshire. He offers one day training workshops as well as individual coaching, supporting people to communicate their spoken messages more effectively and present the best version of themselves.

Duncan augmented his knowledge base by studying an MA in Leadership and Management, graduating in 2013. In 2020, Duncan wrote his debut book Speak Out! How I Make an Emotional Connection in Communication.

Tossers that discriminate with guest Anj Handa

In Episode 4 of Don't Work With Tossers - The Podcast, Tina chats to Anj Handa, Founder of Inspiring Women Changemakers, about Tossers that discriminate.

Anj has been self-employed for nearly 13 years, prior to that she worked in the private sector, public sector and charity sector and she believes that Tossers are everywhere, in all aspects of your life, you can't avoid them. In this Episode Anj talks about the importance of values and also feeling valued, how when looking at opportunities to work with organisations they have considered the colour of her skin rather than her ability and experience and she talks about speaking out to educate people about discrimination but doing it in the right way, not shaming people, so you are not perceived as a Tosser.

As well as being Founder of Inspiring Women Changemakers Anj Handa is recognised as an authority on Good Governance and Inclusive Leadership having worked for the last 20 years at Board and leadership level with global organisations to create better opportunities for people in business and society, lobbying to change policy that hinders them. She covers little-explored themes such as psychological safety, emotional correctness, and healthy boundaries.

Anj was recently recognised in Forbes as one of the ‘10 Diversity & Inclusion Trailblazers You Need to Get Familiar With’. Named as one of Grant Thornton’s 100 Faces of a Vibrant Economy, described by i-news as ‘a bloody brilliant woman’ and winner of the AFSA Positive Action Award, Anj was also named in the UK Charity Times 2023 International Women’s Day list. Additionally, her global changemaking work has been featured in three books: Generation Share, Eradicating FGM in the UK and Refugee Tales. Despite (or because of this) she has encountered her fair share of tossers at work!
