The key to his success was being in the right place at the right time, with the right message, and fueled by genuine intentions. Joe's story serves as a reminder that everyone's journey to success is unique and that determination, authenticity, and a clear mission can lead to remarkable achievements.

Joe Wicks, for instance, grew up in a chaotic environment but was always drawn to fitness and activity. He never imagined becoming an entrepreneur or connecting with millions, but his authenticity and love for helping people resonated with audiences. Ben Francis from Gymshark also inspires Joe, who is fascinated by successful people and their stories. Despite his humble beginnings, Joe never let his past define his future and instead focused on creating content that brought joy and connection. The importance of authenticity and staying true to oneself cannot be overstated in building a successful brand or business.

    • Unexpected success through passion and authenticityPassion and authenticity can lead to unexpected success and fulfilling careers. Sharing positive energy and supporting others can also bring joy and meaning to one's life.

    • Handling Negativity and CriticismSuccess brings criticism, but the real success is making a positive impact on people's lives. Ignore negativity and focus on positive feedback to continue your mission.

Success, especially in the public eye, often comes with criticism and negativity from others. Joe Wicks, a fitness influencer, shares his experiences of being labeled a sellout and motivated by money, despite his true passion being to help and inspire a wide demographic of people. He emphasizes that the money is a byproduct of success, but the real success lies in making a positive impact on people's lives. Wicks also shares how he has learned to ignore negative comments and focus on the positive feedback, which helps him to continue his mission. The nature of haters comes from a place of jealousy and envy, and Wicks encourages learning from those who are successful rather than being discouraged by their accomplishments.

    • Transform jealousy into inspiration and motivationFocus on positivity, build self-opinion, surround yourself with positivity, ignore negativity, stay true to values, nurture relationships, give before receiving, attract support and admiration

Focusing on positivity and self-growth is crucial for personal and professional success. Jealousy and negativity can hinder progress, so it's essential to transform these feelings into inspiration and motivation. Surround yourself with positivity and focus on building your self-opinion based on your own thoughts and logic. Ignore the negative comments and respond with kindness when necessary. Remember, the key to success is nurturing relationships and giving before receiving. Be clear with your vision and stay true to your values, even when faced with criticism. Your actions and positivity will attract support and admiration, leading to success.

    • The right person with the right message at the right timeTo succeed on social media in the fitness and food niche, focus on creating fun and accessible content, having a genuine personality, and maintaining consistency.

Success on social media, particularly in the fitness and food niche, requires being the right person with the right message at the right time. Joe Wicks, also known as The Body Coach, attributes his success to having a simple idea that resonated with people during a time when attention spans were shorter and social media was less saturated. He focused on creating fun and accessible content that helped people cook healthy meals quickly. Additionally, Wicks' genuine personality and consistency were key factors in building a strong connection with his audience. The combination of these elements allowed him to stand out in a crowded space and become a leader in the industry.

    • Personal connections through voice notesUsing voice notes can lead to deeper connections and faster engagement, creating a more personal and effective communication experience.

Utilizing voice notes in building and engaging with an audience can lead to more meaningful connections and a more effective use of time. The speaker shares how receiving a voice note from someone caught him off guard and made him feel more connected, leading him to want to respond with his own voice notes. He also mentions how this method allows for more in-depth conversations and faster engagement compared to text messages. Additionally, the speaker discusses how he deals with the large volume of DMs by having a system and dedicating specific periods of time to respond. Overall, the use of voice notes can create a more personal and engaging experience for both the sender and receiver.

    • Connecting on a personal level through messagesResponding to messages with empathy and motivation can positively impact people's lives. Small, consistent actions in fitness and other areas lead to progress.

Connecting with people on a personal level, whether through voice notes or social media, can have a profound impact on their lives. The speaker shared her experience of responding to messages from her followers and how she treats each interaction as if she's engaging with a person on the street. She also discussed the importance of motivation in various aspects of life, such as fitness and business, and how the feeling of accomplishment and energy gained from these activities can help improve overall well-being. The speaker emphasized that it's not necessary to have extensive equipment or time commitments to be successful in fitness or other areas of life, and that small, consistent actions can lead to significant progress. Ultimately, she encouraged the importance of prioritizing health and well-being for personal growth and success.

