    Episode 135: Short Circuit 2 (1988)

    en-usJuly 24, 2020

    About this Episode

A sequel that removes Guttenberg and Ally Sheedy (basically all the charm) so Doug and Jamie are stuck with Fischer Stevens and a robot devoid of humor and personality. Cynthia Gibb is given nothing to do but Doug and Jamie would watch a different film starring she and the cab driver, with whom she has the most chemistry. Fisher Stevens in brown face may strangely be one of the least offensive things about this movie. Just kidding, that's terrible even by 1988 standards. Join us as we continue through the Summer of Sequels with Short Circuit 2!

    Episode 235: 235: Tough Guys Don't Dance (1987)

On our episode, Doug tries to describe the sound of a penis flopping out of pants, Jamie describes this film through cake and sandwich metaphors (both of which make less sense than the film itself), and we struggle to come to terms with our feelings on this film. Set up for a seance with your driver, don't make your cancer-ridden elderly father do your dirty work, and join us as we examine one of the heads on the Mount Rushmore of bad movies with Tough Guys Don't Dance!

    Episode 234: 234: Rappin' (1985)

On our episode, Jamie assumes that this film is a pretty accurate representation of Pittsburgh gang life, Doug is befuddled by just how stupid our title character is, and we devolve into fits of laughter throughout as it's been quite a while since we've reviewed anything that rises to this level of bonkers on the podcast. Break out your 'Rasta Stash', never for get that hay is in fact for horses, and join us as we wander into a delightful world that we didn't know existed and discuss Rappin'!

    Episode 233: 233: Blood Simple (1984)

On our episode, Doug tries Googling 'Ceiling Fan Dream Interpretation', Jamie busts out a new character dubbed 'Film Critic Jamie', and we both agree that this film is nothing but a cautionary tale regarding the importance of communicating with your partner. Be sure your cowboy hat matches the rest of your getup, get your photo-doctorin' sharpies ready, and join us as we make light of Jamie's most depressing birthday pick ever and discuss Blood Simple!

    Episode 232: 232: Satisfaction (1988)

On our episode, Jamie reveals that her rock group would sing mostly candy-related tunes, Doug wonders if Debbie Harry just happened to wander onto set one afternoon as a big Family Ties fan, and we both agree that at this point in their careers Justine was out acting her brother and Billie was out Bette Midler-ing Seth Green. Lock your 'sex van', call next in that volleyball game, and join us as we review the holy grail of the podcast that is Satisfaction!

    Episode 231: 231: Beetlejuice (1988)

See, sometimes we cover a film that is both a good time AND a great movie...

On our episode, Doug takes a moment to give some advice to listeners who rent Airbnb's, Jamie accidentally pitches a podcast where she and Doug just watch Best of the Best every day and discuss it, and neither of us can think if the composer Danny Elfman and it was just too embarrassingly good to be cut out. Put on your best set of 'grandma drapes', tell your relative to stop sending pictures of your home to strangers, and join us as just keep pushing off Satisfaction by discussing the absolute delight that is Beetlejuice!

    Episode 230: 230: A Jetson Christmas Carol (1985)

    Episode 230: 230: A Jetson Christmas Carol (1985)

On our latest holiday episode, Doug has quite the 'hot take' on Buzzfeed articles about Star Trek predictions, Jamie imagines why she may have written the phrase 'edible aliens' in her notes, and we avoid even talking about this cartoon for about the first 20 minutes of the podcast. Get drunk with your robo-coworkers, repair that dog-shaped hole in the wall, and join us as we scrape the bottom on the animated holiday special barrel and discuss A Jetson Christmas Carol!

    Episode 229: 229: Bolero (1984)

On our latest episode, Jamie shuts the movie off after the second lengthy sex scene, Doug brings out ALL the accents, and we both rejoice in closing out Bo Derek-cember. Water down your honey, wear a cup while bullfighting (in fact, don't fight a bull at all), and join us as we try and figure out (for the last time) this nation's odd obsession with Bo Derek and discuss Bolero!

    Episode 228: 228: Ghosts Can't Do It (1989)

On our latest episode, Doug is floored when it's revealed that there are witches in this movie, Jamie wonders why Bo Derek is scream-delivering every line in the film, and we both hope that this is not an accurate depiction of the afterlife. Admire Hemingway (admire his writing, that is) get those suppositories ready, and join us as we fast forward to the final Bo Derek/John Derek collaboration and discuss Ghosts Can't Do It!

Episode 227: 227: Tarzan the Ape Man (1981)

Episode 227: 227: Tarzan the Ape Man (1981)

On our latest episode, Jamie's unsure if Bo Derek debases herself in this movie more or less than in Ghost's Can't Do It, Doug's pretty sure it was illegal (even in 1910) to kill a man and hang his decapitated head on your wall, and we both would have preferred to have watched a movie about Tarzan and Jane just hangin' with monkeys. Paint your entire body white, seductively eat a banana, and join us as we kick off Bo Derek-cember talking about Tarzan the Ape Man!

    Episode 226: 226: He-Man & She-Ra: A Christmas Special (1985)

Hello listeners! I know you're all excited about Bo Derek-cember but we figured we'd start releasing some of our Patreon content to the masses and what better way to start than with this gem of a Holiday Special we recorded back in 2017. You will get a new Animated Holiday Special at the end of the month but why not enjoy this delight before the difficult times (we're assuming) with the Bo Derek movies we've got coming up this month.
