Life After Death - Surviving Suicide With RIchard Brockman MD

Life After Death - Surviving Suicide With RIchard Brockman MD
Richard Brockman MD lost his mother to suicide when he was only 7 years old. Since that day he has been trying to put the pieces of his life back together. In his book Life After Death - Surviving Suicide, Dr. Brockman describes his journey of loss and healing. Richard Brockman, MD, is a clinical professor in the department of psychiatry at Columbia University and a visiting professor in the department of psychiatry at the University of Namibia. He has been honored with the Nancy C.A. Roeske Award for medical student education by the American Psychiatric Association and with the Victor J. Teichner Visiting Scholar Award from the American Academy of Psychoanalysis and Dynamic Psychiatry for his teaching. Also a playwright, his shows have been produced both off-Broadway and on international stages. When Brockman found his mother’s body, the simple narrative of his childhood ended. Life After Death tells the story of a boy who died and of a man who survived when the boy and the man are one and the same. It tells a very personal—yet tragically common—story of irredeemable loss. It tells the story of story itself. How story forms. How it grows. How it changes. How it can be broken. And finally, how sometimes it can be repaired. Now an expert in genetics, epigenetics, and the biology of attachment, Brockman chronicles his evolution from a child overwhelmed by trauma to a man who has struggled to reclaim his past. He lays bare the core of one who is both victim and healer. By weaving together childhood despair and clinical knowledge, Brockman shows how the shattered pieces of the self—though never the same and not without scars—can sometimes be put back together again.

The Metalcore-Loving News Anchor With Reed Gregory

The Metalcore-Loving News Anchor With Reed Gregory
Join me as I sit down with Reed Gregory, the metalcore-loving journalist. I found Reed on TikTok, where he shares his love for Motionless in White, I Prevail and many other badass bands. He shares fun transition videos where he transforms from a fun tattooed dude to a professional anchor using different post-hardcore songs. In this episode we talk about what it's like vacillate between his two personas. Reed Gregory is a journalist and news anchor, who has a wide and extremely diverse background. After spending countless years as a young, hopeful musician, hoping to make it in the music industry, he toured across the United States and unfortunately never got to a point he was satisfied with. He quickly realized he should give another passion of his a shot, which was news and broadcasting, and attended Missouri Western State University in Missouri, and graduated with a degree in mass, communications and economics. After a wide array of jobs, such as a loan officer, a digital marketing coordinator, and honestly way too many others to name. He finally broke into the broadcasting industry and hasn’t looked back since. He currently resides in Fargo North Dakota, where he anchors and reports five days a week. Bitches Be Podcasting

    Bitches Be Podcasting
Join me as I have a lovely conversation with Mel B. and Jackie D. Owners of BDA Publishing, and hosts of Read, Watch, or DNF, and DNF Happy Hour podcasts! We discuss The Yellow Wallpaper, Xennials, ADHD, books and much much more! Mel B. here, the CEO (whatever that means). I’m a workaholic who enjoys naps, books, and cows. I was born in NYC, and now I live in Northern Virginia with a couple of big dogs, cats, my kids, and my husband, in a massive farmhouse in the middle of wine country. I’m an East Coast Army girl who married a West Coast Marine. Somewhere along the way I got old because apparently I’ve worked for the military and government for nearly 20 years - not sure how that is possible since I’m only 22. I don’t do hobbies; my personality is too flawed to let me do anything ‘moderately’. So, I now have several full time ‘passions’ that eat up my day - and I wouldn’t have it any other way. Maleficent is my spirit guide, bossing is my daily, and relentless may actually be my legal middle name. I’ve never met an obstacle or challenge where I didn’t say “hold my cocktail”, and I’m not about to start now. Reading is my one true escape from reality, so when the idea popped up that we could help put more stories out into the world - you better believe I said “bet”. Now, I’m using all of my ’talents’ to take on the publishing industry with my besties at my back - Charlie’s Angels style! Jackie: I was born and raised in Pittsburgh, PA, so Pens and Stillers fan until the day I die. I joined the U.S. Army after some “lost” years at the University of Pittsburgh. The Army was probably the best decision I could have made for myself, and it took me to places all over the world, like Europe, southwest Asia, the Middle East, and all over the U.S. I am married to a southern boy (talk about opposites), I have a wonderful, creative, and compassionate daughter, and a stepson who loves to play baseball. I currently split my time between Northern Virginia and Florida (gotta be close to the Mouse) and always look forward to “down time” so I can enjoy a good beer and read a good book.
