Ep. 9 | Our Past Relationships w/ the Montoya Twinz

    en-usAugust 16, 2020

    Podcast Summary

    • Challenges of being twins and societal expectationsCommunication and understanding are essential in relationships. Societal norms can create unnecessary tension and misunderstanding, especially around gender labels.

Gender labels and societal norms can create unnecessary tension and misunderstandings. In this episode of Dropouts, two female guests, Micah and Marie, shared their experiences of being twins and the challenges they face due to their appearance and societal expectations. They discussed their names, their decision to be twins, and their insecurities around their looks. Micah shared her experience of feeling insecure around Zach because he had previously expressed a preference for her sister's looks. This led to a misunderstanding and an argument between them. In the midst of all this, they also touched upon the topic of gender and how it can be limiting and confusing. Micah expressed her frustration with the fact that she couldn't call Marie "female" without offending anyone. They also discussed their parents' reaction to their birth and how they were both considered mistakes. The episode highlights the importance of communication and understanding in relationships and the need to challenge societal norms that create unnecessary tension and misunderstanding.

    • Impact of our actions on others' livesOur seemingly insignificant decisions can significantly influence others' lives. Stay authentic and true to oneself.

    • Meeting through Business and FriendshipsCollaborating with friends and industry peers can lead to personal and professional growth.

The speakers, Jared and Zach, met each other through mutual business ventures and friendships. They initially met when Jared's music group requested merchandise design from Zach's friend, Montoya Twins. Later, they collaborated on video editing projects, leading to stronger friendships. Jared expressed his desire to be part of the LA creative scene and learn from those around him. Zach, known for his teasing nature, picked on Jared playfully, and they bonded over shared experiences and humor. The conversation also touched upon their experiences with social media platforms, such as Musically and YouTube, and their transition into creating content on Twitch. Overall, their friendship and collaborations have been instrumental in their personal and professional growth.

    • From live streaming to editing their own YouTube videosThe Montoya twins grew their YouTube channel by transitioning from live streaming to editing their own videos, keeping their content authentic and relatable, and committing to their channel despite time-consuming editing process.

The Montoya twins' success on social media began with live streaming on Youtube, but they later transitioned to creating and editing their own YouTube videos after discovering a demand for it. They learned editing skills together and continued to grow their channel by keeping their content authentic and relatable. Their friendship started through a shared social media company, and they have since become one of the YouTube channels that the speaker enjoys watching due to their authenticity and lack of annoyance. The editing process is time-consuming, but they believe it adds their unique thumbprint to their videos. They have since expanded their team and taken on more responsibilities, but their commitment to their channel remains strong.

    • Siblings and creative partners navigate conflictsIntense disagreements between siblings and close partners can be resolved, revealing unique coping mechanisms and strengthening their bond

Siblings and close partners can have intense disagreements but ultimately find a way to move past them. The speakers in this conversation, who are siblings and creative partners, discuss their dynamic and how they handle conflicts. They acknowledge that they have arguments, but they also emphasize that they eventually make up and continue their relationship. The conversation reveals that they have different coping mechanisms during and after arguments, such as going for walks or buying specific snacks. Despite their disagreements, they value their bond and continue to work and live together.

    • Friendship and Entertainment with an Unconventional TwistThrough playful banter and shared interests, two friends navigate unexpected challenges in their social circle, demonstrating the importance of staying true to oneself and finding joy in the unconventional.

The speakers in this conversation have a unique dynamic, using playful banter and terms of endearment, despite the initial impression of intimidation. They engage in various forms of entertainment, from TikTok to podcasting, and have an unconventional approach to acquiring items, including finding dumpster chairs. However, they faced an unexpected challenge when a potential friend expressed discomfort due to their virginity. This conversation showcases their lighthearted interactions, their shared interests, and the unexpected hurdles they encounter in their social circle.

    • Misunderstandings in FriendshipsClear communication and understanding are essential for maintaining healthy friendships. Assumptions and misinterpretations can lead to hurt feelings and misunderstandings.

People's perceptions can differ greatly, even among friends. During a conversation, a friend expressed feeling unwelcome and hated by the group, despite the group's assurance of their positive feelings towards him. The friend believed that the group did not greet him enthusiastically enough and felt uncomfortable with their lack of physical affection. He also assumed that the group disapproved of his cuddling with female friends. The group was surprised by these accusations and tried to clarify their intentions, but the friend was firm in his beliefs. This incident highlights the importance of clear communication and understanding in maintaining healthy relationships. It also shows how assumptions and misinterpretations can lead to misunderstandings and hurt feelings.

