Ep. 180 - The Despicable Campaign Against Covington Catholic Boys

    enJanuary 21, 2019

    Podcast Summary

    • Initial Reports of Covington Catholic School Incident IncompleteSocial media and public figures rushed to judgment based on incomplete info, highlighting the importance of waiting for all facts before forming opinions.

The initial reports of an incident involving Catholic schoolboys from Covington, Kentucky, and Native Americans in Washington D.C., which went viral on social media and were widely condemned, were based on incomplete information. The full context of the situation, which emerged later, showed that the students were actually being taunted by a group of black Hecklers before the encounter with the Native Americans. The media and many public figures rushed to judgment based on the initial reports, demonstrating the importance of waiting for all the facts before forming opinions. The incident serves as a reminder to be cautious of information spread on social media and to avoid jumping to conclusions based on incomplete information.

    • Initial reporting of incidents can be misleadingConsider the full context before jumping to conclusions and causing harm. Fact-check and wait for all information before making judgments.

The initial reporting of an incident can sometimes be misleading or incomplete, leading to widespread outrage and consequences for those involved. In the case discussed, a short clip of an incident between high school students and Native Americans was shared, leading to accusations of harassment and racist behavior. However, the longer context of the situation was not initially known, and the students were subjected to threats, expulsion, and public condemnation. It's important to consider the full context of situations before jumping to conclusions and causing harm. The incident also highlights the importance of fact-checking and waiting for all the information before making judgments.

    • Students confronted by radical group and Native American elderStudents faced racial and homophobic slurs from a radical group, tried to drown out insults, and were falsely accused of surrounding a Native American elder without evidence.

The Covington Catholic High School students were initially confronted by the Black Hebrew Israelites, a radical fringe group who consider themselves descendants of the Israelites and harbor hate for all people. The students were subjected to racial and homophobic slurs by the Black Hebrew Israelites, who also insulted Native Americans. Instead of retaliating, the students tried to drown out the slurs with laughter and school cheers. The Native American elder, Nathan Phillips, later entered the scene, but there was no evidence of the students chanting "build the wall" or surrounding him as initially claimed. The incident was a result of the Black Hebrew Israelites' provocation towards the students and the Native American group's attempt to escalate the situation.

    • Social media reactions can be misinformedWait before sharing opinions, fact-check information before spreading it to avoid spreading false narratives

Social media reactions and hasty judgments can be misinformed. The incident involving Nathan Phillips and the Covington Catholic High School students is an example of how quickly false narratives can spread. Phillips lied about the situation, painting the students as aggressors, but the video evidence contradicted his claims. The students' version of events aligned with the video. This incident serves as a reminder to wait before sharing opinions and to fact-check information before spreading it. Social media hot takes can wait for a day or two, allowing for a more informed and accurate understanding of events.

    • The impact of individual opinions on the internetExpressing an opinion on the internet can be redundant and potentially harmful if everyone else is already saying it. Avoid making assumptions based on limited information to prevent defaming innocent individuals.

The value of expressing an opinion on the internet, even if it's the right one, can be redundant and potentially harmful if everyone else is already saying it. It's essential to consider the ethical and moral implications, but beyond that, the impact of an individual's opinion might be minimal. Additionally, assumptions about specific groups, such as white teenage boys, based on limited information can be misleading and harmful. It's crucial to wait and consider the facts before sharing an opinion to avoid contributing to mass hysteria or defaming innocent individuals.

    • Media's role in spreading false narratives against young white menFalse narratives against young white men can quickly spread, revealing deep-seated biases. Media must promote critical thinking and fact-checking to prevent harm.

False narratives about young white men, particularly teenage boys, can quickly spread and be believed by those who harbor prejudice against this demographic. The media's role in amplifying these false narratives and inciting hate mobs against innocent individuals is a serious concern. The recent incident involving the Covington Catholic High School students serves as a prime example of this phenomenon. Despite the emerging evidence debunking the initial narrative, some individuals continue to cling to their initial reactions, revealing their deep-seated biases. This behavior underscores the need for critical thinking and fact-checking in today's information age. Additionally, the media's power to destroy lives based on demographic and political affiliations highlights the importance of media responsibility and accountability.

    • Recognizing and Addressing Harmful Smear Campaigns on Social MediaIt's important to acknowledge the harm caused by defamatory social media campaigns and treat them as libel and incitement, not protected free speech. Ethical lawyers, news outlets, and companies can take a stand against these actions and promote positive messages instead.

The current climate of social media can lead to harmful smear campaigns against individuals, which can escalate to dangerous levels. These campaigns, fueled by lies and incitement, can result in tragic consequences. It is essential to recognize that this behavior is not protected under free speech and should be treated as libel and incitement. Ethical and generous lawyers, as well as news outlets, should take a stand against these defamatory actions. Companies, like Eggard Watch, can use their platforms to promote positive messages and build up individuals instead of tearing them down. Ultimately, it is crucial to challenge and encourage positive masculinity rather than perpetuating harmful stereotypes or engaging in destructive online behavior.

    • Men's inspiration from commercials and the definition of masculinitySpeaker appreciates commercials with positive messages, encourages engagement, and defends organized religion against criticism based on its true meaning

The discussion revolved around the idea that men are challenged to be inspired and uplifted by commercials, which can imply a certain definition of masculinity. The speaker appreciated commercials that conveyed positive messages without explicitly stating what men should do. He also encouraged listeners to engage with him by sending emails to his show's email address. Additionally, the speaker addressed a question from a viewer about defending organized religion, particularly the Catholic Church, against criticism. He emphasized that religion, by definition, is a belief in and worship of a supernatural being, and that Christianity, as a religion, cannot be denied that label. The only question, he argued, is whether Christianity will be an organized or disorganized religion. The speaker's message was that the criticism against organized religion often stems from shallow thinking and a lack of understanding of what religion truly means.

