Ep. 3 Trevor Rose-Hamblin from Old Irving Brewing Co. Details the Kölsch Style of Craft Beer

Mary Nowak, Head of International Brewing at Lagunitas Brewing Company, joins us for the season one finale.  Mary helped build the Chicago location from the ground up, made her way onto the Crain's Chicago 40 Under 40 list, and is now spreading the joy of great craft beer around the world.  She discusses bringing awareness to women in brewing, shares her favorite Lagunitas legend, and tells everything we need to know about the IPA.  

Will Galaspy, Head Brewmaster at Burning Bush Brewery, has traveled the country brewing beer.  He shares some favorite memories of the past, the feeling of being overwhelmed at the positive response from the community since opening the new brewery, and doing his part to save the planet by composting his spent grain through WasteNot Compost.  He also drops knowledge about the little-known style of the Weizenbock beer style.    

Karl Rutherford is the Co-owner and Brewery Director of Twisted Hippo Taproom and Eatery where patrons can "embrace their strange."  Karl details us about his childhood escape routine, all-inclusive pricing, and creating a space where everyone feels included just as they are.  He also enlightens us about the saison style of craft beer.   

Welcome to our first Big Beer Adventure, where were take an "emerging craft beer drinker" and ask her to be adventurous in trying styles of craft beer that are typically unfamiliar to her.  With her expert guide, Roberta samples the Pilsner, Mild Ale, Coffee Brown Ale, and Hazy IPA.  Roberta touches on her career in special education, her current relationship with craft beer, as well as gives us her insights on her samplings. 

Aaron Dahl is the Head Brewer and Employee of the Month every month at Alarmist Brewing & Taproom.  He joins me to relate how a positive attitude is key, describes "beer on cask", and talks about squashing the fear that holds us back from doing what we love.  

Trevor, Co-Founder and Head Brewer at Old Irving Brewing Company, discusses spreading mental health awareness, the surreal experience of winning first place at the Great American Beer Festival, plans to expand the brewery, and a little history of the Kölsch style of craft beer.  He also provides insight into why Chicago is a leader for the craft beer industry and what he is most looking forward to about fatherhood.  

The Co-owner/Head Brewer at a new Chicago brewery, Midwest Coast Brewing Co., discusses his journeys from coast to coast, learning to brew classic beer styles.  Landing in Chicago, Cameron tells us what he loves about our great city, improving the social lives of dogs through his brewery, and the approachable craft beer style of the Brown Ale.

Roger is the lead-brewer at Maplewood Brewery and Distillery.  He shares his journey into brewing, transition to fatherhood, and the nuances of a hazy/New England IPA.  Likening beer complexity to that of wine with the variety of appearances, flavors, and aromas, Roger shares his passion of craft beer and depth of knowledge about the brewing process.
