    About this Episode

We’re back y’all (with our episode title inspired by Sandra Oh, our QUEEN)!! In this episode Elise and Matthew talk about Asian American representation in Western media and what it means to be a PROUD Asian American in film, music, and even everyday life. We dive into some quotes by our QUEEN (again, Sandra Oh), our love – mostly hate relationship with 88rising, and the VMA’s decision to start a ‘Best K-Pop’ category. Listen in to hear @sassyasiantimes recommend some GREAT Asian American artists to support and some fun TEA on how Matthew and Elise bonded during an eye candy filled car ride.

EP 5: Dating 101 - What We Wish We Knew About Dating

Help!!!!! I’m Asian American, how do I navigate the dating world? My date just sent me on a scavenger hunt…what do I do? Honestly, I just want to “Netflix and Chill”, how do I approach that? If you were curious about these questions, then look no further! In this episode, Matthew and Elise tackle the answers to these questions and share some tips from a few listeners, too. Matthew’s queer dating started out with a BANG (*wink wink*). Elise was oblivious for a little TOO long (it’s ok she eventually caught up). We even share our craziest dating stories! Most importantly we talk about what we’ve learned along the way and how we’ve grown into who we are today.

EP 4: Is it Comedy or Is it Racist? How Viral Media Can Reinforce Asian Stereotypes

“EMOTIONAL DAMAGE!!!” – Did you read that with an accent?! Did you not? Don’t worry if you did! Haha, accents are prominently used and well practiced as comedic tools. But when does this cross the line from harmless comedy to blatant racism? In this episode, we tackle social media and comedy’s effects on Asian stereotypes. We explore our own biases as Asian Americans growing up in Asian communities, and how that informs our view of controversial viral comedians such as Uncle Roger aka Nigel Ng. Also, WE’RE BACK! We know we’ve been away for quite a while (a WHOLE year to be exact, smh), BUT @sassyasiantimes have returned and we’re here to stay. Thank you so much for tuning in, listening, and supporting us! See you in the next one!
