Ep. 555 The Genius of Trump's NFL Stance

    enSeptember 26, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Understanding Biases in Trump's NFL CommentsAcknowledging personal biases is crucial to gaining an objective understanding of situations, such as Trump's NFL comments.

Our biases, whether as supporters of President Trump or critics, can color our perception of his comments and actions. Dan Bongino, the host of the Renegade Republican podcast, emphasizes this point by discussing how Trump's comments on the NFL were strategic genius, while some may view them as impulsive or unplanned. It's essential to acknowledge our biases and strive for an objective understanding of the situation. Additionally, Bongino shares his personal experience of taking a day off from the gym due to shoulder inflammation and plans to incorporate various topics into his upcoming show.

    • NFL controversy: Media, politics, and public perspectives clashThe NFL controversy reveals a stark divide between media, politics, and public perception towards respect for the national anthem and flag.

The NFL controversy surrounding players kneeling during the national anthem and President Trump's response to it has exposed a significant disconnect between the media, the political establishment, and the general public. Trump's comments, labeled as offensive by many, were seen by some as a bold move to address disrespect towards the flag and national anthem. The media and Democrats have long criticized certain groups in society, labeling them with derogatory terms, while ignoring similar disrespect towards the country's symbols. The public's reaction to the NFL controversy, with many expressing outrage towards the players, contrasts with the media's portrayal of the situation. The controversy goes beyond the NFL and highlights the growing divide between different perspectives and values in American society.

    • Why do NFL players protest the US anthem but stand for the UK's?The speaker questioned the inconsistency and lack of intellectual consistency in NFL protests, suggesting they are driven by a desire to incite anger rather than a clear cause.

During the discussion, the speaker emphasized the inconsistency in the actions and arguments of those who protest during the national anthem, specifically referencing the NFL's Ravens team. The speaker argued that if these protests are not about disrespecting the flag, then why did the team stand for the United Kingdom's national anthem? The speaker also criticized the lack of intellectual consistency and coherent message behind these protests, suggesting they are merely seeking to incite anger without a clear cause. The speaker concluded by expressing frustration with the intentional misconstruing of their words by liberal listeners.

    • Speaker's Frustration with Liberal Views on Systemic Oppression and Police BrutalitySpeaker feels frustrated by liberals' lack of evidence and understanding of systemic oppression and police brutality, and their reliance on isolated examples instead of systemic data. They criticized Richard Fowler for making such arguments without substantial evidence and accused liberals of being stuck in a 'vortex of stupidity'.

During a discussion about social change and the limitations of influencing societal perspectives through a platform, it became clear that the speaker feels frustrated by the lack of ability to challenge liberal views on certain issues, specifically regarding systematic oppression and police brutality. The speaker believes that liberals lack evidence and understanding of these concepts, and often rely on isolated examples rather than systemic data. The speaker also criticized a specific individual, Richard Fowler, for making such arguments without substantial evidence. The speaker's position is that millionaire NFL athletes taking a knee during the national anthem refutes the premise of systematic oppression, as they are not being held down by the system. The speaker also accused liberals of being stuck in a "vortex of stupidity" and not allowing facts or logic to influence their beliefs.

    • Trump's Team Uses Hyperbolic Statements to Bait OpponentsTrump's team strategically uses hyperbolic statements to provoke emotional reactions from opponents, gaining media attention and political advantage.

Donald Trump and his team intentionally use hyperbolic statements to bait the left into reacting emotionally, creating a trap. This strategy was evident in Trump's comment about building a wall and making Mexico pay for it. While the statement was not literally true, it forced the left to respond, revealing their emotional reaction to Trump. This tactic is not new and was also used effectively against President Obama. Underestimating the intelligence and strategic abilities of political opponents can be a costly mistake. Trump's team understands the left's emotional involvement with him and uses it to their advantage. The podcast segment with Louder with Crowder and upcoming appearances on Hannity and Fox and Friends are further evidence of Joe's continued presence in the political sphere.