    • Taking care of physical health for optimal functioningConsistent exercise, proper sleep, and nutritious food are essential for daily productivity and well-being. Addressing past traumas and creating a healthy emotional environment also plays a crucial role.

Taking care of your physical health through consistent exercise, proper sleep, and nutritious food is essential for optimal daily functioning and productivity. As Richard Branson emphasizes, these habits are not just about appearance but also about how you operate and feel on a daily basis. A good night's sleep is the best pre-workout, and even short bursts of exercise can make a significant difference. The speaker shares his personal experience of the positive impact of these habits on his energy levels, focus, and overall well-being. Additionally, the importance of addressing past traumas and creating a healthy emotional environment cannot be overlooked. The household environment you grow up in can significantly impact your emotional well-being, and addressing any lingering emotional baggage can lead to improved mental health and overall well-being.

    • Lessons from a Tumultuous PastDespite a challenging upbringing, the power of love and commitment can help overcome past experiences and create a stable family life.

The speaker's past experiences with relationships, shaped by his tumultuous upbringing, influenced his perspective on commitment and trust. He learned to avoid relationships and conflict by running away when things got difficult. However, after falling in love with his wife, Rosie, he reevaluated his beliefs and decided to embrace marriage and commitment. The speaker's experiences taught him the importance of staying calm, being respectful, and being present for his loved ones. He aims to break the cycle of instability and provide a stable, loving home for his family.

    • Recognizing toxic relationships and seeking growthRecognize when a relationship hinders personal growth, seek outside perspective, and prioritize personal and professional development to find happiness.

Being in a relationship that doesn't bring out the best version of yourself can have detrimental effects on your personal growth and happiness. The speaker shared his experience of staying in a toxic relationship for 10 years, which left him feeling unfulfilled and unhappy. He eventually sought therapy and made the decision to leave, leading to a new relationship and personal growth. It's important to recognize when a relationship is holding you back and consider seeking outside perspective to make a change. The speaker also emphasized the importance of finding balance in life, prioritizing both personal and professional growth, and cherishing relationships with loved ones.

    • Finding happiness through helping others and living in the presentFocusing on the present, helping loved ones, forgiveness, and letting go of negative energy from the past are essential for personal growth and happiness.

Focusing on the present and finding ways to help others can be key to overcoming past struggles and finding happiness. The speaker shares how they've come to terms with their own difficult past by taking care of their loved ones and focusing on the present moment. They also emphasize the importance of forgiveness and letting go of negative energy from the past. The speaker's experience with their own parents and their struggles with addiction and therapy, as well as observing others, have led them to believe that living for the moment, being connected to others, and helping those in need are essential for personal growth and success.

    • Focusing on helping others and building connectionsHelping others and building meaningful relationships contributes to personal happiness and fulfillment. Focusing on the purpose of our actions and their impact on others, rather than just personal gains, can lead to deeper connections and a positive impact on the world.

Helping others and building meaningful connections, whether on a large or small scale, contributes significantly to personal happiness and fulfillment. This can be achieved by focusing on the purpose of our actions and the impact we have on others, rather than just on personal gains. The author of "Lost Connections," Johann Hari, observed that in cultures where people's default response to feeling good is to help others, there is a greater sense of happiness and connection. By focusing on giving back and helping those close to us, we can foster deeper relationships and make a positive impact on the world. Joe Wicks, also known as The Body Coach, emphasizes this idea in his mission to inspire millions of people to live healthier lives and feel good through exercise and healthy eating, from children to adults. Ultimately, the why behind our actions, whether it's for personal happiness or to make a difference in the world, is what drives us forward and keeps us connected.

    • Identifying audience needs and creating solutionsSuccessfully monetize a platform by understanding audience needs and offering valuable solutions, while staying true to personal values.

Joe Wicks, also known as The Body Coach, has built a successful business by providing value to his large and engaged audience through various channels. He monetizes his platform by offering an online fitness program, selling cookbooks, and partnering with companies like Gusto and a protein brand. Wicks saw opportunities to meet the demands of his audience and turned down deals that didn't align with his values. His success story started with his first book, The Lean in 15, which was the second best-selling cookbook in the UK, and he continues to expand his brand with a baby cookbook and a separate Instagram account, Ween in 15. Wicks' philosophy for making money is to identify the needs of his audience and create solutions to meet those needs, while staying true to his values.

