Episode 132 - Halfway Through 2023

This week Jason dives into the 2023 edition of The Game Awards, as he analyzes what happened at the show, and what needs to happen going forward.

This week, Jason speaks with Tony Arias and Abby Howard of Black Tabby Games about their new hit Slay The Princess! He then gives his thoughts on the Legend Of Zelda live-action film announced this week, before ending with predictions for the Game Awards nominee announcement coming next week.

This week, Jason is joined by Jeff Montegut, director of Extra Life for Children's Miracle Network Hospitals, to talk about this weekend's Extra Life 2023 Game Day events. After that, Jason offers a few holiday gift ideas for the geek culture enthusiast on your list, and then gives his thoughts on the "Is 2023 The Best Year In Video Games?" debate.

This week on the return of Cheesesteaks And Controllers, Jason sits down with Orange Cassidy, AEW International Champion, ahead of AEW Dynamite at the Liacouras Center on Temple University's campus. He then recounts his trip to Japan in August, before ending the show with two Pokemon Unite casters, Spragels and Zoinks, to talk about the competitive Unite scene.

IT'S EVO WEEK! Jason sits down with Evo general manager Rick "TheHadou" Thiher to talk about the show in two segments: one recorded before the Project L announcement, and one after! Jason then gives his hopes and dreams for this year's event.

This week, Jason speaks with The Verge's Ash Parrish about the troubles at The Overwatch League, including recent layoffs and a pending vote to continue the league. He then talks about the future in esports in general, and ends with a brief commentary on the importance of graphics in video games.

This week, Jason is joined by Digital Eclipse editorial director Chris Kohler to talk about The Making of Karateka, the upcoming interactive documentary which chronicles the development of a classic game from the mid-80s. Kohler speaks about the story behind the project, reveals a few interesting tidbits, and speaks about the importance of game preservation in today's industry.

This week, Jason sits down with James Deighan and Zack Manko of Mega Cat Studios ahead of their appearance at San Diego Comic-Con to talk all about WrestleQuest, which launches August 8!

Topics include Zack's burgeoning wrestling career, PAX East, the "wrestlfication" of the RPG, and more!

This week, Jason gives his thoughts on Capcom franchises the company should explore after comments made during a recent shareholder meeting. He then gives his thoughts on how the Mortal Kombat 1 roster might shake out, with tiers ranging from "definite" to "lol nah."
