    About this Episode

As the sun sets on 2022, so too does the Friendly Fan Club end its retread of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit trilogy. Near-universally considered the low point of Middle-Earth cinema, The Battle of the Five Armies was never even originally intended to be its own third feature, and we'd be lying if we said it doesn't show!

Join your Friendly Fan Cohosts as they take on their final - and greatest - challenge of the year: determining exactly which armies make up the titular five!

What We Talk About When We Talk About Stories (feat. David Faggiani of The EscapeGoat Podcast)

What We Talk About When We Talk About Stories (feat. David Faggiani of The EscapeGoat Podcast)

This month on Poditive Spin, we dissect the ever-growing toxicity of internet fan culture, hoping to discover a healthier approach to film and media criticism.

If you’re an arts fanatic, chances are you’ve gotten involved in your fair share of internet spats and mud-flinging over a creative product (movie, show, book, game, etc).

A question, it seems, every contemporary film buff should ask themselves is: how can we have these conversations in a more positive, constructive manner that doesn’t devolve into tribalism and intransigence?

To help us tackle these big questions, we’re joined in the Friendly Fan Clubhouse by David Faggiani of The EscapeGoat Podcast! Be sure to check that out if you’re shopping for more chats on big questions and cult classic commentary.

The Last of Us - Best Video Game Adaptation Ever?!

The Last of Us - Best Video Game Adaptation Ever?!

Following the conclusion of HBO’s The Last of Us (Season 1), we discuss the overwhelmingly positive response to both the show and the original video game sensation. Friendly Warning: Spoiler spores galore!

Do we dare believe that the curse of video game adaptations is finally broken?

Have we finally found a zombie (or in this case 'Infected') property that doesn’t leave Patrick cowering behind the sofa?

Have we found a triple-A game that Alex has actually completed within a reasonable timeframe?

Tune in to hear us try and hold onto our independent minds, staying positive in spite of the fungal infection-like algorithms trying to sway us!

Also, be a clicker! As in, click to like our Friendly Fan Club and follow along on our socials.

(But also, don't be a clicker, as in a  fungal-faced monstrosity that's possibly one of the most grotesque additions to zombie stories in the history of the genre I MEAN LOOK AT IT!!)

    Ep. 24: #JusticeForSmaug

    Ep. 24: #JusticeForSmaug

The Friendly Fan Club continues its quest to unearth the treasures of Peter Jackson's The Hobbit. The Desolation of Smaug famously found itself  retrofitted into a 'middle chapter' when Warner Bros. decided mid-production to split the originally planned two films into a trilogy. Despite the change of gear behind the scenes, however, could it be that Part 2 ended up being the strongest instalment of the lot?

    Ep. 23 - Black Panther

    Ep. 23 - Black Panther

It's been almost five years since Marvel's Black Panther became a global cultural phenomenon, and a landmark of African American representation at the movies. It introduced the world to Wakanda, a highly advanced nation of Africa untouched by colonisation and oppression, and made an instant icon of its star: Chadwick Boseman.

As its sequel, Black Panther: Wakanda Forever, makes its debut, the Friendly Fan Club reflects on what set the original apart from its peers, the impact it has had on Hollywood, and the legacy left in the wake of Boseman's 2020 passing.