    • Wealth and happiness: Beyond material possessionsWealth can bring joy and security, but prioritize experiences and relationships over material possessions to stay grounded.

Wealth and success do not necessarily equate to material possessions or a grandiose lifestyle. The interviewee shared his personal journey of becoming wealthy and how his priorities shifted towards providing for his family and experiencing new adventures with friends. He emphasized that money can bring joy and security, but it's essential not to let it inflate the ego or lead to excessive materialism. The interviewee also highlighted that his friends and family have noticed that he hasn't changed despite his wealth, and he attributes this to his focus on intrinsic motivators and understanding what truly brings happiness. Ultimately, the conversation underscores the importance of staying grounded and prioritizing experiences and relationships over material possessions.

    • Money doesn't buy happinessMaking a lot of money at a young age doesn't ensure happiness. Instead, focus on personal growth, balance, family, and addressing global challenges for true fulfillment.

Money and material possessions, even at a young age, do not guarantee happiness. The speaker shares his personal experience of making significant income but feeling unmotivated and unsatisfied. He then discusses his evolution and current goals, which include finding balance, having a family, and addressing global challenges. The speaker also reflects on the importance of education and the impact it can have on young people's lives. Ultimately, the conversation highlights the need for introspection and personal growth to discover what truly brings happiness and fulfillment.

    • Setting the foundation for a healthy life through childhood habitsEncourage healthy habits in children by being active role models and engaging them in physical activities. Instilling these habits early sets the stage for a lifetime of wellness.

Establishing healthy habits, particularly exercise, during childhood is crucial as it sets the foundation for a lifetime of wellness. The speaker emphasizes the importance of parents being role models and actively engaging their children in physical activity. Additionally, the speaker shares his personal dinner party guest list, which includes David Brent for comedy and Richard Branson for inspiration, along with a variety of food choices and a suggested exercise break. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of instilling healthy habits early in life and the power of positive role models and entertainment in motivating individuals to make positive changes.

    • The Power of Authenticity and Human ConnectionResponding to DMs with voice notes can deepen connections, inspire and amplify your mission.

Authenticity and genuine human connection can make a significant impact, not only on personal growth but also on building a successful brand or business. The guest, a body coach, shared his experience of the importance of responding to direct messages (DMs) with voice notes instead of text. He emphasized that this simple act of engagement can lead to deeper connections with his audience and amplify his mission. The guest's authenticity, intentions, and genuine excitement were also highlighted as inspiring qualities that resonated with the interviewer and the audience. The challenge for the audience is to try sending voice notes in response to DMs for a week and observe the positive impact it can have on their community and personal feelings. Overall, the conversation underscored the importance of genuine human connection and engagement in today's digital age.

Moment 165: This Exercise Enhances Mood, Memory & Concentration: David Raichlen

Moment 165: This Exercise Enhances Mood, Memory & Concentration: David Raichlen
In this moment, leading professor of evolutionary biology, David Raichlen discusses how to boost the brain benefits that come from exercise. Most people know that exercise can improve cognitive function, but don’t realise that different sort of exercise, like cardio or strength training, can provide different types of neurological benefits. David says that whilst all exercise is beneficial to the brain, research shows that the best sort of physical activity is a combination of physical and cognitive challenges. This helps the brain function as it copies how humans evolved to find food and survive. So this could mean that the next time you go for a run, choose the great outdoors over the treadmill and try different routes you haven’t taken before. "Uncovering the right stories for the right audiences so executives, leaders, public speakers, and job seekers can clearly and actively demonstrate their character, values, and vision."

In my work with coaching clients, I guide people to improve their communication using storytelling as the foundation of our work together. What I’ve realized over years of coaching and podcasting is that the majority of people don’t realize the impact of the stories they share - on their internal messages, and on the people they’re sharing them with.

My work with leaders and people who aspire to be leaders follows a similar path to the interviews on my podcast, uncovering pivotal moments in their lives and learning how to share them to connect more authentically with others, to make their presentations and speaking more engaging, to reveal patterns that have kept them stuck or moved them forward, and to improve their relationships at work and at home.
