    About this Episode

Jonathan Marx, MBA discusses “Evidence-Based Medicine – EBM” – the standards that guide medical science and practice in the United States and many countries around the world. EBM is the ideal that healthcare professionals should make “conscientious, explicit, and judicious use of current best evidence” in their everyday practice. We discuss the Covid-19 pandemic, driven by the novel SARS CoV-2 virus, which has offered the public an unusual glance into the medical scientific methods of gathering data, understanding and coding the virus, developing vaccines, and putting them through the rigorous clinical trial process to bring life-saving solutions to the marketplace. You will also learn the terms “meta-analysis”, “systematic reviews”, and the “clinical trial” and “drug approval” process, so that when you hear or read these terms in the news, you are better informed as to what is happening in research and actions taken by our various health agencies. Various examples of the developing science behind diseases and disorders will be used so that you better understand the scientific method behind medicine today, and you can distinguish between established facts, unsubstantiated rumors, and the development of medical knowledge.

World's First Wearable Arm Compression Massager for Pain Relief

World's First Wearable Arm Compression Massager for Pain Relief
https://armcompression.com Millions of individuals suffer from poor arm circulation which can result in significant arm pain, in shoulders, elbows, wrists, fingers and associated muscles and ligaments. This includes those with health conditions such as arthritis and joint pain, cancer, carpal tunnel syndrome, diabetes, hypertension, Raynaud’s Disease, and repetitive strain injury. Numerous products are on the market such as squeeze balls, compression sleeves, and constriction bands, but none of them increase circulation and relieve arm pain. Other options require medical appointments or electricity, both of which tie the individual down to a place and time. Tej Singh, MD MBA, Stanford trained vascular surgeon and Founder and CEO of Fist Assist Devices, LLC has invented a battery-powered arm compression wearable that provides intermittent focused massage of various parts of the arm to increase arm circulation and reduce arm pain. This is the world’s first wearable hands-free battery-powered arm massager that provides pain relief and improved circulation on-the-go. This device is safe and FDA 510(k) cleared and is now on sale for a recommended price of $99 in the United States.

Humanizing Healthcare with Equity - Theresa Demeter MHA - Tegria
Tegria (tegria.com) is a nationwide and international consulting firm that works with health organizations, non-profits, and employers to identify improvements in processes and teamwork, and help their patients, audiences, and workers benefit from truly humanized healthcare. Humanized healthcare means that each patient is recognized and treated as the individual each truly is, without cookie cutter approaches, biases imposed by members of the care team or even technology (as you will learn in this Show), or inefficiencies or delays due to cross-discipline lack of teamwork. We learn about barriers to care, which can include appointment and hold times that don’t work for patients in need, geographic or time inaccessibility due to distance, understaffing, or inadequate facilities, and biases that can easily have a negative effect on care due to age, ethnicity, gender, race, or communication ability. We learn too about Social Determinants of Health (SDOH) – how where we live, our socio-economic background, our degree of education, and cultural and physical environments determine up to 80% of our health outcomes, despite the level of care provided. You’ll learn a lot about solutions in this presentation with Theresa Demeter, MHA, the Managing Director of Clinical Solutions, for Tegria, a powerful and successful convergence of health consulting organizations who have deep expertise in analysis, process improvement and technology.

Why YOUR Website needs to be Accessible to those with Disability

Why YOUR Website needs to be Accessible to those with Disability
The Americans with Disabilities Act and Web Content Accessibility Guidelines require web properties to be accessible to those with disabilities. Websites that do not comply can be subject to legal claims, with lawsuits increasing 300% in 2021 alone. Both large corporate and small business websites have been sued, resulting in out-of-court settlements, legal fees, and significant dedication of time. There are numerous softwares available to make websites compliant quickly and easily, but they differ widely in functionality and protections. How Patients can Monitor Multiple Sclerosis Symptoms from Home
Patient access to their physicians is a primary mover for healthcare improvement in 2020’s. One of the ways to enable close connection and communication is through easily useable mobile phone apps which allow patient input and secure data sharing with a chosen doctor’s office. By playing games on your phone and answering questions about how you feel, the BeCare app can generate objective measurements of changes in your neurologic function, your cognition and your mood. It captures data about what meds you have been on and the benefit you experienced, the frequency and nature of your MS flares, your mood, your diet and exercise and your family history. The data is linked to the computer of any physician you select, and your physician can use the information to modify your treatment as appropriate. In this presentation, Dr. Charisse Litchman discusses their award-winning app for patients managing their multiple sclerosis symptoms, and how it helps both patients and their health professionals monitor progress and adjust treatments. https://becarelink.com
