    About this Episode

This month we celebrate 1 year of podcasting! Over 20 guests shared their time, knowledge, and experiences with us. We learned about vocal distortion, synesthesia, artist development, vocal styles and songwriting to list a few topics covered over the last 12 months. What started out as an Instagram live series, in which I began to challenge myself and start saying YES to my ideas and desires. It has helped me personally transcend a previous version of myself and move forward, bravely into the unknown. THANKS, from the bottom of my heart to every single person who listened in and supported the podcast over the last year. I do not get paid to make this podcast, in fact, I pay to make it. If you have enjoyed what I'm doing, you can continue to support me by buying me a virtual coffee anytime. If money is an issue, don't worry. You can comment, share, and subscribe for free! https://ko-fi.com/rebekahmusicstuff Finally, a MASSIVE thanks to every single individual who gave their time to talk to me and share their knowledge and experiences. I have enjoyed chatting with you all immensely. Very much looking forward to meeting a whole new set of people in the next year. NOTE: I'm making a small change to the pod in September. That is to put out an audio-only version. I love having the video format, but it does take up quite a few hours in total from the time of conception to the last edit and upload. I want to focus on college and every extra hour I have helps. I will still upload the audio to YouTube but you can listen on any of the usual podcast apps also.

Embrace the world music video: https://youtu.be/DeSa1950pdc Instagram: https://www.instagram.com/kevin.walsh... Bandcamp: https://kevinwalsh.bandcamp.com/ About Kevin Kevin Walsh is a songwriter, musician, singer and actor who developed his passion for music from an early age, singing before he could talk. He graduated from MTU (formerly CIT) Cork School Of Music with First Class Honours BMus and MA Degrees, having achieved the award of Highest Placed Student for three consecutive years. Participation in numerous supporting and ensemble roles in local musical theatre, television / short film and opera productions informed Kevin’s style as a songwriter, combining popular music tropes with the dynamic harmonies and storytelling found on both the stage and screen. Kevin dreams of working in every facet and capacity of the industry, as a singer, songwriter, musician, actor, arranger and producer. His debut single titled Embrace the World, a supergroup collaboration with Irish artists Emma Langford, Ger O Hanlon, Caroline Kay, Stephen Gormley, Molly Lynch, Mark Daly, Lisa Curran and Rebecca Houlihan, is in benefit of AsIAm, Ireland’s leading Autism charity. The song debuted on the Irish iTunes Singles Charts and the Irish iTunes Rock Charts at #1, and entered the Irish Homegrown Top 20 in a mere two days of its release. The project is very meaningful to Kevin as he was diagnosed with Autism at the age of five, and it is his way of communicating with the world and assisting a prominent charity ran by autistic people for autistic people. He looks forward to releasing his debut EP later in the year.

Networking is a vital part of our work, but many of us feel extremely uncomfortable in these situations and often avoid them completely. Yoga for Singers with Rosie Secker of Vox Yoga

Yoga for Singers with Rosie Secker of Vox Yoga
Rosie has been teaching and performing professionally for the last ten years. Rosie trained with the Vocal & Operatic Department at the Royal Birmingham Conservatoire (First Class BMus Hons) and in Musical Theatre Performance at Mountview Academy of Theatre Arts (PGDip, MA). Through training in these contrasting styles, Rosie became fascinated in how the voice worked and started studying vocal anatomy and physiology. Having tried yoga on and off, Rosie deepened her practice in 2014 and realised how much better her voice felt after each class. Not only did her body feel more free, but a different mindset and awareness of the breath and the body made such a difference to her singing. This led Rosie to become a Certified 500hr Yoga Teacher and start to focus on the body-voice connection. Through continued teaching, training and research, Rosie leads group workshops and lessons helping singers to really find and free their voice. Seeing Sounds: how synesthesia helps & hinders creative individuals, with Sarah Grace

Seeing Sounds: how synesthesia helps & hinders creative individuals, with Sarah Grace
Synesthesia is a neurological condition in which information meant to stimulate one of your senses stimulates several of your senses. Many well know artists such as Billie Eilish, Lorde and Kanye West are synesthetes. I chat to Sarah about her experience growing up with synesthesia and discuss some possible ways we as artists or coaches could take inspiration from this fascinating condition as well as how awareness of synesthesia can help individuals cope day to day. BIO “Sarah Grace is an American abstract synesthesia artist with a background in speech pathology and brain injury research. Sarah has a rare neural cross-wiring of the senses called auditory-visual synesthesia, which means that she has automatic experiences of colors, patterns, and textures when she hears sounds. She channels her synesthesia experiences into her artwork and creates custom paintings based on cherished songs, voices, and even animal noises. You can find her work at SeeingSoundsArt.com. Sarah also has a background in vocal and theatre performance and has always been fascinated by various forms of artistic expression. She and her partner Jackson, who also has a form of synesthesia, gained surprise viral interest on their TikTok platform, TastyWords. Their account is dedicated to discussion about synesthesia, the arts, and the fascinating intersection between the two.” https://www.seeingsoundsart.com/