    • Misunderstandings in FriendshipsFriendships require mutual respect, understanding, and trust. Misunderstandings can lead to assumptions and complicate relationships. Open and honest communication is essential to build strong connections.

Some people have difficulty forming genuine friendships due to their own beliefs and insecurities. In the discussion, Jared and Zach shared their experiences of being misunderstood by each other, leading to misunderstandings and assumptions. Jared felt that Zach couldn't be friends with him because of his perceived attraction towards her, while Zach felt that Jared was being defensive and in a mood when he was around her. They both found it difficult to connect on a platonic level due to these misunderstandings. Additionally, Zach expressed his belief that women can only be friends with men if they are sexually attracted to them, which further complicated their friendship. It's important to remember that friendships are built on mutual respect, understanding, and trust, and it's essential to communicate openly and honestly to avoid misunderstandings and build strong connections.

    • Impact of upbringing and environment on motivations and behaviorsPeople's experiences growing up in different environments shape their values, behaviors, and perceptions. Some value hospitality and manners, while others prioritize self-centeredness and insecurity.

People's motivations and behaviors can be influenced by their upbringing and environment. In the discussion, it became clear that the speaker and her friends had different experiences growing up, with some coming from smaller towns and others from larger, more self-centered cities like Los Angeles. The speaker expressed frustration with a person who had made it clear he didn't want to be friends with them, but still came around and caused tension. She perceived him as insecure and self-absorbed, a common trait in LA culture according to her. In contrast, she valued the hospitality and manners of her hometown and the opportunities and diversity of LA. During the conversation, they played a game where they imagined randomly time traveling or teleporting, highlighting the excitement and potential risks of such experiences. Overall, the conversation showcased the impact of personal experiences and environments on people's perspectives and behaviors.

    • The Cost of Traveling Through Time or SpaceMissing precious moments with loved ones is a potential cost of traveling through time or space. Authenticity and small gestures matter in relationships.

Having the ability to travel through time or space comes with its own set of challenges and consequences. Jared's hypothetical situation of being able to sneeze and travel through time or space raises questions about the importance of family and the potential cost of missing out on precious moments with loved ones. The discussion also touches upon the idea of personal connections and the significance of small gestures, like birthday cards filled with change equal to one's age. The group reflects on the importance of authenticity in relationships and the potential impact of not acknowledging someone's birthday. Ultimately, the conversation highlights the importance of cherishing the present moment and the people in our lives.

    • The Unique Bond Between Zack and Jared MontoyaThe Montoya twins, Zack and Jared, have a deep bond beyond just being siblings, often described as an old married couple relationship, and value genuine conversations, especially on special occasions.

The dynamic between twins, Montoya brothers Zack and Jared, goes beyond just being siblings. They have a unique bond that is often described as an old married couple relationship, with its ups and downs, but one they wouldn't want to divorce. They also face questions that are often silly and repetitive, but they take it in stride and use it as an opportunity to engage with their fans. The importance of genuine conversations, especially on special occasions like birthdays, was also highlighted in the discussion. The twins shared that they value their relationship deeply, and while they may have differences, they wouldn't wish to not be twins or have their best friend by their side. The podcast episode, despite some distractions, ultimately provided an insightful look into their lives and the unique bond they share.

    • Comparisons and IndividualityComparing individuals based on metrics and experiences can be frustrating and inaccurate. Recognizing individuality is crucial for fostering healthy relationships and avoiding unnecessary conflict.

Being constantly compared to others can be annoying and frustrating, especially when people fail to recognize individual differences. This was a common theme in the conversation between two individuals, who often found themselves being grouped together despite their unique personalities and experiences. They expressed annoyance when their actions were attributed to the other person and when they were compared based on metrics like social media followings. Additionally, they shared an experience of both liking the same man who ended up dating one of their siblings, which added to the sense of comparison and frustration. The conversation also touched upon the challenges of trying to blend into each other's classes in high school due to their distinct personalities. Overall, the conversation highlighted the importance of recognizing individuality and avoiding automatic comparisons.

