What are key factors that recruiters consider in candidates?

    Podcast Summary

    • Maximize Hiring Potential on LinkedInLinkedIn is a top platform for finding qualified candidates, with over 70% of users not visiting other job sites. Perfect an elevator pitch, practice confidence, and prepare thoroughly for interviews to increase your chances of finding the right fit for both parties.

LinkedIn is a powerful tool for small business owners looking to hire professionals. It's like searching for your car keys in a fish tank to ignore LinkedIn when trying to find qualified candidates. Over 70% of LinkedIn users don't visit other leading job sites, making it the go-to platform for finding top talent, even those not actively seeking new opportunities. When it comes to job interviews, only 5% of applicants make it to this stage. To increase your chances, perfect an elevator pitch, practice confidence, and remember that interviews are a two-way street. Employers want to assess your fit for the role, but it's also essential to determine if the job is right for you. Don't forget, interviews are your opportunity to showcase your skills, experience, and personality. Prepare thoroughly, and you'll leave a lasting impression.

    • Introduce yourself authentically and align with company valuesPrepare a personal intro, research company values, and discuss topics that show alignment to make a positive impact in interviews

During a job interview, it's essential to showcase your authentic self while also highlighting your qualifications and experiences. Prepare a brief yet effective introduction that reflects your personality and interests, and research the company thoroughly to understand their values and recent projects. Be ready to discuss topics that demonstrate your alignment with the company's vision of success. Remember, you don't need to change your entire personality to fit a company, but showing that you understand their priorities can make a positive impact. Lastly, practice your interview responses naturally, not from a script, to ensure a conversational interview experience.

    • Prepare and effectively communicate three key points during a job interviewIdentify three strengths or qualifications, rehearse delivering them confidently, and ask thoughtful questions to determine if the company is the right fit.

During a job interview, it's crucial to prepare and communicate effectively about your strengths and qualifications. The interviewee should identify three key points they want to convey to the employer and practice delivering them confidently. These points could be related to experience, career goals, or valuable contributions made in previous roles. Repetition can help ensure the employer fully understands why the interviewee is the best fit for the job. Additionally, the interview is a two-way street, so it's essential to ask thoughtful questions to determine if the company is the right fit for you. Dress appropriately, be polite and friendly to everyone you encounter, and remember that rehearsing your responses can make a significant difference in making a strong impression.

    • Exploring potential roles, even if uncertain, can lead to new opportunities and valuable experiences.Considering higher-level positions? Prepare to discuss your experience and problem-solving abilities during interviews.

It's important to give yourself the opportunity to explore potential roles, even if you're unsure, as you might discover new opportunities and meet people who could help you grow. During interviews for higher-level positions, the focus shifts from personal qualifications to situational analysis and problem-solving. The interview process becomes more conversational, and the company will assess how well you can fit into their specific needs. For example, in a head of operations role, the interviewer might ask about your experience and how you would handle specific challenges the company is facing. So, if you're considering a head of position or a similar role, be prepared to discuss your experience and your approach to solving problems. And remember, even if you're not 100% sure about the role, it's still valuable experience to go through the interview process.

    • Discovering Hidden Talent on LinkedIn70% of LinkedIn users don't visit other job sites, making it a prime location for businesses to find untapped talent and individuals to apply for roles, even if they don't meet all qualifications. Persistence and gaining relevant experience are key to success in the job search process.

LinkedIn is a valuable resource for hiring professionals, especially those who may not be actively looking for a new job. Sandra, the speaker, emphasizes that over 70% of LinkedIn users don't visit other leading job sites, making it a prime location to find great candidates. She encourages businesses to post their jobs on LinkedIn and for individuals to apply for roles even if they don't meet all the qualifications. Sandra also emphasizes the importance of trying and making mistakes in the job search process, as each attempt brings you closer to your goal. For graduates looking to enter the fashion industry, Sandra acknowledges the challenges of unpaid internships and suggests focusing on gaining relevant experience and applying for roles regardless of perceived lack of qualifications. Overall, Sandra encourages a proactive and persistent approach to job searching and hiring.

    • Focus on job title over sector for non-design rolesTo enter non-design roles in fashion, focus on job title to increase chances of being hired based on skills and qualifications, but research companies extensively for interviews.

When it comes to entering the fashion industry, particularly in roles outside of fashion design, it may be more beneficial to focus on obtaining jobs with the desired title rather than in the specific sector. This increases the chances of being hired based on qualifications and skills rather than prior industry experience. However, for fashion design roles, gaining additional experience or qualifications may be necessary to stand out from the competition and increase employability. Additionally, extensive research on the company before an interview is crucial to demonstrate enthusiasm and preparedness.

