    About this Episode

This week on the DMT 1-2-1 show an interview with Ben Brannen, the President of atVenu. The company is working hard to provide music industry professionals - whether artists, managers or tour managers - with an easy way to track merchandise sales whilst on the road thanks to an advanced ecosystem spanning across web and mobile apps.  atVenu has already processed $85 million worth of merch sales and has settled thousands of shows, the service is available internationally.
Merchandise can be a pretty unsexy part of the music industry but is proving to be very resilient and Ben does a great job explaining what the current challenges are and how his company is trying to solve them.
I really hope you enjoy the show, have a great week and 'till next time!

This week on the DMT 1-2-1 show I chat with the founder and CEO of Africori, Yoel Kenan.

Africori is a company that works across multiple territories in Africa dealing with music licensing and distribution for artists and labels. With offices in London, Cape Town and Lagos, Africori has been quietly building a strong network of relationships and Yoel chats about how the market is evolving, the biggest challenges in developing the music economy, payment systems, contractual issues, the importance of YouTube and much, much more.

For me this was a particularly fascinating episode as I know extremely little about digital music in Africa - as demonstrated during the recording of DMT 199 at Berlin Music Week - so if you're on the same boat this interview should provide a good introduction to the topic.

I really hope you enjoy the show, have a fantastic week and 'till next time!

This week on the DMT 1-2-1 show a feature on the social music apps developer Smule focusing in particular on the Artist Program recently launched by the company.

It was a real pleasure to welcome Jeannie Yang, Chief Product and Design Officer and Turner Kirk, Artist Relations Manager at the company to the show. We cover a fair bit of ground going all the way back to the first ever collaboration with an artist with the T-Pain app in 2009, the natural evolution of the relationship of the company with musicians and how that converged into the Artist Program.

We chat about how the partnership between Artists and Smule could help create an ecosystem that encourages discovery as well as create a new revenue stream. Finally we catch a glimpse of Smule's plans for the social future of the platform.

It was great to finally catch-up with a company that I've been keeping an eye on for years, so I really hope you enjoy this show.

Have a fantastic week and 'till next time.
