Ep. 600 A Pending Constitutional Crisis You Must Know About

    enNovember 28, 2017

    Podcast Summary

    • Republicans Criticized as Domestic Terror Group for Supporting Controversial FiguresDespite criticisms, both parties prioritize saying 'yes' to their constituents, leading to government growth, and neither effectively addresses the needs of the American people.

According to Dan Bongino, the Republican Party is being criticized for being a "domestic terror group" due to their support of controversial figures like Roy Moore, who have been accused of pedophilia, and their inaction on issues like healthcare for children. Bongino also criticized the Democrats for their stance on certain social issues, but argued that both parties prioritize the power to say "yes" to their constituents, leading to the growth of government. He believes that neither party is effectively addressing the needs of the American people.

    • Political climate and tax reform's uncertain futureEconomic growth from tax cuts could lead to increased capital, spending, and investment, but passage remains uncertain, impacting elections

The current political climate, particularly in relation to tax reform, highlights the contradictory nature of those advocating for bigger government while also pushing for pay-for-play politics. Economists argue that the proposed tax cuts could potentially lead to significant economic growth, with estimates suggesting over a trillion dollars in growth over a decade due to lower corporate tax rates and expensing. This growth could translate into more capital available for businesses, leading to increased spending and investment. However, the passage of this tax reform remains uncertain, with potential consequences for Republican lawmakers in the upcoming elections.

    • Potential economic growth from tax cuts could reach up to a trillion dollarsTax cuts could boost the economy by up to a trillion dollars, but critics warn about increased debt and potential interest rate hikes

The lower corporate tax rate could lead to significant economic growth, potentially up to a trillion dollars over a decade, according to credible economists. However, some critics argue that the tax cuts will increase the national debt and deficits, leading to higher interest rates and negating any potential cost of capital benefits. It's important to note that history shows that tax cuts have not resulted in a full loss of revenue to the federal level. Additionally, the economists in the study point out that international money has nowhere else to go but the United States, despite its debt, due to the stability of the U.S. economy.

    • U.S. remains an economic powerhouse with low interest rates and potential growth from tax cutsLow interest rates persist due to global economic situation and potential tax cut investment. Tax cuts could lead to 0.4% growth and $1 trillion in investment. International money may continue to flow to U.S. Income tax cuts can increase take-home pay. Capital spending on equipment is up 7.3%.

Despite the economic challenges the United States is facing, we are still an economic powerhouse, and interest rates remain low due to the global economic situation and the potential for increased investment as a result of tax cuts. The tax cut package, according to economists, could lead to an additional 0.4% growth and potentially a trillion dollars in investment. Additionally, with few attractive alternatives for international money, it may continue to flow to the U.S. Furthermore, income tax cuts in the package, while not groundbreaking, can lead to increased take-home pay for workers, potentially encouraging more labor. Another economic positive is the recent increase in capital spending on equipment, which is up by 7.3% in an annual rate.

    • Economic growth and potential tax cut benefitsThe economy is improving with increased investment, shipping, and employment. A tax cut could lead to more capital spending, shipping, and job growth. Regulatory reductions and potential Obamacare elimination could also boost the economy. iTarget, a product that improves marksmanship, was endorsed.

The economy is showing signs of improvement, with people investing in products, shipping, and employees. This economic growth could potentially continue with the passing of the tax cut, leading to increased capital spending, shipping, and job growth. Additionally, the reduction of regulations and potential elimination of Obamacare could further boost the economy. On a different note, the speaker also endorsed iTarget, a product that helps improve marksmanship through laser bullets and a phone app, as a valuable tool for gun owners looking to enhance their skills in the comfort and safety of their own homes.

    • Power struggle between executive and legislative branches over CFPB appointmentThe resignation of CFPB director Cordray and the subsequent appointment of Mick Mulvaney as acting director has led to a dispute over who has the authority to appoint the new head of the CFPB, highlighting the power struggle between the executive and legislative branches and the importance of understanding political appointments and bureaucratic structures.

The resignation of Richard Cordray as the director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau (CFPB) has led to a potential constitutional crisis. Cordray, a far-left Obama appointee, was known for his controversial tactics, including allegedly determining racial bias based on names. His departure paved the way for President Trump to appoint Mick Mulvaney as the acting director, but Cordray attempted to name his own replacement, leading to a dispute over who has the authority to appoint the new head of the CFPB. This situation highlights the power struggle between the executive and legislative branches and underscores the importance of understanding the implications of political appointments and bureaucratic structures.

