    About this Episode

Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast brings to you the first of its Patreon specials with KHUDA GAWAH (1992).

But first, we discuss the Indian content revealed during Netflix’s Tudum event. Our picks range from KHUFIYA by Vishal Bhardwaj and starring Tabu and Ali Fazal, to QALA starring house favorite Tripti Dimri who teams up with Baabil Khan (in his feature debut), Swastika Mukherjee, and director Anvita Dutt Guptan whose BULBBUL was one of our favorite pandemic films.

Our main review this week, however, is Khuda Gawah, a grand Bollywood extravaganza set in Afghanistan. Directed by Mukul Anand, this movie is a step back into time with Amitabh Bachchan, Nagarjuna, and Sridevi in leading roles with a maniacal Danny Denzongpa and meek Shilpa Shirodkar bringing up the rear. Our choice of this film was fuelled by our Patreon channel — select subscription tiers are able to choose movies for us to watch. If you would like to become a Patreon for this and other benefits, check out patreon.com/khandaanpodcast

This week's Patreon members have access to the extended cut of this episode with 30 extra content as well as Vikram Vedha video interviews with director duo Gayatri and Pushkar as well as the awesome and amazing Radhika Apte!

Welcome to Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast where this week we’re discussing FIGHTER.

Director Siddharth Anand’s PATHAAN featured heavily in our “best of” lists last year so we were looking forward to this movie, an aerial extravaganza starring Hrithik Roshan and Deepika Padukone for the first time together. Unfortunately, we thought it was soulless and empty. Join us to know more.

Welcome to the first Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast episode for 2024! Our spoileriffic review of the week is for Sriram Raghavan’s MERRY CHRISTMAS.

Starring Katrina Kaif and Vijay Sethupathy (both firing on all cylinders), this is a movie that is unexpected on many levels. We do go in for some heavy spoilers so please do watch the movie before you listen because you really do want to watch this movie. The hype is real.

The third of SRK’s releases in 2023, Dunki has been mired in controversy for months, largely for no fault of its own. Welcome to Khandaan: A Bollywood Podcast where this week we dive head first into nostalgia with RAJA HINDUSTANI (1996) — and immediately regret it.

Directed by Dharmesh Darshan, this loose remake of Jab Jab Phool Khile (1965) stars Aamir Khan, Karisma Kapoor and what we now recognise as regulars in the Darshan Bros universe, each playing a character that gets worse with every passing minute. Join us as we exorcise our trauma.
