Episode 27: Be A Force with Brie Eley

Episode 27: Be A Force with Brie Eley

Actress and Content Creator Brie Eley joins host Samantha Rund this episode.
    We discuss:

    • Her Role in the Star Wars Universe
    • Why Embracing Change Can Sustain Our Careers
    • Inspiration from Classical Theatre
    • How Traveling Enhances the Artistic Process
    • Allowing History to Teach and Empower Us
    • Creating the Here & Ready Talent Database

Brie Eley is an actress and content creator from Sugar Land, Texas.

A theater nerd at heart, she trained at Marymount Manhattan College and the BADA Midsummer at Oxford University program.  Upon graduation, she apprenticed at Actors Theatre of Louisville before performing regionally at The Kennedy Center and across stages in New York and the northeast. Done with the snow and tiny rooms, Brie made her way to LA for sunshine and closet space! She landed in West Hollywood and has been enjoying her assigned parking ever since. She quickly landed on dramatic gems Grey’s Anatomy and Criminal Minds before shifting to more comedic work on camera in shows like Brooklyn 99, 2 Broke Girls and Champions. Her interest in digital sketches and branded series led to producing with AOL Studios and the creation of the all-female troupe 4Play Comedy LA.

She now spends her time appearing in a variety of commercials, independent film projects and on television. She continues to act on-stage at spaces like Skylight Theater, Comedy Central Stage and A Noise Within while flexing her comedy chops as a creator. Her film Password Deals, about an ambitious street hustler, advanced to the finals of the NBC Short Cuts Festival, and her short Acceptance, which she co-wrote, produced and acted in,was distributed on Viacom/BET and BET.com.

Brie's artivism led her to create Here and Ready, a talent database of Black Actresses. From the site you can search across a number of categories, filter parameters, view reels and contact actors directly. There's even an option to directly submit castings, and it's all free to access. Here and Ready also has an active private community group, with a combined access to more than 1100 actresses. Both efforts work to increase the visibility of Black Actresses, visibility of us within the entertainment industry and visibility for how we see and support each other.

There are so many untold stories that need to be shared, and she finds no greater joy than being a part of the collective voice. She’s recently had the immense pleasure of working with Dreamworks Animation and several video games where she cannot wait to be able to share the good news! She’s also been in several feature films including Universal’s American Reunion and on many tv shows including CBS’ NCIS and Showtime’s Kidding with the amazing Jim Carrey. Jennifer is also actively creating her own content and currently working on her own music. Episode 22: Life and the Circus with Joel Salom

Circus Extraordinaire Joel Salom joins Samantha Rund to discuss his experiences performing around the world.

    • Chuka Chuks percussion juggling balls
    •  Cultural Differences
    • Relaxed Concentration in Potentially Perilous Situations

It's a lively conversation as deep as it is entertaining.

“The irrepressible Joel Salom is an outstanding all-round comic, whether as a skill-fully
inept acrobat or artfully off-colour juggler. Popping ping pong balls out of his mouth
(with references to the whole digestive system), flinging clubs impossibly fast.. playing
electronic percussion with bounced balls and executing a hilarious reversal on the old
dropped-pants shtick. He’s also the genius behind the show’s other stand-up comic, a
blithely satiric little robot dog named Erik.” Robert Hurwitt, San Francisco Chronicle.

Both Joel and Erik worked with Circus Oz for two years, in Mexico, the USA (New York,
Pittsburgh, Arcata, Galveston), Hong Kong, Edinburgh and Australia. Joel played Ring
Master, graced the flying trapeze and was also a juggler, clown and acrobat.
Joel’s theatre show GADGETS with musicians Jim Dunlop and Marko Simec has toured
to over 60 theatres in Australia and won the 'Innovation Award' at the Drover Awards. Also it has been performed at the Keo Chang Festival of Theatre(South Korea),Berlin