    • Ongoing controversy over acting director of CFPBLiberals disregard rules for discretionary governance, seen in CFPB appointment and net neutrality debate

There is ongoing controversy surrounding the appointment of Leandra English as the acting director of the Consumer Financial Protection Bureau, despite legal rulings and internal objections. This situation, according to the speaker, highlights the liberal tendency to disregard rules and constitutional procedures in favor of discretionary, non-rules based governance. Another topic touched upon was the debate around net neutrality, with the speaker expressing skepticism towards government intervention in managing internet traffic, citing the example of Netflix and the alleged slowing down of its streaming service by internet service providers.

    • Net Neutrality: Netflix's Past Traffic Manipulation Challenges the ArgumentNet Neutrality debate complex, Netflix admitted to slowing down traffic, challenges argument for regulations, importance of considering all perspectives and facts, discussion also touched on clean diets and new product from Brickhouse Nutrition

During a discussion about net neutrality regulations, it was revealed that Netflix had admitted to slowing down their own traffic in the past. This contradicted the argument for net neutrality regulations based on the alleged unethical slowing down of Netflix traffic by internet service providers. This revelation challenges the premise of the argument for net neutrality regulations. The debate surrounding net neutrality is complex, and this revelation adds another layer to the ongoing conversation. It is essential to consider all perspectives and facts when making informed decisions about internet regulations. Additionally, during the discussion, the importance of sound nutrition was emphasized, and a new product from Brickhouse Nutrition, a sponsor of the show, was introduced. The product, called "Field of Greens," offers a convenient way to consume a large amount of vegetables in one serving. The host, who is a believer in clean and healthy diets, expressed his excitement about this new product. Overall, the discussion touched on net neutrality regulations, the importance of clear and healthy diets, and the introduction of a new product from Brickhouse Nutrition.

    • Speaker promotes energy supplement and discusses school choiceSpeaker endorses 10-hour energy supplement for productivity and recommends it for busy individuals. He also advocates for school choice, criticizing Democrats for opposing it, and expresses excitement for the potential benefits.

The speaker is promoting a bill or product called "Dawn to Dusk," which is a 10-hour energy and mood elevation supplement in pill form. He finds it effective for getting through long days and recommends it for those with important business meetings, tests, or physical activities. He also mentions a bill or issue related to school choice and criticizes Democrats for opposing it, suggesting it's about controlling the flow of funds rather than caring for children. The speaker expresses excitement about both the energy product and the potential benefits of it being easier for parents to choose where their children go to school.

    • Liberals' Contradictory Stance on Healthcare and Education FundingLiberals advocate for cost control in healthcare due to market spending but push for increased education spending due to political influence. School choice programs, like Wisconsin's, demonstrate better educational outcomes for disadvantaged students.

Liberals have contradictory arguments regarding money spent on healthcare and education, despite both services following the same economic rules. In healthcare, they argue for cost control due to excessive spending, as most of the money comes from the free market. In contrast, for education, they argue for increased spending because a significant portion of the funds goes to Democratic lawmakers via teachers' union dues. The Wisconsin school choice program results, showing 8% more growth in educational metrics for students in these programs, highlight the benefits of such initiatives for struggling students. The inconsistency in liberal arguments and actions regarding education funding and school choice undermines their claims of advocating for kids, low-income families, and the little guy.

    • The Importance of Quality Education for All ChildrenQuality education is crucial for future opportunities, yet many public schools struggle with high dropout rates, particularly for Black students. School choice programs are showing positive results, allowing kids to grow, learn, and contribute to the economy.

The quality of education a child receives can significantly impact their future opportunities, and yet, a large number of public schools in the United States are producing high dropout rates, particularly for Black students. The speaker, who grew up in a diverse, lower-middle income community and experienced the benefits of attending Catholic schools, believes it's a national disgrace that not every family has access to quality education. He emphasizes that this issue is not about race but about providing opportunities for all children to succeed. The good news is that school choice programs are showing positive results, and these kids are growing, learning, and contributing to a growing economy. The speaker encourages listeners, regardless of their political or spiritual beliefs, to consider the importance of education and the impact it can have on individuals and society as a whole. Additionally, he asks for a prayer for his personal health during his ongoing medical treatment.

Are these tax cuts for real?

Are these tax cuts for real?

Who’s right? Are these really the biggest tax cuts since the 1980s? Or are we paying more tax than ever? Or might both things be true? Amol and Nick look through the headlines of a complicated Autumn Statement and ask whether these tax cuts are real. They talk to former chancellor Ken Clarke about economic credibility, and they examine the tax-and-spend dividing lines between Labour and the Conservatives ahead of the election.