    • Emotional reactions by the left during debates can expose unpopular opinionsThe left's emotional responses during debates can make them appear unreasonable and extreme, leading moderate Americans to question their stance on issues. This pattern of reactivity has been a long-standing issue for the left, but is becoming increasingly difficult to hide.

During political debates, the use of hyperbolic language and emotional responses by the left can often lead them into unfavorable positions, exposing their unpopular opinions to the public. This was exemplified in the discussion around building a wall at the Mexican border and the response to Trump's rhetoric towards North Korea. The left's emotional reactions resulted in them appearing unreasonable and extreme, leading moderate Americans to question their stance on issues. The media's response to Trump's rhetoric further solidified this perception, as they often backed the opposing side instead of remaining neutral and reasonable. This pattern of emotional reactivity has been a long-standing issue for the left, and it has been hidden for years. However, with figures like Trump and Bernie Sanders bringing these positions to light, it is becoming increasingly difficult for the left to hide their anti-American, anti-capitalist, and socialist leanings.

    • NFL's Anthem Protest Backfires, Exposes Anti-American SentimentsThe NFL's decision to kneel during the national anthem has led to backlash, amplifying perceived anti-American sentiments and potentially driving away viewers. Emotions should be separated from reason in political discourse, and the media should avoid sensationalizing the situation.

The NFL's decision to kneel during the national anthem has backfired, exposing the perceived anti-American sentiments of some players and potentially driving away viewers. The speaker argues that the left's response to criticism has only amplified the issue, leading to a loss of support and declining ratings. He also emphasizes the importance of separating emotions from reason in political discourse and criticizes the media for sensationalizing the situation. Ultimately, the speaker argues that Trump's ability to provoke strong reactions has put the NFL in a difficult position, leaving them with little room for compromise or resolution.

    • Dawn to Dusk: Sustained Energy and Mood BoostDawn to Dusk energy product provides a long-lasting energy and mood enhancement, unlike other energy drinks or supplements that may cause a crash later.

Brickhouse Nutrition's Dawn to Dusk energy product offers a sustained energy and mood boost for up to 10 hours, unlike other energy products that may leave you feeling tired a few hours later. The host, Dan Bongino, is a fan of the product and uses it to help him get up early and energized for his morning show. He highly recommends it to his audience and shares that he receives positive feedback about it. Additionally, Dan expressed his skepticism towards liberal claims, using the example of minimum wage, and emphasized that their promises often don't align with the actual outcomes.

    • Minimum wage policies: Positive or negative effects?Studies on minimum wage policies show mixed results, with some suggesting positive outcomes and others negative consequences. It's crucial to critically assess the research methods and motivations behind the findings.

The effectiveness of minimum wage policies, as demonstrated in studies, can be subject to interpretation and controversy. While some studies, like the one in New Jersey from 1994, suggest positive outcomes such as increased wages and job growth, other studies, like the one in Seattle, show negative consequences such as reduced working hours and lower earnings for low-wage workers. It's important to critically evaluate the methodologies and assumptions of these studies to gain a clear understanding of their findings. Additionally, the motivations behind advocating for minimum wage increases can extend beyond the stated goal of helping workers, such as the potential financial benefits for unions and political parties.

    • Debate over minimum wage impact on growth and wagesObjective analysis and consideration of all relevant data are crucial for understanding the impact of minimum wage on economic growth and wages.

The debate surrounding the impact of minimum wage on economic growth and wages continues, with critics questioning the validity of certain studies and proponents insisting on the importance of close comparison studies. However, it was pointed out in the discussion that some critics who previously defended a study from New Jersey and Pennsylvania now dismiss a more recent study from Washington state due to its results contradicting their preferred narrative. This inconsistency highlights the need for objective analysis and a willingness to consider all relevant data. Additionally, the importance of personal preparedness was emphasized in light of various uncertainties and potential crises.

