EP23: Music Edition: Take a little trip "INTO THE FOG" with me!

On January 30th I officially kicked off my 2024 musical adventure around the sun with a performance by the Benny Hill Jazz Quartet! It was a spectacular benefit event raising money for the Cape Fear Community College's music department and it was a few hours WELL spent!!
Then on February 2nd I chose to once again celebrate what used to be my marriage anniversary by attending a concert, in order to make some new memories ;) This year I had the distinct pleasure of taking in a performance by Elvis Costello & The Imposters, with Charlie Sexton guesting in as well, and boy oh boy was my soul filled with MAGNIFICENT MUSICAL MELODIES!! 
In case you didn't know: I LOVE MUSIC!!! It truly does soothe this savage beast ;)

I spent my late teens, 20's & early 30's in a rather unwell mental state. I was roaring through the world like a tornado, generally unaware of how my behavior was regularly harming those around me and equally harming myself in ways that had me in a viscious cycle of self abuse.
Although I knew something was "off" with my mental health, I honestly didn't know what to do about it. So I drank and drugged my way through most of it, and when that made things even worse I drank and drugged more! That went on pretty much until my life hit a serious bottom on December 19th of 2000. Shortly thereafter I consciously embarked on a journey of recovery and self discovery which introduced me to the concept of mental wellness!! Since then I've been on an upward trajectory that has taken me places, emotionally and physically, that I never thought possible. 
One of the most important lessons I've learned thus far is that my mental health MUST matter to me! It's wonderful if it matters to others but MOST IMPORTANTLY is that it matter to me because if I'm not motivated to work on myself then it doesn't matter what others may have to offer.
In this episode I share about what a fantastic adventure I've been on since making MY mental health a priority, along with sharing ideas that may be helpful to you.
My mental wellness journey has allowed me to grow and heal in ways I never thought possible AND by caring for myself I've been able to be there for others who are hip to hopping on the positive mental health caravan ;) 
If you happen to be struggling in the mental health department I hope you hear something that inspires you to keep moving forward. YOU ARE WORTH IT!! WE ARE WORTH IT :)

Boundaries? What are those?! Aren't they something you set while playing basketball, or other sports? You set them to block the other person out right?! Or don't they relate to property lines?
Yup! That's what I thought for quite some time ;) Boy oh boy, was I rather surprised when I eventually learned that boundaries were also something I could set within my relationships! EMOTIONAL boundaries! What a concept ;) And even more surprising was how often I had disregarded other peoples boundaries due to my being ignorant of the concept ;) 
I'm happy to say I've come a long way baby!!
These day's I relish in setting boundaries! The growth that has taken place within, and the countless relationships that have been saved OR ended by setting them has been well worth every bit of time taken to become more familiar with the process and most importantly has been the willingness gained to continue to practice setting them :) 
Join me as I share my experience with boundaries, or lack thereof, along with sharing some examples that you can begin to implement yourself!
It's not always comfortable to place them... Its not always easy to accept when others place them... but both of those options are a BAZILLION times better than continuing to live a life without them. In my opinion anyway ;)

Here we are again! Where? At the end of a calendar year and beginning of another!
Whether we feel as though we're "ready" to start a new chapter it's happening regardless ;)
Thanks goodness for the concept of "One day at a time", because that's all we really ever have.
That being said, here's to a clean slate! A new beginning! A continuance, if you like ;) Whatever way you choose to feel about this time of year I gently invite you to join me in a bit of reflection and hopefully you'll be inspired to do your own reflecting on where you've been and where you would like to be heading!
The earthly experience is one NOT to be missed! Take off the coat of expectant pressures and perhaps choose to allow yourself the gift of focusing on what it is you'd truly like to get out of your time on planet Earth. And then begin to put those ideas into motion as 2024 gifts us with another opportunity to experience life one day at a time :)

Well here we are again! Where? In the midst of that mystical time of year when religion, "holiday" music, forced family fun, suggested excessive spending, food gorging, and expectations of being merry and bright are sort of pushed into our lives whether we like it or not. Of course there is always the option to isolate one's self away, turn off all media devices and hunker down until the "season" passes... But where would be the adventure in that? ;)
In this episode I share a bit of what's been on my mind as 2023 comes to a close, bringing with it the onslaught of the Triple Whammy: Thanksgiving, Christmas & the New Year.

HELLO CYBERSPACE!! Oh how I've missed you!!
In the spirit of the Holiday Season I'm ending my 2 month recording hiatus with a serious shot of GRATITUDE!! Reason being? While in Colorado this past October, I finally got the opportunity, AND more importantly the nerve, to interview my dear friend Alex Mintling, creator & host of The Builder's Journey podcast. A recent challenging life experience made it very clear to me that I am truly living a life beyond my wildest dreams! The experience itself wasn't some sort of immediate tragic life altering situation, but rather something that most likely happens to MANY of us, and possibly even on a daily basis. That being said, this experience really brought into focus, for me, how this life I'm living is better than anything I would have chosen for myself. BUT that clarity arrived only through surrendering to looking at the ACTUAL life I'm living rather than opting to stay caught up in a desire to be living some sort of fantasy life ;) 
My hope is that as you listen YOU TOO will perhaps be inspired to shift your perspective away from the idea that a life beyond YOUR wildest dreams is somehow unattainable, and instead focus on the fact that you may actually already be living a wildest dream life of your own :)

It's my birthday! I've officially completed 52 trips around the sun, and what a ride it's been so far :)