    • Demonstrating Suitability in a Job InterviewPresent accurate and error-free information, align attire with company culture, and show enthusiasm without overshadowing qualifications.

While showing enthusiasm for a company during a job interview is important, it should not come at the expense of discussing your qualifications and experience. Dressing appropriately for the interview is also crucial, aiming for a look that aligns with the company culture but erring on the smarter side. Recruiters often view grammatical errors and lies on CVs as deal breakers, so it's essential to present accurate and error-free information. Remember, the goal is to demonstrate your suitability for the role and impress the interviewer with your qualifications and enthusiasm combined.

    • Understanding the Job Application ProcessHonesty is crucial, but preparation and understanding a company are vital. With the high competition for jobs, relevant experience, and knowledge of the company are key to standing out.

Honesty is key when applying for jobs, but it's important to put effort into understanding the company and preparing for interviews. Here are some key points from the discussion: * Lying on job applications is not recommended, as it can lead to getting caught out. * Millennials and Gen Z will make up 75% of the global workforce by 2025. * On average, 118 people apply for a single job. * Put notifications on for jobs you really want and check LinkedIn regularly. * 90.6% of employers prefer candidates with work experience. * 47% of recruiters would reject a candidate with little knowledge about a company. * The average interview process takes 27.5 days to complete and lasts between 30-45 minutes. Additionally, the importance of having relevant work experience was emphasized, but it's important to remember that not having exact experience for a job doesn't necessarily mean you're at a disadvantage. Preparation and understanding the company are crucial. Lastly, the speaker mentioned the importance of self-care and using Osea's Mega Moisture Duo to help you feel confident and radiant during the job search process.

Ep.102 The Hundred Million Dollar Startup: Ankur Nagpal On The Key To Growing & Selling Your Business

We’ve had a lot of entrepreneurs on this podcast, many are in the midst of growing their company. But Ankur Nagpal has been there done that, got the millions.

He’s reached the goal so many entrepreneurs work towards, selling his edu- tech company Teachable for a 9-figure sum in 2020. Ankur has ticked off so many accolades, Forbes 30u30, tens of millions of dollars in funding, and of course a large exit. But behind the accolades are more challenges than you might expect, from getting a cease and desist from Facebook, to almost being kicked out of the country. I’m so thankful to Ankur for being so open about his journey.

Frankie has achieved things so many would dream of, but today she told me after each career move, she felt like a failure, and that she didn’t have control over her future & career. Ep.100! The 10 Pieces of Advice You NEED To Improve Your Life

Ep.100! The 10 Pieces of Advice You NEED To Improve Your Life

    Episode 100!! We've made it!!

I truly cannot believe that we’ve made it to 100 episodes, but at the same time it still feels like the beginning. I’ve said it in pretty much every episode so far, but my aim for this was always to have interesting, advice-filled conversations, with fascinating people. When I started 100 episodes ago, I was frustrated that “life improvement” podcasts were either just positioned as health, or productivity, and how in fact it really stretches so much further than that. Whether you’ve listened to one episode, or one hundred, I can’t thank you enough for being part of the journey - this podcast has always been guided by what you want to learn & improve on, so never stop sending ideas and making this podcast alongside me! I’m so grateful and we have huge huge plans for the future so here’s to the next 100!

Ep. 98 I Started A New Company!! Meet The Founders Of Retrograde

This week I’m joined by Jake Browne and Gary Meehan - the co-founders of a brand-new company called Retrograde that's on a mission to democratise the creator industry using AI, helping creators earn more from their work. And here’s the wildest bit, I’m the other co-founder! This podcast has always been about sharing my business learnings, and it seems crazy not to talk about my biggest learning curve of the last few months, founding Retrograde.

I wanted this episode to be a raw and real conversation about our journey to date, the reality of what it's been like, how we’ve taken our idea & made it into something real, why the creator industry is crying out for change and what we think this company can be. I really hope you enjoy it.

We give you permission to be HONEST about what your old job was REALLY like!

If you're interviewing after leaving a shitty job, there's a good chance you've been told that you should 'never talk bad about a previous job or employer.' It's career advice that's been passed down through generations, and while it has merit - we're worried our listeners are taking the advice TOO seriously and are scared to share any honest thoughts about previous jobs in interviews.

In this week's episode, Emma and Sarah give you permission to talk 'bad' about previous employers.

We help you understand the difference between playing the blame game/venting VERSUS painting an accurate picture of why you left, to help your interviewer understand how you got here, and what you'll be looking to AVOID in this new job.