    • Left's triumphs often come with rubbing it in and forcing complianceThe left's emotional reactions can lead to strategic miscalculations and a 'you will comply' mentality, as seen in the cases of the Kentucky court clerk and pro-life pregnancy centers.

The left's approach to winning on contentious issues often involves more than just victory. According to the discussion, they have a tendency to rub their victories in people's faces and even force compliance through penalties and fines. This was exemplified in the cases of the Kentucky court clerk who refused to sign same-sex marriage certificates and was put in jail, and the pro-life pregnancy centers in Hawaii that are now required to post referrals to abortion centers. The left's overreaction based on emotion rather than reason leads to strategic miscalculations and a "you will comply" mentality. This was effectively used against them by Donald Trump during his presidency, and it continues to be a weakness for the left.

Diversity Matters with Oscar Holmes IV Season 3 Episode 5 Episode Title: Policing in America Guest: Dr. Rashawn Ray   Diversity Matters with Oscar Holmes IV is a podcast that explores all things diversity, equity, and inclusion (DEI) related. In each episode, Oscar and his guests have lively discussions around DEI topics, explore the latest research on the topic, and discuss the implications so that listeners will be more knowledgeable about the topics and be able to apply the insights to their lives.   Show Summary: “If we solve the statistics, we will solve what is happening with policing the scene. To do that, we have to determine the cultural manifestations of racism and of the black threat.”   People don’t realize that when we talk about policing in America, it goes beyond protecting specific turfs and areas. To understand what it truly meant, you must go deep into the history, origin, and background of law enforcement.    And in this episode, we welcome Dr. Rashawn Ray to the guest chair as he discusses the culture and law enforcement practices that lead to police brutality. Dr. Rashawn earned all his sociology degrees and has published over 50 books, articles, chapters, and nearly 20 op-eds.    He also shares his extensive research and work on liberation for oppressed people, particularly for Black and Brown people, and the criminalization effect. Listen closely as we talk about the in-depth analysis of the efficacy of body cameras, the determinants of police brutality, and police misconduct payouts to understand better the current state of America’s policing.    There are so many factors we need to address when it comes to the structure and improvement of policing institutions. Learn what we need to solve racism in connection to civilian payout and police misconduct in the words of Dr. Rashawn.  3 Exceptional Highlights:   The roots of law enforcement in the United States go back to slave patrols, groups of people who would round up black people fleeing plantations who were escaping their enslavement.  Overwhelmingly, it is white people who created the social institution and maintained and enforced the social institution. And so when we think about those origins, that's important.  There were 87% enslaved black people. And even the free black people didn't mean they were free. Even today, it is still valid that black people haven't fully reached liberation.  Show Highlights:    The history of convict leasing   3:55 Dr. Rashawn Ray   Convict Leasing was what happened after slavery formally ended. So we're talking about the late 1800s and early 1900s. It became prominent and known as Slavery by Another Name, where black people were arrested and accosted for minor infractions. Interestingly, some of the same sorts of things that we hear today.    The efficacy of body cameras  and the determinants of police brutality   21:03 Dr. Rashawn Ray   There's overwhelming agreement on body-worn cameras, implicit bias training, the importance of police officers being held accountable for their behaviour, and the need to deal with the law enforcement Bill of Rights. It gives police officers the ability to commit crimes in their personal or professional lives and not be held accountable for them like the general public.   The prominent movement of police defunding   28:12 Dr. Rashawn Ray   So two points here, defunding the police means reallocating funding, and it does not mean obliterating the system. You know, it does not mean ending law enforcement, as we know, and some people think we should abolish policing.   33:20 Dr. Rashawn Ray   I think all of those matter; when we take an evidence-based, market-driven approach, we get to the best solution for a city or a police department and then help them to move forward in a way that is healthy and beneficial for everyone.