    • Appreciating the small things in lifeFriends creating art remind us to cherish small moments and support each other through challenges

Focusing on the small things in life can bring joy and beauty, even when faced with serious challenges. The discussion revolves around friends creating art and sharing their experiences. One friend, who often puts others before herself, painted an ice cream cone as a reminder of the importance of appreciating the small things. Another friend, who tends to keep his feelings to himself, opens up when he feels it's the right moment and with the right person. The conversation also touches on the importance of having a support system and being open to seeking help when needed. Ultimately, the friends' shared creative project serves as a reminder to cherish the small moments and to be there for each other in both good times and bad.

    • The fear and rewards of emotional commitment in relationshipsCommunication and being open to love can help overcome commitment fears, leading to deep emotional connections and happiness in relationships.

Relationships can be scary due to the deep emotional commitment required. People often fear the potential for heartbreak or the idea of prioritizing another person above their own needs. However, if one finds the right person, the rewards can outweigh the fears. Communication and being open to the possibility of love are key to overcoming commitment issues. Ultimately, the emotional investment in a relationship can be both terrifying and rewarding, as it represents a significant part of one's life. The fear of making a mistake or being hurt can make people hesitant to fully commit, but the potential for happiness and companionship can make it all worthwhile.

    • Respecting each other's pace in relationshipsEveryone has unique goals and desires, prioritize finding a partner with whom you share a connection and compatibility, respecting each other's pace in relationships is crucial.

People have different timelines for relationships and marriage, and it's essential to respect each other's pace. If you're intending to marry, getting into a relationship implies seeing that person in your future. Emotions are natural, and it's okay to feel intense about the decision. Some people, like Lee and Jared, got married young, and it's not a shock for them. Pressure to conform to societal norms is common, but it's crucial to stay on your own schedule. A first kiss or any other significant milestone should not be built up to be something extraordinary but a natural progression in a relationship. Ultimately, everyone has unique goals and desires, and it's essential to prioritize finding a partner with whom you share a connection and compatibility.

    • On the complexities of first loves and relationship reconciliationConsider the current state of the relationship and potential harm before reconciling, focus on personal growth, and wait for three kisses before considering marriage.

While first loves hold a special place in our hearts, not every relationship with our first love is meant to last a lifetime. The speaker shares her personal experience of having an on-again, off-again relationship and emphasizes the importance of considering the current state of the relationship and the potential for future harm before deciding to reconcile. She advises against waiting for an ex to return and encourages focusing on personal growth and emotional healing. The speaker also shares her rule of waiting for three kisses before considering marriage. Overall, the conversation highlights the importance of introspection and maturity when making decisions about relationships.

What's up party people! We're back with another fun themed episode but this week we travel back in time! Maybe idk the timeline is a little fuzzy on this one. This week Zach and Tara talk about their experience meeting Tara's idol, we explore the depths of one of our love lives, and there might be a new Dropouts couple to ship you'll just have to watch and see...We hope you enjoy!

    P.S.

We sincerely apologize for another shorter episode this week :( As you can see this was shot on the same day as the Mount Everest ep and just for a little context, because of everybody’s schedules we had to shoot two episodes AND a music video all in the same day to make sure we were able to put out our regularly scheduled episodes for you all. I hope you can understand and give us a little grace for that. I also wish I could say that we’d be back to our normally scheduled program next week but to be honest with you, the next time we film will most likely be while we’re in NYC for our East coast live shows! Now, no promises, but that episode may or may not have a very cool guest on it 👀 What I can say for certain is that it’ll still be another week until we’re back in the diner. We always want to give you the best content possible and sometimes life gets busy and hectic and tries to throw a wrench in that plan, and we’re just trying our best to uphold that promise to you all. Thank you for coming along this journey, you truly mean the world to us. Can’t wait to see everybody on tour next week!!

Thank you to the team at Thurgood Media for creating the back drop for us!https://www.thurgoodmedia.com/ What's up party people! Okay, first order of business we'd like to formally apologize for the shorter episode this week. As you can see we filmed in a special location this week, but with that (and also a few technical issues) came some time constraints that we couldn't avoid. We were also filming a VERY cool project the same day that i think many of you will be excited to see 👀 We always want to provide you all with the best content we can and we hope that this unique location and all the behind the scenes effort we put into every episode and this one in particular, at least somewhat makes up for it... Second order of business, we still have a great episode for you! Despite what the background might say, things start off HOT this episode with some drama between two of our cohosts 👀 You'll just have to see for yourself who's a part of that. Following the drama, Zach and Skyler fill us in on all the wild antics they got into while at Stagecoach. Then to round it all out we dive into an introspective, thought provoking question that you all might want to ask yourselves. It just might make you look at yourself in a different light.
