Join Kenny Troiano and Frank Bradley, as they discuss the topic surrounding Station of Leg and Body Carriage. In the past, very few breeders understood the term conformation of body. All they knew or cared about was station of leg. 

Today, things have changed a lot. Not only do they not know about conformation, they are confusing body carriage with station of leg. Just ask 100 people what the difference is between body carriage and station of leg, and you’ll get 100 different answers. When you challenge their beliefs about type, conformation and carriage, most don’t know what you’re talking about. They think all are one in the same. Once you explain it to them, they see the difference. However, when you ask them how those relate to the station of leg, you see that there is a complete disconnect or quite a bit of confusion in this area. They tend to ignore type and conformation, and they confuse body carriage with station of leg. 

As you can see, we have a serious problem. If we don’t understand the difference between type, conformation, carriage and station, how can we select future brood fowl properly? This episode is about “The Misconceptions about Breeding.” These are popular misconceptions that tend to hold most breeders back. And can prevent you from creating anything special or superior or great.

When I talk with the average breeder, I find that they are very reliant on “Old Wives Tales” and “Superstitions.” Nothing is based on empirical evidence or scientific facts. 

I recently did a coaching call with one of my members of the Breeders Academy, and most of his questions were based on many of the misconceptions we see around breeding. I spent most of that call clearing up those misconceptions. And, he’s not alone. These are misconceptions that are shared by a majority of breeders, beginners and veterans alike.

This episode is a recording from 24 years ago, with my mentor, Tony Saville. We talk about natural selection and artificial selection, and its relationship to the breeding of chickens and gamefowl. I know you will find this very informative.