    • Understanding People's Behaviors and ReactionsPeople's reactions and behaviors can be easily misunderstood, consider the context and intent before making judgments.

While some individuals may prefer a more disorganized and chaotic version of Christianity, it lacks positivity and structure. In the discussion, a listener shared an experience where the phrase "boys will be boys" was used more frequently by women, and it was often used in a context of boys being energetic and playful, rather than justifying wrong behavior. Another listener expressed disagreement with Matt's stance on the Covington Catholic School Kids issue, but Matt argued that the kids were merely reacting to harassment and confusion. The main takeaway is that people's reactions and behaviors can be easily misunderstood, and it's essential to consider the context and intent behind them before making judgments.

    • Actions should earn respect, not be given freelyManipulative actions of an elder man led to confusion and fear, while Tom Brady's impressive football career remains a fact, despite biases. Media must ensure factual accuracy and respectful discourse.

Respect should be earned, not given blindly. In the discussed situation, an elder man's actions were manipulative and disrespectful, leading to confusion and fear among the younger individuals. Regarding Tom Brady, despite personal biases and criticisms, his football career is undeniably impressive, with a level of dominance and consistency unmatched in NFL history. The media's attempts to target individuals, such as the Christian high school students or Ben Shapiro, with selective editing or misinformation, further highlights the importance of factual accuracy and respectful discourse.

Ep. 1396 - A System Run By Illiterate Imbeciles

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, a judge in Atlanta was just arrested and removed from the bench after getting into a fight at a nightclub and assaulting a police officer. Again: this woman works as a judge, not a waitress at Waffle House. But, she is just a symptom of a much larger problem. We'll discuss. Also, I'll offer my preview of tonight's presidential debate. Climate protesters attempt a very unique and hilarious method of stopping traffic. And, a guy on Twitter is roundly mocked and ridiculed after offering some unorthodox life advice to young men. As usual, the peanut gallery is wrong.

Ep. 1395 - A Flock Of Drag Queens Descend On Capitol Hill

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, yesterday was "Drag Lobby Day" on Capitol Hill as several drag queens descended on our nation's capital to lobby for a host of awful legislation. The whole event was a flop, though, which may tell us something. Also, the Biden Administration promotes another cross-dressing man. The city of Los Angeles cracks down on people who are committing the crime of trying to make their communities safe and livable. And, the first annual "FatCon," a convention for fat people, just happened. I'll have the highlights, in case you were under the weight limit and couldn't attend.

Ep. 1394 - The Fight Against Child Mutilation Makes It To The Supreme Court

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, the Supreme Court will officially hear a challenge to Tennessee's ban on "gender affirming care" for minors. This will be a huge case that could deliver a devastating blow to the trans agenda. Also, CNN kicks a Trump spokesperson off the air for questioning CNN's objectivity ahead of the presidential debate on Thursday. Taylor Swift makes a brave stand against the patriarchy at her most recent concert. And, British academics are researching milk to discover its ties to racism and colonialism.

Ep. 1393 - Christian Conservatives Proven Right Once Again As Abstinence 'Trend' Gains Popularity

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, the media has discovered a hot new trend. It's called abstinence. For years the Left mocked Christian conservatives for promoting abstinence. Now, they're coming around, but for all the wrong reasons. Also, Jamaal Bowman and AOC team up for the cringiest campaign rally of all time. Donald Trump made two campaign promises over the weekend: one very good and one very bad. And, the wife of an NFL quarterback says that she convinced her now-husband to date her by hooking up with his backup. Why would any wife share a story like that?

    Ep. 1392 - Disney’s Not So Secret Anti-White Agenda

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, we've heard about Disney's not-so-secret gay agenda. Now, thanks to James O'Keefe, we know more about their not-so-secret anti-white agenda. Also, MSNBC talking heads do their best to explain why classrooms should have pride flags but shouldn't have the Ten Commandments. Their argument is more revealing than they wanted it to be. And, can racism cause cancer? That was the premise of an episode of an NBC medical drama. It was not satire. Not intentionally, anyway.

Ep. 1391 - Anti-Human Eco Brats Deface One Of The Oldest Monuments On Earth

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, the anti-human climate alarmist brats are at it again. This time, they defaced one of the oldest and most historically significant monuments on the planet. These people don't love the planet. They just hate humanity. Also, Louisiana is mandating a copy of the Ten Commandments for every classroom in the state. The usual suspects are claiming that this is an attack on the First Amendment. I'll explain why that's ridiculous. And, the "bio-hacking" movement continues to grow. These are people who think that dying is a choice, rather than an inevitable fact of human existence.

Ep. 1390 - Major Polling Firm Changes Its Own Results After Left-Wing Activists Complain

Today on the Matt Walsh Show, the term "Orwellian" is overused these days–but, no other word can describe what just happened with a Pew survey finding that a vast majority of black Americans believe in racial conspiracy theories. The findings were so upsetting to activists that Pew went back and changed the report. This is a crazy story that few are talking about. We'll discuss. Also, Donald Trump reportedly floated the idea of abolishing the income tax. That's a great idea that should garner a lot more enthusiasm than it does. And, a democratic congresswoman claims that she miraculously cured cancer. Where are the fact-checkers on this one?
